Power Progression
Cultivation levels below belong to Tang Wulin; the hammer’s transformations are recorded alongside them.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Suppressed Clear Sky Hammer form | 1 | Tang San compresses the inheritance into an inconspicuous black hammer that restrains the Golden Dragon King’s strength. |
| Martial-soul awakening — level-five innate soul power | 3 | Manifests in six-year-old Tang Wulin’s right hand. Its exceptional weight and slight disturbance of the awakening array hint at its concealed nature. |
| First visible dark-gold markings | 10 | Faint markings appear during Wulin’s first forging test, as an internal warm current briefly eases his exhaustion. |
| Level-ten Soul Scholar | 13 | Wulin reaches the threshold but delays obtaining a Soul Spirit, saving for one suited to his hammer. |
| Three years of forging development | 14 | Repeated forging leaves the surface denser and its edges more distinct. Wulin’s handling becomes nearly instinctive. |
| First Soul Ring — One-Ring Soul Master | 20 | Little Jun Ant merges into the hammer, producing a white Soul Ring. The unusually compatible fusion reinforces weight, stability, pressure, and endurance. |
| First Soul Skill awakened | 21 | Hidden golden power links the ant and hammer more closely. A concentrated downward force manifests and cracks a floorboard. |
| Stable level eleven; beneficial mutation | 22 24 | After a painful internal transformation, the hammer’s markings become clearer and its structure feels harder and steadier. Mang Tian identifies its new tendency to “sink” as a beneficial mutation. |
| Thousand-Refined heavy silver integration | 31 | A Blood Sacrifice permanently merges Wulin’s first Thousand-Refined work into his martial soul, adding silver-gray tidal patterns and deeper-rooted weight. |
| Stacked hammer effect confirmed | 32 | Testing reveals that one strike can produce two additional, genuine layers of hammer force. The effect becomes an inseparable part of the martial soul. |
Background / History
Before Tang Wulin’s birth, the Golden Dragon King’s destructive power threatens his life. Tang San uses the parents’ martial-soul legacies as complementary restraints: the Blue Silver Emperor binds the dragon’s will, while the Clear Sky Hammer suppresses its physical strength. The hammer loses its recognizable grandeur, divine might, and imposing aura, becoming the child’s only outwardly manifest martial soul 1.
At his awakening, Wulin sees only an ordinary-looking black hammer and remains unaware of its origin. Its weight draws attention from the Spirit Transmitter, Tang Ziran, and later Lin Ximeng, but none identifies it as the Clear Sky Hammer 3 4 5.
During Wulin’s apprenticeship, Mang Tian names it the Star-Sinking Hammer after observing that its blows fall like sinking stars. Ordinary forging hammers feel less closely connected to Wulin, so Mang Tian eventually makes his own martial soul the primary hammer for his forging training 14.
Appearance
- Basic form: A small, pitch-black hammer with a short, thick, blunt body; easily mistaken for an ordinary iron tool 3 4.
- Tempered surface: Years of forging make its black exterior denser and its edges more distinct without adding conspicuous ornamentation 14.
- Dark-gold markings: Initially fleeting beneath furnace light, these become clearer after Soul Spirit fusion and Wulin’s subsequent transformation 10 14 22.
- Silver-gray tidal patterns: Buried between the dark-gold markings after the heavy-silver Blood Sacrifice; visible only as subtle glimmers rather than a bright surface decoration 31 32.
- Manifestation: Usually appears silently in Wulin’s palm through a flash of dark light and withdraws into him at his command 3 19.
Abilities & Skills
Golden Dragon King Suppression
- Restrains the dragon’s physical power, working alongside the Blue Silver Emperor seal that binds its rage 1.
- During Soul Spirit fusion, its shadow joins the root patterns and deeper seals in pressing the stirring dragon power back down 20.
- Its outwardly diminished form conceals a supreme tool martial soul whose true form has not yet been revealed 1.
Exceptional Weight and Downward Pressure
- Possesses far greater weight than its small appearance suggests; after fusion, its heaviness develops a persistent downward pull 3 23 24.
- Makes a calibrated fifty-kilogram testing hammer feel comparatively light to Wulin. Its own numerical weight is not established 26.
- In Mang Tian’s initial examination, the Four-Ring Soul Ancestor activates Fortitude before he can hold it steadily 23.
- Favors direct, committed strikes rather than elaborate or evasive handling, according to Mang Tian 24.
Thousand-Weight Fall
Wulin’s first Soul Skill concentrates pressure into the hammer’s downward impact rather than simply strengthening his arms 23.
- Focused compression: Drives a deep, tightly compacted impression into heavy iron with little outward cracking 23.
- Breaking an opponent’s balance: Overwhelms Wan Yunchao’s saber block, then drags the weapon downward to disrupt his footing 26.
- Ground-based pressure: A downward strike shakes the ground and briefly slows Xie Xie, creating an opening for a low sweep 48.
- Limit: The pressure does not guarantee a hit; Xie Xie evades its follow-ups and later uses afterimages to draw out the ground strike 48 49.
Stacked Hammer Effect
The Thousand-Refined heavy silver’s tidal property allows a strike’s momentum to continue through two additional layers of real force 32.
- Produces two rapid afterimages and three impacts on the same point, rather than illusory extra blows 32.
- Mang Tian describes the second layer as roughly 70% of the first strike’s force and the third as “another fifty percent” 32.
- Is permanently integrated into the martial soul, not attached to a removable external hammer 32.
- Initially emerges naturally. Full mastery requires freely releasing or restraining the extra layers and deliberately changing their landing points 32.
- Is used in the dormitory fight to knock aside Xie Xie’s dagger when he attempts to disarm Wulin 37.
Forging Attunement
- Feels like an extension of Wulin’s own body rather than an external tool, enabling unusually close coordination between strength, touch, rhythm, and metal recoil 14.
- Helps him probe metal through light test strikes before applying heavier force 28.
- Supports precise hand-forging of ten mecha ankle joints whose consistency earns Mang Tian’s praise 14.
- Serves as the hammer for Wulin’s first successful Thousand Refinement of heavy silver 29 31.
- Increased power still demands control: after Soul Spirit fusion, Wulin’s poorly regulated strength contributes to mistakes in his forging work 26.
Relationships
- Tang Wulin — Bearer and wielder. Their bond deepens through years of forging; he experiences the hammer as something akin to his own bones 14 28 31.
- Tang San — Reshapes the Clear Sky Hammer inheritance into its suppressed form to save his unborn son 1.
- Mang Tian — Names the hammer, develops Wulin’s handling, identifies its beneficial mutation, and guides the heavy-silver integration 14 24 31.
- Golden Jun — Compatible Soul Spirit that merges into the hammer and later rests on its head within Wulin’s consciousness 20 21 24.
