| Name | Mind Fog |
| Original Name | 心灵迷雾 |
| Alias(es) | “Mist” and “Eerie Mist”—Night Patrol Bureau names for Li Feng’s detached fog, mistakenly identified as an independent anomaly 18 37. |
| Nature | An awakened ability originating from Li Feng’s mind and soul; its fog-like appearance is not its true nature 3 10 26. |
| Affiliation | Li Feng, an investigator in Yuanyang City’s Investigation Department 1 44. |
| Role | Concealment, perception disruption, energy absorption and refinement, supernatural control, and cultivation support 1 3 13 14. |
| Classification | Its detached manifestation is initially classified by the Night Patrol Bureau as a low-danger anomaly; this does not establish the ability’s actual upper limit 18. |
| Status | Remains under Li Feng’s control; reaches a forty-meter radius with a four-kilometer control range 48. |
| First Appearance | Awakens during Li Feng’s first encounter with the Wedding-Dress Bride 1. |
Power Progression
- Mind Fog has no documented named cultivation realms. Its progression is recorded through increased size, range, strength, and newly demonstrated functions.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Awakening; approximately one-centimeter thickness | 1 | Extreme fear awakens the ability. Concealing Li Feng’s life aura prevents the Wedding-Dress Bride from locating him. |
| Hallucination absorption and energy purification | 3 | Devours cultivation-induced visions and murmurs, growing slightly stronger. Refines gathered energy before feeding it into Li Feng’s visualization. |
| More than two-centimeter thickness; improved shaping | 4 | Growth through visualization allows Li Feng to form a basketball-sized ball and a ribbon more than two meters long. |
| Approximately three to six-centimeter thickness | 4 | Contact with the Bride doubles the fog’s thickness, revealing that supernatural power can nourish it. |
| Radius exceeding one meter | 5 | Prolonged absorption of the Bride’s power greatly increases its volume and concealment. It still passes through physical objects without moving them. |
| One-meter radius; finer control | 5 | Supplying energy for perfected Humanity Visualization slightly reduces its radius but makes control more effortless. |
| Direct body-tempering application | 6 | Mixed with spiritual energy, the fog tempers Li Feng’s skin and consumes hallucination-producing power before it enters his body. |
| First physical interaction | 10 | Consumes the Bride’s defeated manifestation and essence. A condensed fog rope briefly lifts a stool before collapsing. |
| Ghost Servant creation | 13 | Corrodes and completely controls the Delivery Ghost, establishing a new use beyond draining energy. |
| Remote sensing and object manipulation | 14 | Feeding on the Delivery Ghost’s power strengthens Li Feng’s mind and mind space. Dispersed fog senses its surroundings; condensed fog manipulates objects remotely. |
| Recovery after major damage | 17 18 | Tian Yue destroys roughly one-third of the fog. Visualization restores it through absorption of world spiritual force. |
| Second Ghost Servant integrated | 19 | Converts the black-cat ghost into a servant. Its contribution modestly strengthens cultivation and stabilizes Li Feng’s mind-fog space. |
| Stronger fog ropes | 20 | Further cultivation expands the fog and allows its ropes to lift heavier objects. |
| Thirteen-meter radius; 1,300-meter control range | 24 26 | Absorption and control of the Weird Mirror produce substantial growth across Li Feng’s abilities. |
| Demonic-power absorption confirmed | 27 | Devours the Horned Demon’s power and most of its bloody mist, though the Ancestor’s retaliatory energy breaks through part of the fog. |
| Fifteen-meter radius | 28 | Absorbs yin and demonic energy leaking from a dimensional rift, then restrains and devours emerging weak ghosts. |
| Twenty-meter radius; captured Ghost Eye power | 32 33 | Corrodes the implanted Ghost Eye and acquires power that Li Feng can redistribute to Chief and the Weird Mirror. |
| Greater durability; control beyond 2,700 meters | 34 | Tian Yue’s crane-feather attack now destroys only a small portion, which is quickly replenished. The fog also proves capable of draining a human practitioner’s power. |
