Ch. 681Xu Feiniang

Plot and events

  • Jiang Xuejun’s three mystic-yin corpse demons and relentless thunder attacks nearly overwhelm Ling Hun and Cui Wugu. Just as they are trapped between the demons’ assaults, a white sword pierces the Elderly Woman Corpse Demon and drives it back.
  • The newcomer is Xu Feiniang, reborn after Wutai disciples gathered her shattered soul and restored her. She has forgotten her former life and lost much of her human feeling, but has recovered about eighty percent of her former power. Her Hundred-Spirit Immortal-Slaying Sword, reforged after reincarnation, helps counter Jiang’s demons.
  • Situ Ping, Wutai’s powerful young sect leader, arrives with other Wutai disciples. He and Xu Feiniang help Ling Hun and Cui Wugu hold their ground; the less powerful Wutai fighters are sent to face the other enemies.
  • On the eastern peak, Fairy Han kills Xing Tianhe with overwhelming force, destroying both his body and spirit. Yixiu, determined not to be outdone, kills Xing Tianxiang and uses the brothers’ remains to trick Jiang’s corpse demons into consuming his scattered soul. He then detonates Five-Element Divine Light inside them, badly draining their energy.
  • Jiang responds by unleashing Yan Yingmu’s formidable Goddess Shuttle against Yixiu. Shi Feiyang sends a telepathic plan: the allies must seize the Shuttle before Jiang’s corruption turns the treasure into a tool for Chiyou’s invasion.
  • Ling Hun, Cui Wugu, Fairy Han, Yixiu, and Situ Ping coordinate their attacks. Yixiu and Situ Ping lift the Shuttle with Five-Colored Divine Light, while the Haotian Treasure Mirror suppresses its power. A manifestation of Western Pole elder Zong Duona reaches from the mirror and takes it.
  • Jiang spends her essence blood in a furious attempt to recover the Shuttle, blasting Zong Duona apart. But the mirror has already swallowed the treasure and vanishes with it, leaving Jiang without her weapon.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xu Feiniang returns as a formidable but emotionally blunted figure. She is distant from nearly everyone, interacting mainly with Situ Ping and his mother; her rescue of Ling Hun and Cui Wugu shows her usefulness despite her detachment.
  • Situ Ping is presented as a disciplined, accomplished leader whose strong cultivation and character distinguish him from the more vulnerable path he might have followed in another life. He works closely with Xu Feiniang and later strains himself to help capture the Goddess Shuttle.
  • Yixiu and Fairy Han reveal a competitive but supportive marriage: each races to kill an enemy, yet Fairy Han intervenes when Yixiu faces danger.
  • Jiang Xuejun is increasingly consumed by demonic corruption. Her rage and desperate use of blood essence show how far she has fallen, while the others treat her as a serious threat rather than a recoverable ally.

Significant themes

  • Rebirth and the cost of restoration: Xu Feiniang’s body and soul are restored, but her memories and much of her emotional life are lost.
  • Power, cooperation, and strategy: No single fighter can safely face Jiang; coordinated attacks and the Haotian Mirror’s suppression are essential to taking the Shuttle.
  • Corruption and responsibility: Jiang’s corruption turns a revered defensive treasure into a potential instrument of invasion, making its seizure a moral necessity.
  • Ruthlessness in warfare: Fairy Han and Yixiu annihilate their enemies completely, while Yixiu exploits the corpse demons’ appetite for souls to weaken them.

Ch. 682The Greater and Lesser Twelve Heavens Divine Swords

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang continues absorbing the thirty-six black tides while coordinating the war across three fronts. The western front is led by Xing Tianxiang and Xing Tianhe, the central front by Chiyou, and the eastern front by Sikong Zhan.
  • The eastern battle centers on Bohai Bay, where vast demon-beast armies threaten Shanhai Pass and the surrounding lands. Immortals struggle to contain the beasts’ overwhelming strength and the natural disasters they generate, while Shi Feiyang’s Dongling Zither helps suppress them.
  • Sikong Zhan, disgraced by earlier defeats and fearful of powerful rivals, now serves Chiyou. Chiyou has helped him strengthen his twelve-heavens demon thunder.
  • Chiyou has grown immensely powerful by consuming the souls and bodies of countless beings, including Immortal Granny Dongxuan. But the accumulated memories and wills are destabilizing his identity and consciousness.
  • Seeking a remedy, Chiyou accepts the Stone God Princess’s guidance: he refines a Blood God Core from the heart’s blood of ten thousand demons and his own essence. It reduces—but does not eliminate—the influence of the absorbed souls.
  • Shi Zhu confronts Chiyou with the Xuanyuan Nine Palaces Divine Swords, which he has painstakingly refined. Chiyou counters with twelve distorted-space “Minor Heavens Divine Swords,” capable of cutting apart almost anything that passes through them. The chapter ends as their clash begins.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang acts as strategist and protector, directing the three fronts while preparing Shi Zhu and his swords specifically to oppose Chiyou.
  • Sikong Zhan is portrayed as a fearful, embittered former leader whose repeated defeats and loss of standing have driven him into Chiyou’s service. His history with Yixiu, Jiang Xuejun, and the Buddhist Master Youtan explains his caution and shame.
  • Shi Zhu demonstrates both inherited strength and disciplined preparation. Though he has not recovered his former-life memories, he has cultivated the power of Old Man Withered Bamboo and trained the Xuanyuan swords for this battle.
  • Chiyou has become stronger but increasingly unstable. His alliance with the Stone God Princess is transactional: she offers demonic knowledge in exchange for his help freeing Deng Yin.
  • The Stone God Princess’s intervention gives Chiyou a temporary means of controlling the souls inside him, setting up a direct magical contest between his new weapon and Shi Zhu’s.

