Background / History

Welt remembers a carefree childhood before inheriting the name “Welt,” particularly the security his father provided. His later life involved the Honkai, painful struggles, companions, dependable juniors, and family. Jiang Yao’s coffee brings these memories together, allowing him to recognize the sweetness within experiences he once found painful 24.

The narration describes Welt as bearing the will of three hundred thousand people. When he tastes Jiang Yao’s Entwined Fate, he briefly relives the happiness of his youth before taking on that burden 50.

His past continues to shape his reactions aboard the Express. He repeatedly thinks that the Honkai is “still chasing” him, while the name Hua brings reassurance and nostalgia 19 24 41 46.

After the Jarilo-VI expedition, Welt and Dan Heng retrieve the unconscious Jiang Yao from space. The crew takes him to Herta Space Station for treatment, where Herta advises them to let him rest 1 3 5.

Once Jiang Yao awakens, Welt accompanies Himeko to check on him. They find him cooking and initially struggle to understand Asta’s excitement over ordinary egg fried rice. After tasting it, Welt asks whether rare ingredients explain its flavor; Asta reveals that the rice and eggs are ordinary supplies 5 6.

The meal leaves Welt and Himeko unable to enjoy the station’s lavish feast. They return to Jiang Yao the following morning for soup dumplings, inadvertently worrying the younger crew by ignoring messages and calls. When confronted, each admits to having assumed the other would tell everyone about breakfast 7 8 10 11 13.

Welcoming Jiang Yao Aboard

Welt supports Himeko’s invitation for Jiang Yao to join the Nameless and welcomes his acceptance. After boarding, he helps Himeko and Pom-Pom reconsider the train’s destination 15 17.

He soon joins the gathering in the dining car, claiming that he has come to check on Jiang Yao’s adjustment to life aboard the train. Himeko’s offer of coffee instead recalls the pain Welt experienced when he forced down her coffee after first joining the Express 18 19.

Jiang Yao’s later pour-over coffee evokes Welt’s childhood and difficult past. Welt praises it as having “transcended the very concept of coffee” 24 25.

Xianzhou Luofu Expedition

When Kafka appears, Welt joins the crew’s subtle efforts to protect Jiang Yao. He subsequently supports changing course to the Luofu, agreeing with the others’ judgment while visibly anticipating Xianzhou cuisine 25 26.

Welt leads the advance team and helps March and Stelle capture Kafka. That evening, he contacts Jiang Yao after noticing that he has not returned from Aurum Alley 27 31.

Aurum Alley and the Marshal Rumor

Qingque guides Welt, March, and Stelle to Aurum Alley. Welt initially finds the rumored presence of Marshal Hua reassuring, then realizes that the supposed Marshal’s food sampling and snack improvements describe Jiang Yao’s activities 41 46.

He fears another political misunderstanding, especially when Jing Yuan and Fu Xuan arrive. Jing Yuan dismisses the rumors as minor, but Fu Xuan’s claim that Jiang Yao may resolve the Luofu’s predicament leaves Welt astonished 46 47.
