On the way back to the Investigation Department, Yuan Chengfang glanced at Li Feng.
"Li Feng, don't be fooled by how the Demon-Subduing Guards in the Response Department seem invincible in battle, basking in glory.
Fighting eerie entities and demons head-on is also the most dangerous job..."
"Yes, I know, Captain!
I think our work as Investigators is great..."
Li Feng nodded, showing that he was quite happy with his current work as an Investigator.
Indeed, there was less to do, and it was safer!
It left him plenty of time to handle his own affairs.
"Good, as long as you understand!"
Yuan Chengfang nodded, her expression finally easing.
After returning to the Investigation Department and reporting everything that had happened, their squad immediately received considerable commendations.
And given Li Feng's performance in the battle, he deserved the lion's share of the credit.
He was therefore awarded seven hundred points and seven hundred thousand in cash, bringing him up to the requirements for promotion to Full Investigator.
Response Department Department Chief Wang Jianfeng did not hesitate, directly promoting Li Feng to Full Investigator.
However, since Li Feng had already fused with the Ghost Eye, there was little difference from before. He simply received new credentials and higher clearance for accessing information and the like.
Everyone also replenished the ammunition they had used.
Naturally, they went to the Aroma Pavilion for another celebration.
This time, Li Feng treated them.
He had just pocketed seven hundred thousand, after all. It was only right to be generous for once.
Li Feng returned home feeling lightheaded, but after washing up, his mind instantly cleared, leaving no trace of drunkenness.
He waved a hand, making the pieces of human skin laid out side by side on the sofa shift aside, then plopped down.
He immersed his consciousness in his Mind Space and instantly reached into the Weird Mirror's Mirror Space.
The Mirror Space had now restored itself.
However, it no longer resembled the room from before. Instead, it reflected the room in his Mind Space, taking on the appearance of Li Feng's room.
But that was unimportant.
What mattered was the layer of bluish-purple hair covering the floor, all of it taken from that Demon.
When reporting the incident, everyone had overlooked it, deliberately or otherwise. No one had mentioned it.
Or rather, this was an unspoken rule. When dealing with Demons and Paranormal Entity incidents, regulations required nearly all spoils to be handed over.
Combat personnel, however, often secretly kept some of the spoils as an extra reward.
The Federation's higher-ups tacitly allowed this.
After all, frontline personnel risked their lives in battle. No one could object to them taking a little more loot.
Li Feng had contributed the most this time, so it was only natural for him to receive these hairs, which were clearly the Demon’s strongest means of attack.
Li Feng was, of course, more than happy to accept.
This was the strongest weapon of an Advanced Danger Level Demon. Its value was certainly considerable.
Most importantly, he also had hair that had been tempered into something extremely eerie.
If he infused the power of the Demon’s hair into his own, it would undoubtedly make his hair even stronger.
In an instant, Li Feng retrieved a lock of several dozen hairs from the Mirror Space.
Holding it in his hand, Li Feng could still feel its astonishing vitality, twitching and writhing like slithering snakes.
The next moment, thick fog rose from Li Feng's hand, steadily eroding and devouring the hairs.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes...
Nearly half an hour passed before Li Feng finally finished consuming the hairs in his hand.
At his current strength, even with his mind fog, Li Feng was at most approaching the intermediate danger level. He was still a considerable distance from the advanced danger level.
And the gap between each supernatural rank was enormous.
Naturally, devouring the strongest remaining part of an Advanced Danger Level Demon was extremely difficult for Li Feng as he was now.
Moreover, most of its power was lost and wasted in the process.
Of course, thanks to its higher quality, Li Feng still gained a fair amount of power.
His mind fog increased by a fist-sized amount.
But the power that had been eroded and converted into a Ghost Servant was extremely scant.
Looking at the power in his hand, barely equivalent to a single strand of hair, Li Feng could not help sighing inwardly. He was still too weak.
With a thought, that hair-thin strand of power merged into a hair at the front of Li Feng's head.
As the two fused, the already powerful hair instantly transformed once more.
A faint bluish-purple gleam also appeared on it.
At a thought, the hair suddenly lengthened, instantly stretching over ten meters and weaving back and forth throughout the Living Room.
Finally, under Li Feng's control, the hair stabbed fiercely toward a solid wooden stool.
Whoosh!
After slicing through the air, the hair pierced straight through the stool and lifted it effortlessly.