Significant themes

  • Power and its cost: Chiyou’s stolen strength brings growing mental and spiritual corruption.
  • Identity and memory: The souls and memories Chiyou absorbs threaten to erase his sense of self.
  • Preparation and responsibility: Shi Feiyang’s foresight and Shi Zhu’s years of refinement are intended to meet a threat that cannot be overcome by force alone.
  • The scale of war: The conflict endangers not only armies but entire regions, as demon beasts and their elemental assaults threaten the land and its people.

Ch. 683The Great and Minor Heavens Worlds

Summary

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Zhu uses the sword-refining method taught by Shi Feiyang to complete the Xuanyuan Nine Swords. Forged and refined at Yellow Mountain, they become nine true-form dragon spirits that can shift between substance and formlessness. Chiyou’s twelve divine swords cannot harm them.
  • Chiyou sends his swords after Shi Zhu instead. Shi Zhu retreats into a bamboo grove and deploys a perfected Eight Gates and Nine Palaces formation, trapping and rearranging space. Chiyou’s swords also manipulate space, however, and the two powers turn the battlefield into a wildly jumbled maze.
  • Shi Zhu’s Xuanyuan Swords pursue Chiyou. He flees through his twenty-four heavenly demon realms, sealing eight swords in separate worlds and preparing to imprison the last.
  • Shi Feiyang intervenes with the Haotian Treasure Mirror. Its light reaches into the demon realms, reveals the imprisoned swords, and breaks their seals, allowing Shi Zhu to summon them back.
  • Chiyou counters by unleashing Hunyuan Mystic Ice, made from stolen Heavenly One Mystic Ice infused with primordial energy. It strikes the Haotian Mirror and freezes it solid, causing it to shatter. The cold spreads across the world, freezing the Yellow River and bringing snow to southern regions.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Zhu demonstrates the effectiveness of his careful training and refined formations. He coordinates the swords and formation under pressure, but needs Shi Feiyang’s help to free the swords from Chiyou’s realms.
  • Shi Feiyang supports Shi Zhu by using the Haotian Mirror, but is caught off guard by Chiyou’s hidden weapon. His surprise shows that even his divination and knowledge have limits.
  • Chiyou shifts from confidence to frustration when his swords cannot touch the Xuanyuan dragons, then regains the advantage through cunning and preparation. His long-standing hatred of Xuanyuan’s legacy drives his attempt to destroy the swords, while memories of the Haotian Mirror fuel his determination to counter it.
  • Chiyou obtained the ice through a chain of alliances and conflict: the Stone God Princess’s coalition brought Chishi Divine Monarch into contact with the secret of Lu Xun’s treasure; Chiyou supported Chishi’s attack on Lu Xun, then stole the ice during their battle.

Significant themes

  • Preparation versus uncertainty: Shi Feiyang’s careful instruction gives Shi Zhu powerful tools, but Chiyou’s unforeseen countermeasure overturns the battle.
  • Inherited legacies and old grudges: The weapons and sites of the Yellow Emperor remain central to the present conflict, as Chiyou seeks revenge for his ancient defeat.
  • Power through adaptation: Both sides exploit unusual properties—shifting sword forms, spatial formations, and linked worlds—rather than relying only on direct force.
  • The vastness of the cosmos: The distinction between great and minor heavens emphasizes the immense variety of worlds and the scale of the forces involved.

