Background / History
In her youth, Leng Yaozhu fell in love with Yun Ming, but he did not return her feelings and ultimately chose Ya Li. Although Leng believed she had moved on, meeting the couple again years later revives her sadness. She had once hoped for a quiet life with the person she loved and a child of her own 18 20.
As the Spirit Pagoda’s vice master, she combines administrative responsibilities with personal discipleship. She had already accepted Gu Yue before meeting Tang Wulin, but her workload prevents her from accompanying her students constantly 5 11 20.
Appearance
Leng Yaozhu is portrayed as an exceptionally beautiful woman whose bearing is heroic and authoritative rather than coy 2 10.
- Hair: Long, fiery-red or wine-red hair, worn loose over her shoulders 2 10.
- Eyes: Slightly upturned phoenix eyes with a sharp, proud gaze 2.
- Build: A graceful, curvaceous figure with a slender waist and long, fair legs 2.
- Clothing: Frequently wears a long red dress; arrives at Tang Wulin’s hospital room in high heels 2 16 17.
Personality
Leng Yaozhu is proud and outspoken, readily challenging Qiangu Dongfeng when he attempts to claim Tang Wulin as his disciple. Tang Wulin privately judges her to be upright despite her haughtiness, while Ya Li considers her less aggressively ambitious than Qiangu 2 21.
Her affection for her disciples can make her intensely protective and indulgent. She wants Tang Wulin to receive the best soul spirit and instruction available, and is prepared to spend money or owe favors to secure his opportunities. Nevertheless, she recognizes the danger of unlimited support and pushes him to learn a profession rather than become dependent on her 2 9.
Concern often appears as sternness or teasing. After Tang Wulin confronts a Six-Ring Evil Soul Master, she angrily asks how he would repay all her food and drink if something happened to him, but his apology quickly softens her anger. Beneath her commanding manner, she retains a longing for companionship; his promise to remain by her side moves her to tears 16 20.

Taking Tang Wulin as a Disciple
Leng meets six-year-old Tang Wulin after he accidentally collides with her in the Spirit Pagoda lobby. His sincere compliment dispels her irritation, and learning his identity convinces her to take him as a disciple. When Qiangu Dongfeng makes a competing offer, Tang chooses her, concealing his distrust of Qiangu behind childish praise of her beauty 2.
She immediately provides a thousand-year Violent Rabbit soul spirit and supervises its absorption. Tang’s first skill, Teleportation, makes her reconsider the potential of his obscure rabbit martial soul 2 3.
Generosity and Self-Reliance
At a welcome dinner for both disciples, Leng discovers Tang Wulin’s extraordinary appetite and protects him when a Red Jade Shrimp causes an energy overload. During his subsequent bloodline transformation, she chooses to stand guard rather than intrude on secrets he has entrusted to her 5 6.
She later claims she can no longer afford to feed him and tells him to learn a second profession. The following chapter clarifies that she can still support him financially: her real concern is that unrestricted resources will spoil him. When he chooses forging, she backs the decision and takes him to seek instruction from Zhen Hua, only to discover that his first forging demonstration has already won the Divine Craftsman’s interest 8 9 10.
Securing the Red Dragon Nine Forms
After visiting Tang Wulin in hospital, Leng helps him pursue further blood-essence training at Shrek Academy. She negotiates with Zhuo Shi and accepts Yun Ming’s proposed match against Na’er as the condition for access to the technique 16 17 18.
Tang’s victory vindicates her confidence. Watching Yun Ming, Ya Li, and Na’er leave together nevertheless reminds her of the family life she never had. Tang comforts her with a promise of lifelong companionship; she asks him to show his gratitude by learning the Red Dragon Nine Forms properly before returning to her duties 19 20.
Joint Youth Genius Class
Leng weighs Shrek’s proposal for a ten-year joint training class against the institutions’ ongoing rivalry. She counters Qiangu’s suspicions by pointing out that the Spirit Pagoda can also benefit from Shrek’s expertise. After approval, she informs Tang Wulin and Gu Yue that their first year will be at Shrek and tells them to prepare to leave in three days 21 22.
When Tang Wulin is later detained by the Federation, he asks Wu Changkong to contact Leng alongside Zhuo Shi and Zhen Hua. Her discipleship is one of the influential connections he invokes during questioning; her response is not shown in the supplied chapter 34.
