Terrified screams tore through the night sky over Knockturn Alley, then swiftly fell silent as if devoured by some monster.
The little rats Charle had found earlier were now hanging upside down from ropes conjured by Transfiguration. Their wands and Magical Items had also been thoroughly stripped away by Charle.
Charle carried a bag enhanced with an Undetectable Extension Charm. Yet even with its greatly expanded interior, it was beginning to feel cramped, nearly filled with the spoils he had collected all the way through Knockturn Alley.
Fortunately, beyond this bar, the area belonging to Knockturn Alley was almost at its end.
Charle strolled onward until an old-fashioned shop appeared ahead, its sign reading Borgin and Burkes.
Narrowing his eyes slightly, Charle did not blast the door open with a High-Frequency Laser Curse as he had before. Instead, he stopped some distance away.
He still harbored some wariness toward this shop that had stood firm in Knockturn Alley for so long.
After Voldemort graduated from Hogwarts, he had rather worked in this shop than join the Ministry of Magic.
Though much of that was because Voldemort wanted to find unusual objects here to create Horcruxes, Voldemort was not someone who liked wasting time.
If he could not learn anything here, Voldemort could never have remained for long.
And even just after graduating from Hogwarts, Voldemort had already mastered such profound Dark Magic as creating Horcruxes. His strength had surpassed that of the vast majority of Hogwarts professors.
Yet even so, he had patiently remained at Borgin and Burkes for a long time.
Any place where he could learn something had to have deep waters.
What was more, in the original story, the Vanishing Cabinet—the key item in Dumbledore's assassination—had also appeared in this shop.
Its involvement in that matter, and the crucial role it had played, further proved that this shop was fundamentally different from the Black Wizards outside.
Before he possessed strength that guaranteed he would never fail, Charle had no plans to force his way into Borgin and Burkes.
Just as Charle stopped before Borgin and Burkes, a greasy voice drifted out from inside.
"Mr. Charle, you have made a wise choice."
"Believe me, if you force your way into Borgin and Burkes, you will pay a price beyond imagination."
"How about this? Let us keep the peace. Why not leave now?"
Charle raised an eyebrow.
He had not intended to storm the place, but now that he was here, was he supposed to leave empty-handed?
The treasures in Borgin and Burkes were far superior to the collections of those destitute Black Wizards!
He sneered.
"Keep the peace? Let's not beat around the bush. I, Charle, am here to rob you!"
The greasy voice inside clearly carried a trace of anger now.
"Rob me?"
"You can try!"
"I guarantee that walking into Borgin and Burkes will be the greatest regret of your life!"
A strange look appeared on Charle's face.
"Is that so?"
"Not necessarily."
"Who says robbing you means I have to go inside?"
Holding his Wand, Charle said calmly, "Mr. Borgin, do you believe I'll dump shit all over your storefront?"
Inside Borgin and Burkes, the greasy voice fell silent for a long time, followed by an indignant cry of disbelief.
"Charle, you're a fucking black-hearted hooligan!"
"You're shameless!"
Charle shrugged.
"Do I need to talk about morality when dealing with Black Wizards? Besides, I've never claimed to be some morally upright person."
As he spoke, Charle seemed to recall something. He rummaged through an Undetectable Extension pocket he carried with him and pulled out a magical camera.
He said excitedly, "Later, I'll record the whole process of dumping shit on your doorstep and send it to the Daily Prophet or The Quibbler or something..."
Inside the shop, Mr. Borgin truly panicked.
Dumping shit?
Even Black Wizards could not come up with something so vicious!
Though his shop was in Knockturn Alley, many prominent people came here to dispose of things they could not let others see.
If photographs of his shit-covered storefront got out, those wealthy aristocratic wizards probably would not even step on the paving stones outside his door.
This made Mr. Borgin spit out a venomous curse.
"I truly hope that hat at the Hogwarts Sorting Ceremony gets smart for once and sorts you into Azkaban! That is where you belong!"
But immediately afterward, Mr. Borgin still pinched his nose and compromised. He packed several treasures from the shop into a parcel and tossed it out.
Charle waved his Wand and opened the parcel. The most conspicuous item inside was a dried-up human hand.
It was a Dark Magic Item called the Hand of Glory. When a candle was lit in the Hand of Glory, it gave off light visible only to its holder, and was sufficient to illuminate most magical fog.
In the original story, this item had also played no small role when Malfoy led Death Eaters into Hogwarts to assassinate Dumbledore.
Charle had not expected Borgin to hand this over. It was quite an unexpected delight.
"This might serve as material for further deducing the Lumos spell."
"If I can integrate its trait of being visible only to the user into the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell, the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell might not become stronger, but its concealment would improve immensely. The enemy would not even know how they died!"
As for the other two items in the parcel, they were nowhere near as special as the Hand of Glory. They would most likely be directly absorbed as Deduction Points.
Still, since they had been placed alongside the Hand of Glory, the magic contained within them could not be insignificant. They should provide a rather substantial amount of Deduction Points.
Satisfaction appeared in Charle's eyes.
Compared to those impoverished Black Wizards, Borgin was clearly far wealthier.
Once his strength was sufficient, he would come visit again and see what else Borgin had in his collection.
As for now, tonight's haul was already more than plentiful enough.
Charle had seized over seventy Wands alone, along with dozens of miscellaneous Dark Magic Items. Among them were precious materials such as Unicorn Horn, Acromantula Venom, and Dragon Heart.
Not to mention a Metamorphmagus like Tonks.
Anticipation filled Charle's eyes.
"I gathered enough points for a Second Deduction of Animagus Transformation long ago."
"With this haul, plus Tonks as material, I might be able to carry out a third deduction of Animagus Transformation in one go!"
"Then, after the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell, this will be another spell of mine to undergo three deductions!"
Just thinking about the power of the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell—which had been deduced from the Lumos spell—
Charle did not believe that three deductions of Transfiguration in the direction of Animagus Transformation would be inferior to the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell!
Perhaps...
A Magical Animagus capable of transforming into Magical Creatures—a problem the Wizarding World had never solved—would be born tonight!
With such anticipation, Charle carried his spoils and hurried toward the entrance of Knockturn Alley.
