Background / History

Voldemort was formerly a Hogwarts student named Tom Riddle. Dumbledore regrets failing to guide him properly, allowing him to become a scourge upon the Wizarding World. During his school years, Voldemort created Horcruxes and committed multiple murders. 14 96

In the decade after leaving Hogwarts, he repeatedly performed dangerous Dark Transfigurations upon himself. These transformations gave him traits of magical creatures, changed his formerly handsome appearance into something inhuman, and greatly increased his magical power. His loss of a nose is described as an intentional cost of Dark Transfiguration rather than an accident. 26 39

By 1991, Voldemort exists as a weakened fragment of soul attached to Quirrell. He seeks the Philosopher’s Stone to rebuild his body, while retaining enough power to make Charle wary of a direct confrontation. 38 39