| Filtering confirmed; slight stabilization | 35 | Retains foreign power attributes while returning pure energy to Li Feng. The newly completed bathroom in his mind space slightly moderates its chaotic condition. |
| Thirty-one-meter radius; three-kilometer control range | 44 | Energy absorbed from an advanced-danger demon helps complete Room 1502’s visualization and expands the fog. |
| Further growth through the skin’s intruder | 45 46 | Consumes the eerie presence escaping from the Weird Human Skin, strengthening itself and helping Li Feng secure control of the skin. |
| Use through Weird Painted Skin | 47 | Li Feng’s remote skin body can manifest Mind Fog, hunt supernatural beings, and send absorbed power back into his mind space. |
| Forty-meter radius; four-kilometer control range | 48 | A successful night hunt supplies nearly twice the energy gained from the Bride. Room 1502 fully solidifies alongside the fog’s expansion. |
Background / History
Mind Fog awakens shortly after Li Feng transmigrates, when terror of the Wedding-Dress Bride reaches a breaking point. Its first use is instinctive: the power flows from his mind, surrounds his body, and hides the life aura the Bride follows. Li Feng later concludes that the awakening probably has little connection to his body’s former owner 1.
Its apparent purpose changes as Li Feng experiments. Cultivation reveals that it can devour hallucinations and purify energy; renewed encounters with the Bride reveal that hostile supernatural power can fuel its growth. These discoveries make it central to his continued practice of human-based cultivation methods 3 4 6 12.
The Night Patrol Bureau mistakes detached fog for an anomaly after Tian Yue attacks it on Xinsu Street. Following its stronger appearance during the Butcher battle, officials speculate that the “Eerie Mist” and Butcher may share a dimension or herald an eerie forbidden ground. They do not identify Li Feng as its source 18 37.
Appearance
- External form: Gray mist ranging from a thin, nearly transparent covering to a dense cloud that completely obscures Li Feng 1 5.
- Shaped forms: Can become balls, ribbons, ropes, and tentacle-like extensions at his command 4 5 10.
- Within visualization: Initially churns beneath Li Feng’s visualized feet; later appears beneath the flooring of his mind space 3 11.
- Changes after feeding: Becomes increasingly eerie, cold, and chaotic as it absorbs different powers. Li Feng initially struggles to judge these changes because it is an extension of his own mental power 10 35.
Abilities & Skills
Aura Concealment and Perception Disruption
- Hides Li Feng’s life aura from supernatural sensing. Its earliest manifestation defeats the Bride’s ability to locate him despite her close proximity 1.
- Enveloping another being cuts off its perception of surrounding targets. The Bride temporarily stops moving because she can no longer sense living people 4.
- Dense fog also obstructs ordinary sight; concealment is not the same as visual invisibility 1 5.
- Interferes with targeting. During the Butcher battle, fog between the combatants weakens the Butcher’s lock on Tian Yue 35.
- Concealment is strongest around Li Feng’s body. Detached fog remains detectable by a sufficiently sensitive Tracking Compass 17.
Energy Devouring and Refinement
- Consumes cultivation disturbances, supernatural manifestations, ghost energy, demonic power, yin energy, and power belonging to human practitioners 3 10 14 27 28 34.
- Acts as a filter: foreign attributes remain trapped in the fog while purified energy is returned to Li Feng 35.
- Can remove lingering eerie contamination from a person, as demonstrated when Li Feng discreetly cleanses Xie Wei 33.
- Converts absorbed power into growth for the fog and resources for Li Feng’s body and mind-space cultivation 12 26 35.
- Does not guarantee destruction of a supernatural being’s higher-dimensional source. Devouring the Bride’s manifestation leaves her true source alive elsewhere 10.
Supernatural Corrosion and Control
- Gradually corrodes Vengeful Ghosts into fully controlled Ghost Servants. Li Feng’s control of the Delivery Ghost extends to its body, power, and faint consciousness, leaving no room for rebellion 13 14.