Ch. 684Tianmeng's ascension

Key plot points and events

  • Chiyou unleashes the Hunyuan Divine Ice, sending a vast cold wave south. Immortals and cultivators try to contain it, but their spells and fire treasures are overwhelmed.
  • Shi Feiyang thaws the Haotian Treasure Mirror and reactivates the Yellow Emperor’s talismans. Three hundred and sixty sunlike lights rise around the world, dispelling the cold and combining into a great sun that illuminates even the perpetually dark North Pole.
  • Shi Feiyang directs the mirror’s power toward the sun to attack Chiyou. Chiyou counters with the Chaos Mystic Ice, causing a huge explosion of fire, light, and frozen qi. Shi Feiyang uses the Dongling Zither, amplified by the mirror, to disperse the falling debris and protect the land.
  • Their exchange reveals that both Shi Feiyang and Chiyou are far more powerful than the other—or the watching cultivators—had expected. Each had misjudged the other while concealing his own strength.
  • Chan Master Tianmeng, who had expected Shi Feiyang to defeat Chiyou easily, recognizes that he must leave for the Ultimate Bliss World. He sees Amitabha and the Bodhisattvas arrive and departs on a lotus throne.
  • Xie Shan remains in Fujian, struggling with resentment and jealousy as villagers worship Shi Feiyang. He repeatedly checks and corrects his thoughts, but has not yet overcome his inner attachments. A fellow Buddhist arrives as the chapter ends.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates immense strategic and magical power, using the talismans, Haotian Mirror, and Dongling Zither both to counter Chiyou and to prevent harm to people below.
  • Chiyou proves to be no broken remnant: his ice magic can challenge Shi Feiyang’s great celestial techniques, making the conflict far more serious than either side expected.
  • Tianmeng understands that Xie Shan’s obstacle is not lack of knowledge or effort, but his inability to put Buddhist principles into practice regarding the Xie King School. Despite his concern for Xie Shan, Tianmeng ultimately ascends.
  • Xie Shan knows the Dharma deeply and can recognize his anger, murderous impulses, desire for recognition, and wish for escape as attachments. He suppresses them through reflection, but still cannot attain the inner freedom needed for ascension.
  • The chapter also notes the broader conflict’s effects on other defenders, including Yu Wa, Lei Qilong, and Divine Lord Lesser Yang, whose efforts against the cold prove inadequate until Shi Feiyang’s intervention.

Significant themes

  • Hidden strength and miscalculation: Both central opponents—and the wider world—underestimate the scale of the confrontation.
  • Principle versus practice: Xie Shan can explain the Dharma but cannot fully live it when confronted with painful personal attachments.
  • Attachment and spiritual freedom: Resentment, jealousy, and even the desire for purity or escape can obstruct liberation.
  • Power and responsibility: Shi Feiyang’s response is directed not only at defeating Chiyou but also at preventing the battle from devastating the world.

Ch. 685The Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman Rewound Time and Space

Key plot points

  • Nun Xinru returns Xie Shan’s unconscious daughters, Xie Ying and Xie Lin, and says they tried to use the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman to travel back in time and kill Shi Feiyang before his later calamities. Their ritual failed, trapping them in an illusion shaped by their own deluded thoughts.
  • Inside the illusion, the sisters’ pursuit of Shi Feiyang becomes increasingly violent. Their anger leads them from selective killings to slaughtering anyone they dislike. Xie Shan enters Xie Lin’s illusion to rescue them, but seeing his daughters in danger, he loses his composure and becomes trapped too.
  • The family’s battle against Shi Feiyang and his allies escalates until they face annihilation. Master Fentuo’s Buddha light awakens Xie Shan, who returns to his body.
  • Fentuo then reveals that Xinru secretly helped the sisters steal the talisman. She manipulated him into placing it inside his wooden fish, then obscured his awareness so the theft could succeed. The chapter ends as Fentuo begins explaining how he was distracted.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xie Ying and Xie Lin are driven by their fixation on killing Shi Feiyang. In the illusion, their pursuit turns them into indiscriminate killers; Xie Lin is especially deeply immersed.
  • Xie Shan initially tries to rescue his daughters, but his love and rage pull him into their delusion. He must be reminded that his purpose is to awaken them.
  • Nun Xinru first appears to be the sisters’ rescuer, but Fentuo’s revelation casts her as the architect behind the theft.
  • Master Fentuo breaks Xie Shan out of the illusion and reveals his own lapse in judgment. His urgent search for Xinru signals the seriousness of her deception.
  • Shi Feiyang, though largely pursued rather than present, remains the focus of the sisters’ obsession and the cause around which the illusion’s violence spirals.

Significant themes

  • Delusion and attachment: The talisman does not harm the sisters; their own obsessive minds create the prison they suffer in.
  • The consequences of vengeance: A desire to prevent future suffering instead produces more violence, suffering, and karmic burden.
  • Compassion versus anger: Xie Shan’s love for his daughters is genuine, but his uncontrolled rage prevents him from saving them.
  • Karma and unintended consequences: Altering events—or imagining that one has—does not erase moral responsibility; the family’s actions deepen their entanglement in violence.

