Background / History
Welcoming Na’er
Lang Yue first meets Na’er when Tang Wulin brings her home after rescuing her from would-be abductors. She scolds Wulin for rushing into danger, but softens when Na’er defends him. Feeling an immediate familiarity and affection toward the girl, she welcomes her inside, bathes both children, and prepares food for them 1.
She laughs at the children’s promise to marry when they grow up, treating it as childhood talk. Nevertheless, watching Wulin attentively serve Na’er food leads her to consider that Na’er might make a good future daughter-in-law 1.
Adoption and Household Finances
After dinner, Lang Yue takes Na’er to the Administrator to search for her records. No information exists in the system, so she brings the girl home. At Wulin’s urging, she and Tang Ziran accept Na’er into the family. Because their home has only two rooms, Na’er shares Wulin’s room; Lang Yue provides a separate bed, considering the girl too precocious to let them sleep together 2.
Na’er initially helps Lang Yue with housework while Wulin attends school and Tang Ziran works. The additional household member increases the family’s financial burden, prompting Lang Yue to begin working outside the home as well 2.
The Spirit Pagoda Invitation
Upon learning that Na’er has awakened the Silver Dragon Spear with innate full soul power, Lang Yue argues that ordinary Red Mountain Academy cannot adequately teach such a gifted child. She favors the Spirit Pagoda’s stronger teachers and resources, while assuring Na’er that the family home will remain hers. When Na’er repeatedly refuses to leave Wulin, both parents stop pressing rather than force her 4.
The local Spirit Pagoda head, Qian Gu Liuguang, subsequently offers free tuition and accommodation, a monthly allowance of one thousand Federation Credits, and employment after graduation. Lang Yue is strongly tempted but again acknowledges Na’er’s unwillingness. When Na’er bluntly questions his qualifications as a teacher, Lang Yue apologizes on her behalf. She is relieved that he leaves without taking offense, knowing his influence could jeopardize the family’s ability to remain in Aolai City 4 5.
Personality
Lang Yue combines warmth with protective discipline. She worries about Wulin exposing himself to danger, yet readily cares for an unfamiliar child in need. Her affection for Na’er develops before discovering the girl’s exceptional talent, and she openly introduces herself to the Spirit Pagoda representative as Na’er’s mother 1 4.
She is practical about money, education, and social standing. She takes work to ease the family’s expenses and recognizes the advantages of the Spirit Pagoda’s offer. Although she hopes to persuade Na’er to accept it, she does not force the decision. Her hurried apology to Qian Gu Liuguang also reflects her concern about antagonizing a powerful local figure 2 4 5.
