Power Progression
The insects’ own level is separate from Liu Feng’s summoning level; both can affect their deployment capacity 2 22.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Insect LV1; host summoning LV1 | 1 | Initially limited to consuming flesh. Liu Feng can summon 100 per minute, up to 10,000. |
| Insect LV2 | 2 | Upgraded for 500 EXP. Their teeth become sharper, and the swarm can consume zombies completely, including bones. |
| Host summoning LV2 | 2 | The Iron-toothed Insect limit rises from 10,000 to 100,000; the summoning interval shortens from one minute to thirty seconds. |
| Insect LV3 | 22 | Upgraded for 1,500 EXP after the Civet Beast hunt. Summonable quantity doubles to 200,000. |
| Insect LV5 | 31 34 | Liu Feng spends 4,500 EXP to raise them directly from LV3 to LV5. He subsequently deploys nearly 400,000 at the Residential Camp. |
| Insect LV10 | 40 | Experience from several days of zombie-clearing operations brings them to the stated maximum level. They become fist-sized, devour zombies faster, and number 900,000. |
Background / History
Iron-toothed Insects are the first available swarm when the Doomsday Insect Ancestor System binds to Liu Feng in Apocalypse Calendar Year 139. The system identifies them as its lowest-tier swarm, preceding Parasitic Insects and Exploding Insects 1.
Liu Feng initially summons one hundred to test their strength. They strip a zombie to its skeleton within seconds, becoming his first reliable defense in the ruined city. Despite unlocking more specialized creatures, he still considers Iron-toothed Insects the backbone of his combat forces when upgrading them to LV3 1 22.
Appearance
- Initial size: Approximately the size of a fingernail 1.
- Color: Silver across the entire body 1.
- Head: Bullet-shaped, with two rows of extremely sharp teeth 1.
- Wings: A pair on the back; later described as translucent 1 10.
- LV2 change: Little visible alteration beyond sharper teeth 2.
- LV10 change: Each insect grows to roughly the size of a fist 40.
- Swarm formations: Dense groups resemble silver fabric, nets, clouds, or tornadoes 1 2 40 44.
Abilities & Skills
Devouring
Their primary weapon is their teeth. Feeding capability improves with insect level, progressing from stripping flesh to consuming entire zombies 1 2.
- LV1: Leaves a bare skeleton after consuming a zombie’s flesh 1.
- LV2: Devours flesh and bones without leaving remains; still cannot chew through steel 2 18.
- LV3: Dispatches ordinary zombies easily and can gnaw through a speed-type mutant zombie’s arm 28 29.
- LV10: Consumes zombies more quickly and kills a breeding-type Iron Cockroach Beast in less than a minute 40 50.
- Material limit: Even 100,000 LV10 insects fail against the Laboratory Building’s alloy door. Their teeth strike the surface, and the insects fall dead 49.
Telepathic Control
Liu Feng commands the swarm through thought. His connection allows coordinated attacks, recalls, and changes of formation; the insects are explicitly described as incapable of betraying him 1 14.
- Follow directional commands and concentrate on selected targets 1 44.
- Form shields, nets, and layered platforms 2 20 49.
- Initial range limit: Flying more than one kilometer from Liu Feng breaks the connection 1.
Defensive Formations
The swarm packs together into substantial silver barriers, sacrificing insects to absorb attacks 13 20.
- Stops Yu Guangqi’s bullet before it reaches Han Bing 13.
- Blocks the Civet Beast’s claw strike, creating an opening for Ma Hou to shoot; the impact dents the shield and kills many insects 20.
- Shields Little Knife from the speed-type mutant zombie 30.
- Limit: Zerui breaks through thick insect barriers with his attacks, leaving large numbers of insect corpses behind 47.
Scouting and Mobility
- Scouting: Searches the overgrown construction site for routes and signs of the hidden mutant beast 19.
- Platforms: Forms successive armored platforms that Liu Feng uses to reach Little Knife’s floor inside the Laboratory Building 49.
- Utility work: Shreds cloth coverings to expose the laboratory’s walls and markings 49.
Combined-Swarm Tactics
Iron-toothed Insects provide cover and distraction while other swarms deliver specialized attacks 14 21 25.
- Conceals nearly one hundred Exploding Insects behind a silver net during the assault on White City Camp No. 28 14.
- Occupies the Civet Beast long enough for Exploding Insects to reach it 21.
- Finishes the mind-control mutant zombie after parasitized ordinary zombies immobilize her 25.
- Clears zombies around Little Knife while she fights inside the horde 35.
Summoning and Attrition
- The initial upgrade menu states that upgrades increase attack power by ten percent and lists LV10 as the maximum 1.
- Larger swarms eliminate targets faster and suffer proportionally fewer losses 1.
- Liu Feng loses more than one thousand of his first three thousand insects while clearing the surrounding kilometer 1.
- Repeated attacks against the Zombie Commander’s replenishing bodyguard cost more than half of a 400,000-insect army without breaking through 36.
- During the failed alloy-door assault, their cooldown extends to five minutes, preventing immediate reinforcement 49.
Relationships
- Liu Feng — Summoner and controller. He directs their actions telepathically and spends experience to strengthen them 1 22 31 40.
- Han Bing — Protected ally. An insect shield saves him from Yu Guangqi’s gunshot 13.
- Little Knife — Frequent combat partner and beneficiary of their protection. They free her from a mutant zombie’s grip and clear enemies around her during the camp defense 29 30 35.
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Early survival: Clears a zombie-infested building and destroys the horde Han Bing’s group lures toward Liu Feng, supplying experience for his first summoning-level advancement 2.
- Territorial expansion: Escorts the convoy to Long Tai’s stronghold and later compels Uncle Wang’s camp to surrender through a display of nearly 100,000 insects 5 12.
- Long Tai’s ambush: Nearly 100,000 insects engulf him immediately after he draws a concealed pistol at Liu Feng’s back 17.
- Civet Beast hunt: Holds the beast in place for explosives, then overwhelms it after it is wounded. Liu Feng delivers the final rifle shots 21 22.
- A58 conflict: Consumes Long Si and later kills Zerui after Liu Feng’s other swarms neutralize him 44 47.
- Laboratory trap: Fails to breach the alloy entrance but helps Liu Feng reach the controls, consumes the breeding female, and kills newly emerging Iron Cockroach Beasts before they can reach the group 49 50.