Ch. 686Xie Shan Guides His Daughters to Salvation

Key plot points

  • Master Fentuo reveals that Nun Xinru has reverted to the unorthodox path and manipulated Xie Shan’s daughters into stealing the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman. She also took the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner, and her purpose is unknown.
  • Fentuo leaves to consult Nun You Tan, while Xie Shan enters his daughter Xie Lin’s delusory realm to rescue her and Xie Qing.
  • In the realm, the sisters have been tortured and transformed into god-demons. Xie Shan frees them, but Xie Lin insists these events—and her supposed journey back in time—are real.
  • Xie Shan explains that the realm is a fabrication, yet its flawlessly connected events make it impossible to disprove. Even the sisters’ treasures appear genuine within it.
  • Xie Shan recognizes that his own hatred of Shi Feiyang nearly draws him into Xie Lin’s delusion. He steadies himself through Buddhist practice, but cannot awaken her or persuade her to let go of the realm.

Character developments

  • Xie Shan struggles between Buddhist discipline and his suppressed desire for revenge. Facing his daughters’ stubborn delusion helps him understand the difficulty Chan Master Tianmeng faced in guiding him.
  • Xie Lin remains convinced that she has traveled into the past. Her suffering fuels her hatred of her enemies and her determination to kill Shi Feiyang.
  • Xie Qing is present in the realm and participates with Xie Lin in summoning the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner, though she has little individual development here.
  • Master Fentuo shifts quickly from investigating the theft to seeking help, alarmed by the loss of two powerful Buddhist relics.

Significant themes

  • Delusion and reality: A convincing world can be sustained by coherent cause and effect, making truth difficult to prove.
  • Attachment and suffering: Xie Lin’s love of the golden banner and hatred of her enemies keep her bound to the realm.
  • Restraint and compassion: Xie Shan must confront his own revengeful impulses and follow Tianmeng’s teaching to guide others toward salvation.
  • The limits of guidance: Even sincere explanation and spiritual power may not free someone who refuses to release their beliefs.

Character interactions

  • Fentuo warns Xie Shan about Xin Ruyu’s betrayal and the stolen relics, then departs to seek counsel.
  • Xie Shan rescues and comforts Xie Lin, but their conversation becomes a painful disagreement: he calls her experiences illusory, while she urges him to join her in taking revenge.
  • The sisters’ successful summoning of the golden banner briefly challenges Xie Shan’s certainty, but he finds a logical inconsistency in Xie Lin’s account. Even so, the realm supplies explanations for the discrepancy, leaving him unable to convince her.
  • Xie Lin’s appeal to her father’s own hatred exposes how vulnerable he is to the same desire for revenge.

Ch. 687Cang Xu Attacks

Plot points and events

  • Xie Shan fails to free Xie Lin from her self-created delusion realm. Xie Ying has escaped her own realm, but explains that Lin’s deeper obsessions make her difficult to rescue and that outside voices could worsen her delusions.
  • Unable to help further, Xie Shan and Xie Ying carry the unconscious Lin back to the Tide-Sound Retreat to wait for her to awaken.
  • Meanwhile, Shi Feiyang has gathered all thirty-six black tides, freeing thirty-six Heavenly Immortals to reinforce the front. With Righteous Path fighters across the land and seas, the battle against Chiyou’s forces turns increasingly in Shi Feiyang’s favor.
  • Shi Feiyang prepares to counterattack Chiyou, but Old Man Cangxu arrives, accusing him of insulting and threatening him. Shi Feiyang realizes that Shang Heyang and the Green-Robed Ancestor likely provoked the confused old man.
  • Shi Feiyang has anticipated this possibility and arranged for Shibi Old Man to intervene. A letter from Shi Feiyang had persuaded Shibi to help by explaining his connection to Zen Master Zunsheng and promising to guide him through future trials.
  • Shibi arrives to occupy Cangxu while Shi Feiyang continues confronting Chiyou. Though Shi Feiyang urged caution, Shibi is eager to prove himself against a former fellow member of the Six Oddities.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xie Ying shows composure and insight, explaining why Lin cannot easily be rescued. Her unusually leisurely manner leaves Xie Shan uneasy, though he has no better option.
  • Xie Shan is distressed by his failure but accepts that Lin must recover through her own realization.
  • Shi Feiyang balances the battle on two fronts through preparation and strategic delegation. His letter also reveals compassion and a willingness to help Shibi fulfill Zen Master Zunsheng’s hopes.
  • Shibi Old Man is moved by learning that Zunsheng did not abandon him, and eager to repay Shi Feiyang’s trust. His pride, however, pushes him toward a more direct fight than Shi Feiyang recommended.
  • Cangxu, mentally impaired and influenced by his companions, arrives as an unpredictable threat. Shang Heyang and the Green-Robed Ancestor appear to have helped turn him against Shi Feiyang.

