After getting out of bed, Liu Feng followed his plan and did fifty push-ups and a hundred squats.
Ever since his duel with Long Tai, Liu Feng had understood the importance of physical fitness. Although he now had the nearly invincible Insect Ancestor Summoning System, he could not pin all his hopes on it.
In the Apocalypse World, everything could change in an instant. No one could be sure what would happen next. Constantly improving his own strength was the surest way to survive.
"Whew..."
By the time he finished the seemingly simple workout, Liu Feng's back was soaked with sweat. Ever since starting college, he had spent his days in his dorm playing games and reading novels. His fitness was nowhere near what it had been in high school.
Still, it was not too late to start exercising. He was young, after all.
Just as Liu Feng changed into a set of lightweight clothes, hurried footsteps sounded outside his room.
Bang, bang, bang!
Liu Feng did not even have to think to know it was Han Bing.
"Come in. The door's unlocked!"
Han Bing made himself at home and pushed the door open. Seeing Liu Feng still drying his wet hair with a towel, he flashed a knowing smile.
"What is it? Did something else happen? You're here awfully early." Liu Feng sat down in a chair and looked at Han Bing in confusion.
"Feng, how do you always know everything?" Han Bing stared at him in surprise.
Liu Feng shook his head helplessly, set the wet towel on the table, and gave Han Bing an impatient look. "Spit it out already!"
Han Bing chuckled and placed a small slip of paper on Liu Feng's table.
"Feng, this came by carrier pigeon on the platform this morning."
"A carrier pigeon?"
Liu Feng was genuinely taken aback. He had not expected such an ancient means of communication to survive in the apocalypse. On second thought, though, it made perfect sense.
When the Zombie Virus struck, the world had descended into utter chaos. Some weaker nations had even been wiped from human history, let alone their communications networks.
Perhaps carrier pigeons were now the best way to send messages.
With that thought, Liu Feng unfolded the slip of paper on the table.
"A Zombie Tide is approaching. The community camp is surrounded. Requesting reinforcements! —Wang Defa."
The message was short, but every word carried weight. Reading it, Liu Feng felt an uncontrollable jolt of alarm. His expression darkened at once, and he clenched the paper tightly.
"Brother Feng, what happened?" Han Bing had noticed the change in Liu Feng's expression too.
Instead of explaining, Liu Feng handed him the paper, which he had already crushed into a ball.
"Brother Feng, this..." Han Bing's eyes widened in horror. "Uncle Wang is east of us, so this Zombie Tide must be coming from the east. That means..."
Hearing the implication in Han Bing's words, Liu Feng fixed him with a solemn look. "What? Is there something different about this Zombie Tide?"
Han Bing swallowed nervously before speaking in a low voice. "Feng, before the Zombie Virus spread, there was a city of nearly ten million people east of our camp. The Zombie Tide Uncle Wang mentioned probably came from that city. So..."
At this news, Liu Feng's brow furrowed so deeply that the crease between his eyebrows looked like an ominous hoofprint.
"If that's true, we're in serious trouble."
"Feng, don't panic. I'll tell the guys to double the thickness of our perimeter walls right away. If we're lucky, we should be able to survive this..."
Before Han Bing could finish, Liu Feng raised a hand and cut him off.
"Han Bing, we accepted Uncle Wang's supplies. We can't just stand by and do nothing!"
Han Bing's face flushed with anxiety at those words, and beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.
"Feng, at a time like this, how can we worry about all that? With a Zombie Tide coming, we can barely save ourselves!"
As though he had not heard Han Bing at all, Liu Feng maintained a deadly serious expression. He slammed a hand on the table and spoke again. "Han Bing, find five or six guys who can shoot straight. I'll take them to Uncle Wang's camp."
"Feng, I'm really not joking about this..."
"Han Bing, listen to me." Liu Feng continued as he got dressed. "Send three more teams to the other three community camps. Tell them to pack up and gather here immediately! And don't let the guys staying in our residential complex sit idle. Make sure they reinforce the walls!"
Han Bing had wanted to argue further, but seeing Liu Feng's stubborn expression, he could only shake his head helplessly.
"Understood, Feng. I'll get it done!"
Two minutes later, an alarm rang throughout the Residential Camp. The entire complex was instantly gripped by tension.
Liu Feng went downstairs and nodded in satisfaction at the capable men Han Bing had selected.
"Guys, grab whatever keeps you alive. We're heading out now!"
Perhaps because of the urgency, the journey that normally took half an hour took only a little over ten minutes this time, and they arrived near the community camp.
The jeep stopped on a rise. Liu Feng leaned his head out of the window and frowned slightly as he surveyed the nearby community camp.
"Feng, this situation... doesn't look good!"
The fat man swallowed, panic churning inside him.
Around Wang Defa's community camp, zombies were packed in layer upon layer, forming a ring nearly a dozen meters deep. Along the road stretching east, the Zombie Tide continued as far as the eye could see. Like an overwhelming flood, they advanced without pause.
On the community camp's platform, the nearly middle-aged Wang Defa was leading the men of his community in a final struggle against the zombies.
They were clearly exhausted. Even their ammunition had been depleted, leaving them with nothing but blades, spears, swords, and halberds.
Against the enormous Zombie Tide, however, their resistance seemed utterly powerless.
"Fatty, I'll find a way to lure the zombies away from the entrance to Wang Defa's camp. You drive the jeep in and make sure you get every last one of them out!"
At those words, the fat man's eyes went wide, his expression making his disbelief unmistakable.
"Feng, you're kidding, right? There are so many zombies. How are you going to lure them away?"
Liu Feng frowned slightly, a trace of impatience crossing his face as he looked coldly at him. "Just do what I said. Don't worry about me!"
Under Liu Feng's piercing, icy gaze, the fat man gave an involuntary shudder.
"Understood, Feng!"
