Background / History

Ma Xiaotao is an Inner Court student whose martial soul has a defect that makes her prone to losing control. Dai Yueheng warns Huo Yuhao that she is a genuine Soul Emperor and that provoking her could lead to a lethal attack 26.

An intoxicated Inner Court teacher harasses her and is subsequently reassigned to teach freshmen. Rather than dismissing him, the academy retains him because of his long service and potential to become a Titled Douluo. His reassignment changes Freshman Class One’s teaching lineup 26.

Ma Xiaotao enjoys spectacle and attention. During the advancement assessment, she deliberately imitates a dangerous soul beast’s entrance and takes visible pleasure in the Outer Court students’ astonishment at her six soul rings 36.

Her evil-fire state is distinct from her normal behavior: she loses reason and basic fighting technique, attacking with uncontrolled ferocity. Outside that episode, she intervenes decisively against the assassins threatening Huo Yuhao 36 45.

• Huo Yuhao briefly blocks the referee with Mist Arena before allowing the intervention. Ma Xiaotao is restrained while still thrashing under the fire’s influence 37.
• The disturbance suspends the remaining assessments until the following day; Huo Yuhao receives full marks 37.

Assassination Attempt

• Ma Xiaotao arrives during the ambush on Huo Yuhao and drives back the Soul Saint with her flames 45.