Significant themes

  • Delusion and self-knowledge: Deeply rooted obsessions can trap a person, and outside intervention may make the trap worse.
  • Duty and collective survival: The Righteous Path fighters risk everything to protect Huaxia’s people and civilization.
  • Preparation and cooperation: Shi Feiyang’s foresight and allies help him manage threats that would otherwise leave the battle vulnerable.
  • Karma, trust, and redemption: Shi Feiyang’s account of Zunsheng’s faith gives Shibi hope of a path forward, while Shibi’s pride tests his ability to act with restraint.

Ch. 688Three Oddities of the Cosmos

Plot and events

  • Old Man Cangxu confronts Shibi Old Man with a devastating opening assault. His demon light contains twelve powerful figures, including Patriarch Blazing Fire, Red-Haired Ancestor, and several Western Pole Religion elders.
  • Shibi’s Asura Blood Flame and other defenses are overwhelmed at first. He survives by combining the Five Sacred Peaks, Twelve God-Demons, and Blood Lotus Calyx, but can barely hold his ground.
  • Hearing onlookers praise Shibi for merely withstanding Cangxu, the proud Asura leader takes offense and calls for help. Fire-Spirit Divine Lord answers from afar.
  • Fire-Spirit’s elaborate yin-demon blossoms, vast fire sea, and Thunder Pearls reinforce Shibi’s defenses and enable the pair to counterattack.
  • Cangxu responds by unleashing the Heavenly Demon Star River and ordering all twelve figures in his demon light to fight. Patriarch Blazing Fire challenges Fire-Spirit with a demonic fire formation and sword, while Red-Haired Ancestor attacks Shibi’s Five Sacred Peaks. The Western Pole elders try to displace the peaks.
  • Shang Heyang and Green-Robed Ancestor initially hesitate, but Cangxu angrily orders them into battle. They join in, attacking the Five Sacred Peaks with skulls and an enormous emerald hand. The fight remains unresolved at the chapter’s end.

Character developments and interactions

  • Old Man Cangxu is revealed as far more formidable than in the past, though his mind is impaired. His demon-light host includes captives and former allies bound to him in different ways; Poison Dragon’s presence is already fading after he switched allegiance to Shi Feiyang.
  • Shibi Old Man remains proud and competitive despite knowing he cannot defeat Cangxu alone. His appeal to Fire-Spirit shows both his willingness to seek help and his strategic effort to build ties around Shi Feiyang.
  • Fire-Spirit Divine Lord emerges from long seclusion after a tragic past: failed ascension, the loss of his wife, and the deaths or departure of his concubines left him withdrawn. Shibi’s invitation brings him back into the conflict.
  • Shang Heyang and Green-Robed Ancestor are treated by Cangxu as unruly grandsons. Green-Robed has undermined Shang Heyang through constant slander, and both comply only after Cangxu’s angry command.
  • The battle pits Shibi and Fire-Spirit against Cangxu’s bound contingent, with Patriarch Blazing Fire and Fire-Spirit directly competing through their fire powers.

Significant themes

  • Power and alliances: Even great masters need support against overwhelming opponents; Shibi’s fortunes change when Fire-Spirit joins him.
  • Pride and reputation: Shibi’s competitive spirit is provoked by praise that sounds like an insult.
  • Bondage and divided loyalty: Cangxu’s demon light gathers figures held by life-bonds, sacrifice, imprisonment, or former allegiance, while Poison Dragon’s fading image signals the weakening of old ties.
  • Loss and withdrawal: Fire-Spirit’s history illustrates how grief and failed ambition can drive even a powerful cultivator into isolation.

Ch. 689Great Sage Subduing-Demon Melody vs. Heavenly Secret-Demon Divine Sound

Key plot points and events

  • With Shibi Old Man and Fire-Spirit Divine Lord holding off Cangxu, Shang Heyang, and the Green-Robed Ancestor, Shi Feiyang is free to confront Chiyou.
  • Chiyou’s enormous army of giants and demon beasts threatens the defenders. Shi Feiyang plays the Great Sage Subduing-Demon Melody, whose thunderous, varied music weakens and kills lesser spirits and disrupts the power of ancient demons.
  • The music inspires the immortals to launch a counterattack. Yixiu and Fairy Han lead the charge, while other fighters unleash their strongest weapons and reserves.
  • Chiyou counters with the Twelve-Heavens Secret-Demon Divine Sound, driving the demons into a frenzy and shaking the immortals’ courage. Shi Feiyang raises the melody’s intensity, drowning out Chiyou’s roar, and attacks him with the Haotian Mirror and Purple-Green Tusita Fire.
  • Water Mother Ji Xuan intervenes, using a spell-like manifestation to seize Chiyou’s Hunyuan Mystic Ice and vanish before his divine swords can strike her.
  • Shi Feiyang uses the Haotian Mirror and celestial calculations to suppress Chiyou’s access to other worlds, weakening his Twelve Heavenly Divine Swords. He signals Shi Zhu to attack with the Xuanyuan Sword.
  • Shi Zhu’s nine golden dragons press Chiyou, whose weakened swords shrink and disappear. Enraged, Chiyou recalls his life-bound core and draws a pair of axes.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang shifts from supporting the wider battle to taking command of the struggle against Chiyou. He combines music, treasure, and calculation, and coordinates his tactics with Shi Zhu.
  • Shi Zhu moves from evading Chiyou’s swords to gaining an opening for a direct counterattack.
  • Yixiu and Fairy Han fight as a forceful team: Yixiu charges into the enemy ranks, while Fairy Han follows to protect him and cuts down demons with her weapons.
  • Chiyou responds to his army’s losses with fury, using his demonic sound and weapons, but loses a key advantage when Ji Xuan takes his mystic ice.
  • Water Mother Ji Xuan demonstrates immense power through a brief, indirect intervention, preventing Shi Feiyang from wasting strength in a clash of ice and fire.
  • The immortals’ response to Shi Feiyang’s music shows their trust in his signal and their readiness to fight together.

