As he watched the six vehicles gradually disappear down the road, the smile slowly faded from Yin Ganlong's face.

"Brother Long, there's something I don't understand." The man holding the binoculars looked puzzled.

"What is it?"

"Brother Long, you know the going rates. That Civet Beast was worth two jeeps at most. But not only did you agree to give him three vehicles, you threw in a whole crate of grenades for free. Do you really think he'll bring us more Mutant Beasts?"

"Why wouldn't he?"

"Come on, Brother Long. Why can't you see it?" He lowered his binoculars and gestured animatedly as he explained, "Look how young that kid is. He's twenty at most. With his abilities and equipment, killing a Civet Beast was like winning the lottery. How could he possibly—"

"No, I believe in him." Before the man could finish, Yin Ganlong raised a hand to cut him off. "Because, just like Big Brother, he's a... Gene Warrior!"

By the time the convoy returned to the Residential Camp, night had quietly fallen.

Quite a few zombies had gathered outside the Residential Camp again. In the faint light, their hideous faces were visible. Many were missing limbs, and some even had their intestines dragging along the ground.

As usual, Liu Feng took Han Bing up to the platform before going to bed.

Looking at the zombies wandering around the gate, Liu Feng summoned his LV3 Iron-toothed Insects. In the blink of an eye, the zombies had all been reduced to pools of foul-smelling blood.

Liu Feng recalled all his Iron-toothed Insects and turned to head back to bed, satisfied. Just then, Han Bing suddenly froze beside him, staring fixedly at the pitch-black end of the street.

Han Bing's strange behavior caught Liu Feng's attention. He patted Han Bing on the shoulder and asked in puzzlement, "Han Bing, what are you staring at so intently?"

"Huh?" Han Bing paused, then turned to Liu Feng with a confused expression. "Brother Feng, do you see a girl in a white-and-blue school uniform at the end of the street?"

"A girl?" Liu Feng's heart gave an involuntary jolt. He immediately looked in the direction Han Bing was pointing.

At the pitch-black end of the street, there was nothing alive, only the slowly moving silhouettes of zombies.

Liu Feng's eyes widened as he stared at Han Bing in shock.

"Han Bing, are you getting lonely? It's the middle of the night, and there are zombies everywhere. What girl in a white-and-blue school uniform?"

Han Bing hesitated, still pointing toward the dark end of the street, then looked anxiously at Liu Feng. "Brother Feng, why won't you believe me? There really is a girl standing there. Look, she's even smiling at me."

Seeing the lovestruck look on Han Bing's face, Liu Feng realized something was wrong.

There was no one on that street except zombies. Even if there really were a survivor, how could zombies that had been starving for so long simply stand by? They would have pounced long ago.

While Liu Feng was still puzzling over it, Han Bing suddenly did something startling. He grabbed the platform railing and made to vault straight over it.

At the sight, Liu Feng reacted in a flash, catching his wrist. With a sharp yank, he pulled Han Bing down onto the platform.

"Han Bing, have you fucking lost your mind? If you jump down like that, even if the zombies don't tear you apart and eat you, the fall will nearly kill you!"

But Han Bing acted as though he hadn't heard Liu Feng's shout, desperately trying to break free of his grip. Fortunately, several men on duty arrived in time and pinned Han Bing down.

"Let go of me! I have to save her!"

"She's standing right there! There are so many zombies around her! She's in danger, and she's waiting for me to save her!"

"Let me go! I can't let her get hurt!"

As Han Bing continued struggling, Liu Feng happened to glance at his eyes.

The keen intelligence they had once held was gone. Now they were empty and vacant. The sight sent a sudden shock through Liu Feng.

There was definitely something wrong at the end of that street!

When Liu Feng looked back toward the pitch-black end of the street, a girl in a white-and-blue school uniform suddenly appeared in his vision. Her hair was tied in twin ponytails, and she carried a schoolbag, staring at Liu Feng with an innocent, unceasing smile.

What...

For a moment, Liu Feng was utterly bewildered.

Han Bing was right. There really was a girl in a white-and-blue school uniform. But something about her smile felt off to Liu Feng. It looked strange.

There was no way a survivor could appear on a street packed with zombies, let alone a schoolgirl so young!

No, I must be seeing things!

With that thought, Liu Feng secretly placed a hand on his thigh and pinched it as hard as he could.

"Fuck, that hurts!"

Pain flooded Liu Feng's mind in an instant, clearing his head somewhat.

Han Bing was still struggling on the platform, but several men kept him firmly pinned to the ground.

Liu Feng frowned slightly and turned his gaze back to the street outside the Residential Camp. In the faint light, he saw something utterly startling.

On the street just outside the Residential Camp's gate stood a little zombie less than a meter tall. Its eyes shone with an eerie blue light, and its mouth kept moving as though it were muttering something.

This was the first time Liu Feng had ever seen a zombie that could speak, and such a small one at that.

Whoosh!

As a dark shadow flashed across its body, the corners of the little zombie's mouth curled upward unnaturally, its eyes still glowing blue. The eerie sight made Liu Feng's hair stand on end, and a chill shot up his back.

Thud!

Following a loud crash, one of the men who had been watching from the side leaped off the platform, just as Han Bing had tried to do.

The instant he landed, a horde of zombies swarmed him. Amid agonized screams, the man met his end.

Everyone nearby sucked in a sharp breath at the sight.

Liu Feng's expression darkened abruptly, and anger blazed in his eyes.

"Fatty, sound the alarm! And go tell everyone right now: no matter what happens, don't look the zombies directly in the eyes, or you'll be dead!"

Watching Fatty hurry away, Liu Feng turned his gaze back to the street outside the gate. The little zombie's eyes still shone with that eerie blue light, but Liu Feng only glanced at it briefly before quickly lowering his head.

Liu Feng had guessed correctly. This zombie really could control people's minds!
