"Or could it be..."
Lind's eyes flickered as he began checking Shiho Miyano's stats.
[Shiho Miyano] [Race: Demon] [Master: Lind Lucifer] [Level: L10] [Skill: Magic Heart] [Magic Heart: No magic in the world holds any mysteries for you. You can master it extremely quickly.]
Sure enough, she had leveled up.
Did that mean he had gained this experience because she had leveled up?
"So when a Familiar grows stronger, their master benefits too."
Feeling the slight increase in the magic power within him, Lind's lips curved into a smile.
Didn't that mean...
Once he had more Familiars...
He could keep growing stronger just by lazing around at home?
The next morning.
Sunlight spilled through the gaps in the curtains.
"Master, you pervert! Did you plan this all along?"
Shiho Miyano watched Lind wake up, pummeling him with her dainty fists.
"This was your problem, you know. Helping you was hard work!"
Lind looked thoroughly aggrieved.
It really was the truth.
He had looked into it last night.
He had discovered that if Shiho Miyano had no feelings for him, simply replenishing her magic would never have provoked such a strong reaction.
"???"
Shiho Miyano froze, staring at Lind in disbelief.
How could anyone say something like that?
Are you saying I took advantage of you?
"I-I'm going to bite you to death!"
Despite how hard she tried, it barely tickled Lind.
He pulled Shiho Miyano into his arms.
"All right, I'll stop teasing you."
Lind's voice softened as he stroked her hair.
After struggling a few times, Shiho Miyano settled down and muttered under her breath, "You jerk. You got lucky."
"It was my first time too, you know. You're not losing out."
Lind whispered softly into her ear.
A flash of delight crossed Shiho Miyano's eyes at his words.
To her surprise, she found that deep down, she didn't seem to feel any difficulty accepting what had happened.
Come to think of it...
Lind really had saved her.
Otherwise...
Even if those Curse Spirits hadn't killed her...
The Black Organization would probably have silenced her someday once she outlived her usefulness.
But now...
Not only she...
Even her sister could live out in the sunlight.
"It's getting late. We should wash up and take a shower while we're at it."
At Lind's reminder, Shiho Miyano blushed, suddenly aware of how sticky her body felt.
Yes, she definitely needed a shower.
Lind's detached villa wasn't far from the private Kuoh Academy.
They didn't need any transportation.
After crossing a few streets, Lind and Shiho Miyano arrived at the school gates.
Shiho Miyano stared at Kuoh Academy, looking a little bewildered.
"What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
"When you said you had something to take care of, you meant coming to school?"
"That's right. I'm transferring here to become a student."
"Huh?"
Shiho Miyano blinked, then blurted out, "Devils have to go to school too?"
"What's so surprising about that?"
Lind shrugged. "This school is controlled by devils in the first place."
Shiho Miyano opened her mouth, then fell silent for a long while before asking, "Is this world already under devil rule?"
"It's not that easy. There are plenty of factions in this world that are just as powerful as devils."
Lind shook his head and briefly explained some of the other circumstances.
"So your childhood friend is the one in charge here?"
Shiho Miyano felt inexplicably guilty.
After all, everything that could have happened last night had happened.
Seeing how cautious she looked, Lind smiled. "Relax. There's nothing going on between Rias and me."
"Master, are you sure?"
"Ahem. For now, anyway. Who knows what'll happen later?"
"I knew it. You really are a shameless womanizer, Master."
Shiho Miyano shot Lind a fierce glare.
This master of hers...
He already had one girl and still had his eye on another.
"With an appetite like that, aren't you afraid of biting off more than you can chew?"
She muttered under her breath.
Jealousy began to simmer inside her.
No matter what, she was a girl too.
How could she possibly not get jealous?
"Lind, you're here."
Just then...
A voice called out from a distance.
Rias approached them in her school uniform.
Her gaze, however, landed on Shiho Miyano. "And who is this?"
"My newest servant."
At Lind's answer, Rias felt a twinge of jealousy.
The girl showed no signs of having trained.
She should have been just an ordinary human.
That Lind...
Did he take her in just because she's pretty?
Has he already started running wild after only just arriving in the human world?
Noticing Rias's gaze, Shiho Miyano straightened her back. "Hello, I'm Shiho Miyano."
No matter what, she couldn't lose when it came to presence.
I'm a pretty girl too, after all.
"I'm Rias. It's nice to meet you."
After they introduced themselves, Rias took Lind and Shiho Miyano to the school administration office to handle the paperwork.
Chapter 8: Did Lind just casually pull an SSR?
The old school building of the private Kuoh Academy.
This had once been Kuoh Academy's school building. Having stood abandoned for so long, it had an eerie, sinister air.
Once Rias had helped Lind finish all the paperwork, the three of them came here.
Shiho Miyano surveyed the old building and quipped, "Is this one of the school's seven mysteries or something?"
"There are rumors like that, yes."
Rias pushed open the door. "But it's actually where my Familiars spend their time."
As she spoke, the three entered a spacious clubroom.
"Akeno, Koneko, look who's here."
"Lind, it's lovely to see you again."
Akeno Himejima smiled faintly. "Would you two prefer black tea or coffee?"
"I'll have black tea. What about you, Shiho?"
"Coffee, thank you."
Koneko Toujou waved, her voice utterly flat. "Hello, Lind."
"You're as aloof as ever."
Lind sat on the sofa and glanced around before asking, "Rias, are Koneko and Akeno still your only two Familiars?"
Rias replied helplessly, "There's not much I can do. Good Familiars are just too hard to find."
"That's true."
Lind nodded thoughtfully, though the corners of his lips lifted slightly.
Apparently...
Whether it was because of him or because this world had changed...
Yuuto Kiba and that vampire were nowhere to be found.
That was a good thing too.