Significant themes

  • Music as both weapon and inspiration: Shi Feiyang’s melody harms demons while strengthening the defenders’ resolve.
  • Cooperation and coordination: The battle turns through allies holding off enemies, Ji Xuan’s timely aid, and Shi Feiyang’s tactical partnership with Shi Zhu.
  • Power through strategy, not force alone: Suppressing Chiyou’s access to other worlds neutralizes his swords more effectively than simply meeting them head-on.
  • Momentum and resilience: Both armies suffer fear and setbacks, but the defenders rally and seize the initiative.

Ch. 690Slaying Chiyou

Key events

  • With Chiyou’s Hunyuan Mystic Ice taken and his Lesser Twelve Heavenly Divine Swords suppressed, he relies on his twin axes, life-bound core, and an ancient demon-beast banner.
  • The banner blocks the Haotian Treasure Mirror and its flames, letting Chiyou escape and attack Shi Zhu. Shi Feiyang destroys it with the Suiren Fire Drill, restoring the mirror’s hold over the battlefield.
  • Shi Feiyang tracks Chiyou from above while Shi Zhu pursues him. A barrier of primordial qi prevents Chiyou from breaking through the Great Wall to reach populated regions.
  • At the Eastern Sea, Chiyou is trapped between two apparent Shi Zhus. One is the Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon in disguise, whose demon swords briefly pass as the Xuanyuan Swords. Chiyou is deceived and overwhelmed by the real Shi Zhu and the demon’s nine forms.
  • Chiyou’s life-bound core draws in the blood and essence of nearby demons. Shi Feiyang destroys it with the Five-Ding Divine Axe, which can cleave space and prevent the core from regenerating.
  • The core’s destruction sends Chiyou’s stored remnant souls and memories rushing back into him, briefly stunning him. Shi Zhu uses the opening to cut Chiyou into nine pieces and pins them down with the Xuanyuan Swords. Chiyou is still alive and poised to attempt a desperate escape.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang remains the strategic force behind the fight, using different treasures for specific purposes: the Haotian Mirror to track and suppress Chiyou, the Nine Heavens Primordial Yang Ruler to block his route, and the Five-Ding Divine Axe to destroy his core. He also arranges the deception that helps trap Chiyou.
  • Shi Zhu presses the attack relentlessly and proves an effective partner to his master, pursuing Chiyou and striking decisively when the core’s destruction leaves him vulnerable.
  • Chiyou shifts from confidence in his ancient artifacts and escape techniques to desperation as each route is blocked and his defenses fail. Even dismembered, he remains dangerous and refuses to surrender.
  • The Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon demonstrates her skill at transformation and coordinated attack, helping Shi Feiyang and Shi Zhu exploit Chiyou’s blind spot.

Significant themes

  • Strategy over raw power: Chiyou’s strength is steadily undermined by coordinated pursuit, deception, and the careful use of specialized treasures.
  • Limits of escape and control: The mirror’s reach and the barriers around the battlefield turn Chiyou’s usual mobility into a trap.
  • The persistence of evil: Destroying Chiyou’s core and dismembering his body do not finish him; the chapter ends with his survival still a threat.

