And things went just as Xiao Ran had expected. Even if the other side was laying a trap, they would have to concede a win or two first to make him lower his guard. As long as the first pair to take the field wasn't completely hopeless, winning shouldn't be difficult.
Togetic and Raichu's opening teamwork easily secured the first match. Their opponents then switched Pokémon and fought hard to take down Wang Yunshu's Togetic, only for Raichu to knock out both of theirs in exchange. When their third Pokémon took the field, they only managed to take down one Pokémon from each of the two Trainers.
That was as far as their winning streak went, however. In the second round, Jane Becken, who had previously battled Xiao Ran, took the field again alongside an unfamiliar boy. The two barely exerted themselves before defeating Wang Yunshu and Cheng Xuewen, sending them off the field.
Not only that, but although Jane Becken had lost to Xiao Ran, she was still extremely strong. The pair stayed on the field and defeated two successive rounds of Chinese competitors. Only when the fourth-round competitors took the field did they finally lose because their Pokémon had run out of stamina.
Even so, theirs was an honorable defeat. After all, the two of them had beaten nearly six Chinese Pokémon Trainers.
"Isn't that a bit ridiculous? When I saw Xiao Ran wipe the floor with Jane Becken earlier, I thought she was only average!" a student in the stands exclaimed.
He wasn't the only one. Many others felt the same way. Xiao Ran really hadn't had much trouble defeating Jane earlier, but her strength turned out to be far beyond their expectations.
The pair had beaten four of their competitors head-on, along with Wang Yunshu and
