Background / History
Black Organization Defection
Vermouth is an influential Black Organization member with access to its concealed headquarters and leader. She initially refuses Akemi Miyano’s request for a meeting because of Akemi’s low rank, but agrees when Akemi mentions Shiho. She arrives at Harbor Pier with armed bodyguards and orders them to seize the sisters after they announce their intention to destroy the organization 13.
Shiho kills the bodyguards with Wind Blades. Vermouth attempts to flee, but Lind immobilizes her with supernatural pressure. After learning that he is a demon and that Shiho has become his familiar, she surrenders. She reveals that destroying the organization is also her wish: she had intended to wait for the “Silver Bullet,” but now regards Lind as a more immediate means of achieving it 14.
Joining Lind’s Household
At Lind’s villa, Vermouth learns that both Miyano sisters have become devils and envies their newfound strength. She kneels before Lind and offers her loyalty, fearing rejection during his prolonged silence. Once accepted, she deliberately exceeds his instruction to remove only her outer clothing as an attempt to please him 15.
After reincarnation, she commits Lind Lucifer’s full name to memory and treats proving herself as a servant as an immediate priority. She quickly begins testing Demon Mask, using Shiho as her first demonstrated model 16.
Seizing the Organization’s Assets
Vermouth arranges an emergency meeting that brings Renya Karasuma and the organization’s executives to headquarters. She accompanies Lind and the Miyano sisters into the building, openly calls Lind her master, and rejects Karasuma’s authority. To secure the organization’s wealth, she recommends keeping Rum alive temporarily 18.
After Lind kills the other executives, Vermouth approaches Rum for questioning. She subsequently reports that the organization’s funds and legitimate fixed assets are under her control. When Lind proposes an exorcism agency to provide his servants with practical combat experience, she quickly finds a storefront 19.
Exorcism Agency and Later Service
Vermouth helps establish the agency and insists on receiving recognition alongside Shiho when its renovations are completed. She also explains servant customs to the newly reincarnated Asia 43 44.
During the confrontation at the church, she witnesses Asia’s lethal magic and questions Lind’s decision to recruit hostile fallen angels. After he assures her that they cannot betray him, she helps prepare them for reincarnation 45 46.
Learning that Lind has recruited servants in another world initially makes Vermouth jealous. His explanation of world travel and his unusual reincarnation ability turns that jealousy into greater admiration. Later, she personally decorates the agency’s private second floor, leaving room for additional facilities; Lind praises the work and helps her achieve another breakthrough 47 50.
Appearance
Vermouth is introduced as a tall, voluptuous blonde woman with a refined appearance and sharply watchful eyes 13.
- Hair: Golden blonde 13 14.
- Initial clothing: Black leather 13.
- Bearing: Elegant and mature, with an intimidating gaze 13.
- Devil feature: A heart-shaped tail, shown after her transformation 44.
- Variable appearance: Demon Mask allows her to replace her usual appearance with a replica of another person 16.
Personality
Vermouth combines caution with a strong survival instinct. She brings bodyguards to meet a low-ranking member, but abandons resistance once Lind demonstrates a power she cannot counter. Her cooperation also serves an existing goal: the destruction of the Black Organization 13 14.
She is ambitious and proactive in seeking Lind’s favor. The Miyano sisters’ power motivates her to pursue reincarnation, and she uses flirtation, deliberate obedience, and practical service to distinguish herself. Despite her confident presentation, Lind’s silence frightens her, and the reincarnation preparations leave her embarrassed 15 16 17.
Her rivalry with Shiho is openly teasing and competitive. She mocks Shiho’s figure while copying her, protests when Shiho appears to receive all the credit for agency work, and competes for Lind’s attention. The rivalry nevertheless becomes familiar enough for them to work and seek advancement together 16 19 44.
Abilities & Skills
Demon Mask
Her reincarnation skill reproduces another person’s appearance, voice, and aura; testing reveals that it can also copy techniques 16 17.
- Identity replication: Her transformation into Shiho has no discrepancy that Lind can detect, including its aura 16.
- Information requirement: She can replicate people she knows something about; more information produces a more complete transformation 16.
- Technique copying: While imitating Shiho, she reproduces Wind Blade magic 17.
- Power limitation: Her copied Wind Blade is weaker than Shiho’s because Vermouth’s own strength is lower 17.
- Uncopyable target: An attempt to transform into Lind produces no change. Lind attributes this to his position as the source of her bestowed power 17.
- Potential: Lind suggests that greater personal strength could eventually let her outperform an original user’s technique; this is not demonstrated 17.
Disguise
Vermouth already possesses disguise expertise before becoming a devil. On reading Demon Mask’s description, she initially compares it to her existing Disguise ability 16.
- Lind and the sisters take precautions against her sending a disguised subordinate to their meeting 13.
- Lind confirms that the woman who arrives at the pier is Vermouth herself and is not wearing a disguise 13.
Devil Magic
Beyond her unique skill, Vermouth uses magic in household work 44.
- Casts cleaning magic alongside Shiho 44.
- Gains increasing strength through advancement under Lind’s contract 17 44 50.
Intelligence and Administration
Her organizational knowledge and practical efficiency remain valuable after her defection 18 19.
- Knows the Black Organization headquarters’ location and can arrange a meeting with Karasuma 14 18.
- Identifies Rum as useful for transferring control of the organization’s wealth 18.
- Secures funds and legitimate fixed assets for Lind 19.
- Finds the Exorcism Agency’s premises and personally decorates its private upper floor 19 50.
Relationships
- Lind Lucifer — Master and source of her devil transformation. Their relationship develops from coerced cooperation into active service, intimacy, and admiration 14 15 16 47.
- Shiho Miyano / Sherry — Fellow servant and principal rival for Lind’s attention. Vermouth frequently copies and teases her, but they also cooperate on agency work and training 16 17 44.
- Akemi Miyano — Former organizational subordinate who draws her into the pier meeting. Both want the organization destroyed, though Akemi remains wary of Vermouth’s efforts to win Lind’s favor 13 14 16.
- Renya Karasuma — Former leader. Vermouth arranges his attendance at the emergency meeting before openly repudiating his authority 18.
- Rum — Former organizational colleague whom she has spared temporarily to help secure its assets 18 19.
- Calvados — Devoted admirer whose jealousy over her closeness with Lind leads him to attack Lind and be killed 18.
- Asia — New household companion whom Vermouth welcomes and begins instructing in servant customs 43 44.
