Ch. 181Memory fragments (part two) (3k)
Key plot points
- Lin Feng travels to Fukou and uses Li Family memory fragments to pass the time. The memories reveal that Patriarch Li Junsheng was the family’s true villain.
- One fragment shows Li Jianyuan hiring the Seventh Master, a hereditary executioner and skilled torturer, for a secret job. The Seventh Master is cautious, but accepts the work.
- Li Junsheng later forces the Seventh Master to interrogate a sinister practitioner by threatening his family. His men have already injured the Seventh Master’s wife and daughter-in-law, and he threatens to mutilate the grandson if the Seventh Master refuses.
- Other fragments show the Li Family’s destruction: its members are sacrificed in a boiling pool at the Ancestral Hall, while Junsheng’s corpse lies nearby after his suicide.
- In another memory, Junsheng gathers family elders to witness a ritual involving folk practitioners, a strange book, and the Great Golden Light Mantra. When a Corpse Curtain appears, he orders the practitioners and clan members killed and uses their blood and personal details to mark what appears to be a Book of Life and Death. Lin Feng reaches Fukou as the memory ends.
Character developments and interactions
- Lin Feng learns more about the scale of Junsheng’s cruelty and the family’s grisly fate. The visions unsettle him, though he continues searching the fragments for useful information.
- Li Junsheng emerges as cold, calculating, and willing to sacrifice both outsiders and his own relatives to pursue his aims. He speaks gently even while threatening the Seventh Master and directing mass killings.
- The Seventh Master is shown as wary and experienced, but his family’s captivity breaks his resistance and forces him to comply.
- Li Jianyuan acts as the intermediary who recruits the Seventh Master on Junsheng’s behalf.
