Background / History
Dai Huabin is Dai Hao’s second legitimate son and Dai Yueheng’s younger brother, born to the same mother, the Duchess. Huo Yuhao is his paternal half-brother. The Duchess favors Huabin’s advancement over Yueheng’s, although Yueheng cannot clearly explain her preference 4 17 23.
The Dai family’s ancestral rules make inheritance a competition between capable successors. Huabin and Yueheng therefore pursue the same position, while Huabin’s compatibility with Zhu Lu gives him a substantial advantage: he is the only member of their generation of the Dai family known to possess a Martial Soul Fusion Skill 18 25.
During their childhood, Huabin repeatedly called Huo Yuhao a “little bastard,” according to Yuhao’s recollection. After Yuhao spends years at Dai Hao’s military camp, Huabin no longer recognizes him, even when they meet at Shrek 17 24.
Personality
Huabin is proud, competitive, and sensitive to being overshadowed. He proposes fighting Huo Yuhao two-against-one with Zhu Lu, treats Yuhao’s superior cultivation as justification, and reacts angrily when both Yuhao and the referee reject his reasoning. After losing, he refuses to concede and attacks again despite his injuries 24 25.
His resentment persists beyond the assessment: he watches Yuhao’s award ceremony bitterly and envies the recognition Yuhao receives after fighting Ma Xiaotao. Nevertheless, his confidence remains intact; at rank thirty-seven, he regards the selection tournament as another opportunity to prove himself 26 37 50.
Huabin can also soften his behavior toward Zhu Lu. After sharply dismissing her explanation for their fusion problems, he squeezes her hand and reassures her that they should solve the problem together 37.