Ch. 691Slaying Chiyou

Plot and key events

  • Shi Feiyang’s apparent improvisation proves to be a carefully planned trap. With Shi Zhu’s help, he pins Chiyou beneath the Haotian Mirror, divides him into nine pieces with the Xuanyuan Swords, then detonates the Returning-to-Oneness Divine Sound, a rare treasure designed to annihilate Primordial Spirits.
  • The blast destroys Chiyou’s body and shatters his spirit. To prevent the fragments from surviving and eventually re-forming, Shi Feiyang gathers them into the All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Divine Lamp. He recovers much of the treasure’s spent essence qi, though its power is permanently reduced.
  • Shi Zhu joins the battle against Chiyou’s allies. His Xuanyuan Swords overwhelm Shang Heyang, while the combined forces of Shi Zhu, Shibi Old Man, and the Fire-Spirit Divine Lord defeat their opponents. Old Man Cangxu escapes with his two grandsons.
  • Meanwhile, Shi Feiyang’s Great Sage Subduing-Demon Melody turns the tide against the enormous sea beasts attacking the Eastern Sea. When their clashes threaten coastal regions with catastrophic waves, he uses the Haotian Mirror and Nine Heavens Primordial Yang Great Method to drain the Bohai Sea, stranding millions of beasts.
  • Rather than slaughter them, Shi Feiyang offers the creatures safe retreat if they swear not to return to the Central Land’s waters.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang reveals himself as a strategic and pragmatic leader: he prepares secretly, uses overwhelming force against Chiyou, but shows restraint toward the defeated sea beasts.
  • Shi Zhu demonstrates immense strength, though he struggles against Chiyou’s twelve Divine Swords. He is still unaware of his former life as Old Man Withered Bamboo; the Fire-Spirit Divine Lord recognizes the significance of his identity and watches him with surprise. Shi Zhu notices the attention and correctly guesses that the Fire-Spirit is an old acquaintance.
  • Shibi Old Man and the Fire-Spirit Divine Lord coordinate with Shi Zhu against Cangxu’s side. Shibi explains Shi Zhu’s reincarnation to the startled Fire-Spirit.
  • Old Man Cangxu recognizes that the battle is lost and retreats rather than risk being defeated outright.

Significant themes

  • Finality and the cost of power: Chiyou’s destruction requires an exceptionally rare weapon, whose strength diminishes with every use.
  • Memory, identity, and reincarnation: Shi Zhu’s former life shapes others’ perceptions of him even though he has not recovered those memories.
  • Mercy alongside force: Shi Feiyang kills Chiyou to prevent future catastrophe but gives the defeated beasts a chance to withdraw.
  • Changing conditions and survival: The coming age of declining magic will make the sea beasts’ immense size and dependence on supernatural power a threat to their survival.

Ch. 692Ruan Jiu Delivers a Message

Chapter summary

Plot and key events

  • After Chiyou’s death, the surviving demon beasts recognize that defeat is inevitable. Shi Feiyang honors his promise to let them go, reopening the sea route so the greater demons can flee. He expects the Dharma Decline Age to eventually strip them of their powers, though some might survive for a time through cultivation.
  • Shi Feiyang’s forces clear the battlefield, eliminating stubborn beasts, poisonous gu insects, and other lingering dangers. Demonic-path sword immortals also flee. Meanwhile, the Ming armies counterattack the Rong Tribes of the Northern Sea, leaving only a small number of survivors to seek help at Jiang Xuejun’s temple.
  • Jiang Xuejun, trapped in Kunlun’s Thunder City, is badly injured after failing to break through its defenses. Before Shi Feiyang can deal with her, Dharma King Xuanyuan launches a surprise attack and carries her west. Shi Feiyang explains that Xuanyuan sought the portion of the Heavenly Lust Cult Master’s soul within her, not Jiang herself. He believes that she and Xuanyuan will be consumed as the cult master’s spirit reunites—and that the cult master will also need the portion Shi Feiyang possesses.
  • Red Staff Immortal Boy Ruan Jiu arrives with news that Deng Yin has been taken from Mount Tianpeng. Stone God Princess, Chishi Divine Monarch, and Nine-Li Divine Lord gradually exchanged Deng Yin’s body parts and spirit, while Nun Xinru distracted his guardians. Shi Feiyang says Deng Yin’s willingness to leave mattered more than the guardians’ failure.
  • With the Earth Calamity and Mortal Tribulation past, Shi Feiyang gathers the immortals in the capital to prepare for the approaching Heavenly Tribulation and Dharma Decline Age. He warns that collective Demon Tribulations could spread fear, anger, and other inner demons among them.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang acts as both strategist and leader: he spares the defeated demons, refuses to blame Kunlun or Red Staff for their losses, and accepts responsibility for guiding the immortals through what comes next. His remarks reveal regret over having deceived Deng Yin in a past life.
  • Jiang Xuejun remains proud and combative, but her confidence cannot overcome Kunlun’s formation. Her decision to leave with Xuanyuan puts her own identity at risk.
  • Dharma King Xuanyuan reveals his self-serving purpose through his rescue: he wants the soul-fragment inside Jiang Xuejun as part of the Heavenly Lust Cult Master’s restoration.
  • Ruan Jiu and Red Staff are distressed by Deng Yin’s disappearance. Red Staff angrily vows to confront Nun Xinru, while Shi Feiyang counsels against assigning blame.
  • The Kunlun immortals look to Shi Feiyang for both judgment and guidance; he reassures them after Jiang’s escape and then turns their attention to the larger coming crisis.