- Stabilizes Chief’s ghost body and enables the cat to enter Li Feng’s mind space 19.
- Helps Li Feng seize the Weird Mirror by weakening its space and attacking its remaining power from inside and outside 24 26.
- Can strip usable power from an implanted entity rather than preserve it as an independent presence. The captured Ghost Eye power becomes Li Feng’s own resource 32 33.
- Servant creation transfers residual memories and consciousness to Li Feng. The Delivery Ghost’s death memories intrude into his dreams, making indiscriminate conversion dangerous to his identity 13 15.
Cultivation Support
- Removes hallucination-producing interference during visualization and body tempering, but does not remove the physical pain of training 3 6.
- Supplies purified energy that accelerates visualization and the formation of mind-space constructs 3 5 33.
- Tempering skin and hair with it produces supernatural properties absent from the ordinary Human Body Tempering Art: resistance to eerie power, hair capable of harming supernatural beings, and skin able to touch incorporeal ghosts 9 19.
- Its hallucination suppression allows Li Feng to compress unusually large amounts of practice into a short period. His progress still requires sustained effort and pain tolerance 31.
- Drawing too much power for visualization consumes the fog itself. That loss requires renewed growth through spiritual energy or supernatural feeding rather than simply reversing the transfer 10.
Remote Perception and Physical Interaction
- Dispersed fog senses its surroundings; condensed fog can grip and move physical objects 14.
- Functions as a scouting net, allowing Li Feng to search for supernatural power while remaining concealed at a distance 16 26 34.
- Passes through ordinary walls and roofs because it is mental and spiritual power rather than material mist 26.
- Can enter the Weird Mirror’s space and transmit a separate perspective to Li Feng 22.
- Can manifest around Weird Painted Skin while Li Feng inhabits that remote body, extending its hunting and energy-transfer applications 47.
Limitations & Vulnerabilities
- Visible manifestation: Even when it conceals an aura, the fog itself may be visible. Its early thin covering leaves Li Feng’s outline discernible 1.
- Incomplete detection: It initially finds nothing unusual in the mirror-affected bathroom; Chief’s vision reveals the faint supernatural traces it missed 22.
- Hostile influence through contact: Draining the Bride exposes Li Feng to intense cold and wedding-themed illusions. He loses more than an hour during one encounter 4 5.
- Damage feedback: Tian Yue’s crane feathers break down the fog and strike Li Feng’s mind through their connection. Destroying a detached portion reduces his available fog 17.
- Range dependence: Detached fog dissipates beyond its sustaining range. Natural dissipation does not inflict the same mental impact as an attack 17.
- Institutional restrictions: Federal government departments possess institutional force strong enough to restrict it noticeably, though Li Feng’s human identity and official affiliation mitigate the effect 26.
- Stronger opposition: The Horned Demon Ancestor’s retaliatory energy breaches part of it, and the unknown presence in the abandoned orphanage repels its probing mist 27 48.
- Unresolved changes: Mind-space purification only slightly improves its eerie, chaotic condition; it does not change that underlying nature 35.
Relationships
- Li Feng — Wielder and source. Mind Fog follows his will; even as its nature grows stranger, his control becomes stronger rather than weaker 1 35.
- Wedding-Dress Bride — First threat evaded and first major supernatural feeding target. Devouring her manifestation establishes the fog’s ability to affect physical matter 1 4 10.
- Delivery Ghost — First confirmed Ghost Servant created through corrosion; later supplies power that the fog absorbs during cultivation 13 14.
- Chief — Second Ghost Servant. His supernatural vision complements the fog’s sensing where faint traces escape detection 19 22.
- Weird Mirror — Controlled supernatural asset whose power substantially strengthens the fog and whose mirror spaces provide additional routes for its use 22 24 26.
- Tian Yue — Mistakes the fog for an anomaly and damages it. A later encounter demonstrates its increased durability and ability to drain human power 17 34 35.
- Weird Painted Skin — Remote body capable of manifesting Mind Fog and transferring absorbed prey energy into Li Feng’s mind space 47.
