Aolai City.
After her rebirth, Na'er returned to the place where she had first met Tang Wulin.
This time, she would get a head start and make Tang Wulin fall in love with her.
"This should be the place, right?"
Na'er looked around, her memories especially vivid. This was where Tang Wulin had found her.
She thought carefully. What had she been doing back then?
Right, she had apparently been crouching on the ground.
So she found the same spot and crouched down, looking in the direction Tang Wulin would come from and eagerly awaiting his arrival.
She waited until the sun sank toward the west before she finally saw the figure she had longed for day and night.
Tang Wulin walked over with a smile on his face. She had no idea what he was thinking, but he seemed to be in a wonderful mood.
Just then, a few shifty-looking young men got there first and surrounded her. "Little girl, where are your parents?"
Na'er initially wanted to slap these men to death. Then she remembered that she barely had any strength right now. Besides, she needed to wait for Tang Wulin to play the hero and rescue the damsel so she could get into his home without a hitch.
She shook her head, putting on a pitiful look. "I don't have any family."
The men exchanged glances, greed gleaming in their eyes.
Na'er's silvery-white hair was extremely rare, and she was very cute as well, so they wanted to take her to the underground black market and sell her.
The young man leading them leaned closer and asked, "Little girl, are you hungry? How about coming with me for something tasty?"
Na'er shook her head and shouted toward Tang Wulin, "Help! I don't want to go with you!"
"Big brother over there, can you save me? They want to take me away, and I don't know them!"
Tang Wulin had already noticed what was happening. Seeing so many men bullying a little girl like Na'er, he strode over, furious beyond restraint.
"Stop!"
Tang Wulin came over and stood in front of Na'er.
Na'er hid behind Tang Wulin and said in a frail voice, "Big brother, save me."
"Where did this little brat come from? Stay out of this!"
The young man kicked Tang Wulin, knocking him and Na'er to the ground together.
Tang Wulin was remarkably sturdy and wasn't hurt at all by the fall.
He quickly scrambled up and shouted, "I won't let you hurt her!"
As he spoke, blue light shone from his right hand, and a strand of blue silver grass sprouted from his palm.
Seeing that Tang Wulin was a Soul Master, the young men froze for a moment.
Snatching an ordinary child was one thing, but Soul Masters were under official protection. If anything happened to one, the Federation wouldn't let it slide.
Besides, a family that could produce a Soul Master wouldn't be weak. If anything happened to him, they would be in serious trouble.
"What rotten luck."
Afraid of getting into trouble, the men quickly left.
"Wah..." Just then, Na'er suddenly began to cry.
Tang Wulin hurried over to comfort her. "Don't be scared. I'll protect you."
"Thank you, big brother."
Na'er gazed at him with wide, tear-filled eyes.
Tang Wulin felt his heart melt. The little girl before him was simply too adorable.
"Don't worry. The bad guys have been chased away. My name is Tang Wulin. What's yours?"
"My name is Na'er."
"Na'er. That's a lovely name. Where do you live? I'll take you home."
Na'er shook her head. "I don't have a home anymore."
Tang Wulin thought for a moment. "Then come to my house. My mom makes really delicious food."
With that, Tang Wulin took Na'er's hand and ran toward his home.
What he didn't see was the smile spreading across Na'er's face.
It felt wonderful to hold Tang Wulin's hand again.
Na'er looked at Tang Wulin's profile. His rosy cheeks were slightly flushed, and his big eyes and long eyelashes made him so lovely to look at.
Although Tang Wulin was very handsome once he grew up, she still liked him best as he was now.
Tang Wulin brought Na'er to his front door, knocked, and shouted, "Mom, I'm home! Open the door!"
"Honestly, why are you shouting so loudly? Don't disturb the neighbors."
The door opened, and Na'er saw another deeply familiar face.
Lang Yue, her adoptive mother.
Lang Yue took in Tang Wulin's grubby appearance. "How did you get yourself into this state? Were you fighting? And what's going on with this little girl?"
The moment Lang Yue saw Na'er, she felt an immediate warmth toward her, as though they already knew each other.
"Hello, Auntie. My name is Na'er. Big Brother Wulin saved me."
"Mom, we ran into some bad guys." Tang Wulin recounted what had happened on the way.
"It was so dangerous, and you still dared to rush in? Honestly, you..."
"Auntie, please don't scold him. He only did it to save me," Na'er explained on his behalf.
Lang Yue crouched down and stroked Na'er's hair.
"Your name is Na'er, isn't it, sweetheart? What a considerate child."
After hearing what had happened to Na'er, Lang Yue already felt terribly sorry for her. Seeing how considerate she was made her like the girl even more.
"Come inside. I'll give you a bath, and once you've changed, I'll make you both something tasty."
Lang Yue took both children straight into the bathroom, undressed them, and gave them a bath.
At the sight of the naked Tang Wulin, Na'er's cheeks reddened slightly. She covered her eyes with her hands, yet couldn't resist sneaking another look.
"Na'er, you're so pretty."
After their bath, Tang Wulin stared at Na'er without blinking.
When she had been all grubby, he hadn't been able to tell, but now that she was clean, he realized just how beautiful she was.
He didn't know why, but he simply liked being with Na'er.
"Do you really think I'm pretty?" Na'er asked.
Tang Wulin nodded. "Of course. You're the prettiest girl I've ever seen."
"Really? Then can I marry you when we grow up?"
"Yes, yes!" Tang Wulin hurriedly nodded in agreement.
"Then let's seal it with a high five. Neither of us can take it back, okay?"
"Okay."
Two tiny palms met.
Tang Wulin still didn't understand what this promise meant.
Lang Yue came out carrying the food and said with a smile, "You two little ones, do you even know what marriage is, making a promise like that?"
"Of course I do! Marriage means staying together forever, just like Mom and Dad," Tang Wulin said loudly.
Na'er nodded too. "Yes, staying together forever."
Lang Yue laughed, not taking the children's words to heart.
"All right, come and eat. Later, I'll make some inquiries and see if I can find your family."
Na'er lowered her head and ate, thinking, If she's looking for my family, there's probably only Gu Yue. But she's off being an empress in the Star Dou Great Forest right now.
It was just as well to let Lang Yue look into it. That way, she could adopt her. To live in the Federation, Na'er needed a legal identity.
"Na'er, try this. It's really good."
Tang Wulin picked up a piece of fried shrimp and placed it in Na'er's bowl.
"Thank you, Wulin." Na'er began eating with hearty bites.
"I want this one. Can you get it for me?"
"Sure."
Whatever Na'er wanted to eat, Tang Wulin placed it in her bowl, one thing after another.
Watching them, Lang Yue smiled.
It suddenly occurred to her that having a daughter-in-law like Na'er might not be a bad thing.
The children were still young, but a mother had to mend the roof before the rain came.