Li Feng estimated that the hair possessed at least two hundred and fifty kilograms of force, enough to serve as his strongest trump card for now.
As for the remaining hairs, after some thought, Li Feng decided to keep them for the time being.
For one thing, the power in the Demon’s hair was best suited to tempering hair.
And Li Feng was still at the Skin Tempering stage, with some way to go before tempering his tendons and hair.
For another, Li Feng’s current strength was too low. Refining those hairs would not only take time and effort, but also waste a great deal of their power.
Since that was the case, why not wait until his cultivation advanced before refining them?
Having made his decision, Li Feng gathered them together and piled them in a corner of the Mirror Space.
Then Li Feng tore another patch of skin from his right arm, waited for the wound to scab over, and began his cultivation for the day.
During the battle against the Demon, Li Feng had done more than control the Weird Mirror to provide support.
Throughout the fight, he had secretly used the Weird Mirror's ability to transport large amounts of mind fog over, continuously devouring and absorbing the demon's power.
With his current cultivation, devouring the Demon itself, or even its remaining parts, was beyond his capabilities.
But devouring the energy dispersed during the battle posed no problem at all.
And that demon had been at the advanced danger level. Even the energy it shed during combat was immense to Li Feng, easily equivalent to half an Eerie Butcher.
With so much energy at his disposal, Li Feng naturally made tremendous progress during this cultivation session.
Even while simultaneously forming everything in Room 1502, he managed to shape it all completely. Though it remained somewhat illusory, it was now very stable.
From then on, he only needed to keep infusing it with mental power and energy to quickly make it solid.
His mind fog expanded directly to a radius of thirty-one meters, allowing him to control it from as far as three kilometers away.
After finishing his visualization, Li Feng looked at his fully restored arm, gritted his teeth, and tore off another patch.
Several more days passed this way, and Li Feng replaced all the skin on his right arm and both legs.
By then, the first piece of skin he had torn from his left arm had exhausted all its power.
On the seventh day, only a tenth of its power remained. The entire piece of skin fell dormant, as though it were nothing more than ordinary dead skin.
On the tenth day, its power was completely exhausted. Even Li Feng could not detect the slightest trace of power within it.
This showed that its power truly had been depleted.
Unlike the hair before, however, Li Feng could still sense his connection to it.
It was just that, with its power exhausted, he could no longer control its movements.
The only thing he could still control was...
The instant he willed it, the surrounding World Spiritual Force began gathering toward the piece of skin, and traces of vitality slowly reawakened within it.
This was the ability Li Feng could still control: its absorption and consumption of World Spiritual Force.
Now, after leaving Li Feng’s body, his skin would not truly lose all vitality even when its energy was completely depleted. Instead, it would enter a dormant state.
All it took was a thought from Li Feng to activate it, and it would resume absorbing and devouring World Spiritual Force, restoring its vitality.
Moreover, its power and vitality recovered extremely quickly.
Exhausting its energy had taken nearly half a month, but fully restoring its power and vitality took less than half an hour.
Half an hour later, the piece of skin was no different from when it had first left Li Feng's body.
Looking at the pieces of skin on the sofa, some dormant and others brimming with power and vitality, Li Feng willed away his suppression of their instincts.
In an instant, the roughly palm-sized pieces of skin all began trembling slightly, as though resonating with one another.
A short while later, the pieces whose power had dwindled began devouring the surrounding World Spiritual Force to recover.
Those with sufficient power began wriggling, inching toward the other pieces around them.
The pieces on the sofa's backrest even sprang up slightly and drifted down.
Soon, the countless pieces of skin began touching one another.
The instant they made contact, countless fleshy buds sprouted along their edges, interlocking and joining together to fuse into a single whole.
A short while later, the countless pieces of skin finished fusing and reassembling.
Looking at the sofa now, skin shaped like two arms and two thighs lay limply across it.
Then, after a brief pause, they drew together again, their edges writhing as they connected.
And so, a Human-Skin Monster consisting of nothing but two arms and two legs appeared on the sofa.
Once it appeared, it instinctively crawled toward Li Feng, seeking to return to his body.
Li Feng stopped it, however.
He had yet to complete his final shedding. Who knew whether fusing them back into himself now would cause other side effects?
Just then, a cold, sinister power descended without warning. Even the surrounding mind fog could not block it completely.
"Hee hee hee...
Found you. Eat, eat, eat..."
Faint, eerie murmurs drifted over, as though from across an endless expanse of space.