Significant themes

  • Responsibility and leadership: Shi Feiyang must make decisions for many people and prepare them for threats beyond the immediate battle.
  • Agency and consequence: Deng Yin’s cooperation made his removal possible; Jiang Xuejun’s choice to go with Xuanyuan may cost her her identity.
  • Mercy and restraint: Shi Feiyang allows the defeated demons to escape, judging that extermination is unnecessary.
  • Preparation for inner and collective struggle: The coming Demon Tribulation is dangerous not only because of outside forces, but because one person’s negative emotions can infect an entire group.
  • Decline and impermanence: The approaching Dharma Decline Age threatens the magical order itself, making survival and adaptation the central challenge.

Ch. 693The Wandering Divine Mountain

Summary

Key plot points and events

  • With the shifting Earth’s Axis and the Purple Tenuity Star changing masters, Earth’s immortals face an exceptional Great Heavenly Tribulation. Shi Feiyang’s allies have already prevented both a supervolcano disaster and the mortal catastrophe caused by Chiyou and the Rong tribes.
  • Shi Feiyang warns that a Great Demon Tribulation will strike before the Dharma Decline Age, and that most Sword Immortals will not survive it. When spiritual energy eventually fades, ascension will become nearly impossible, and the coming Dharma Extinction Age will sever the mortal and immortal realms for at least a century.
  • Shi Feiyang urges several powerful immortals—including Mr. Zhong, Revered One Heavenly Pool, and Jiang Shu—to ascend before it is too late. Jiang Shu refuses, choosing to face the calamity alongside his people.
  • Seeking a way to protect those unable to ascend, Shi Feiyang proposes moving Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain—a fragment of the Lingkong Immortal Realm—back to the Upper Realm. The others doubt this can be done. As a fallback, they agree that they may jointly create a cave heaven and shelter there for a thousand years.
  • Shi Feiyang begins organizing the relocation of willing immortals and their communities to the mountain. Vibration Mountain Divine Lord supports him first; others follow, while Emei and Kunlun hesitate over whether to join or make separate plans.
  • Shi Feiyang warns Golden Cicada that Deng Yin has escaped, joined forces with the Stone God Princess, and is targeting both Shi Feiyang and the Emei Sect. Golden Cicada hurries home to alert his father.
  • Jiang Shu commits to bringing the Green City Sect to the mountain, viewing his duty to its disciples as the best way to honor his departed masters.
  • Third Phoenix and her sisters agree to move the Purple Cloud Palace, and Shi Feiyang promises to transport it from its dangerous location in the South Sea—an undertaking that astonishes everyone.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang emerges as the central organizer and protector. He candidly admits that his grand plan may fail, but offers several possible paths and starts practical preparations rather than leaving others without hope.
  • Jiang Shu chooses loyalty to his sect and fellow immortals over the chance to ascend. He misses his masters but believes he must remain responsible for the lineage and disciples he established.
  • Vibration Mountain Divine Lord eagerly demonstrates renewed loyalty to Shi Feiyang after their past conflict and reconciliation.
  • Mr. Zhong and Revered One Heavenly Pool face a difficult choice: ascend while they can, or stay to help the Kunlun Sect prepare for the coming age.
  • The Emei Sect and Kunlun Sect are cautious about living under another group’s roof. Emei considers acting independently, while Kunlun weighs whether its leaders can sacrifice ascension to help create its own refuge.
  • Golden Cicada is shaken by news of Deng Yin’s escape and responds urgently to Shi Feiyang’s warning.
  • Third Phoenix and her sisters worry about losing the Purple Cloud Palace, while Shi Feiyang’s offer to move it gives them a way to preserve their home.

Significant themes

  • Duty versus personal salvation: Several immortals must choose between ascending alone and remaining responsible for their disciples, sects, or companions.
  • Cooperation in the face of catastrophe: The looming tribulations make collective preparation essential, even as sects struggle with independence and trust.
  • Uncertainty and hope: Shi Feiyang’s plan is unprecedented and may be impossible, yet he gives the immortals options rather than surrendering to disaster.
  • Leadership and responsibility: His warnings, relocation plans, and willingness to take on difficult tasks establish him as a leader others increasingly rely on.

Ch. 694Debt

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang organizes the relocation of immortal palaces, islands, and mountains to Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain ahead of the coming Dharma Decline Age, when spiritual treasures may lose their power.
  • Third Phoenix and Shao Dongxiu negotiate the move of Purple Cloud Palace. They bargain its price down from five billion to 3.8 billion Dragon Coins, paying with supplies, savings, and borrowed money. Shi Feiyang assigns Origin Alligator and Dao Soldiers to carry out the work.
  • Many other immortals seek to preserve their homes. Those unable to pay may borrow from Shi Feiyang, lease their relocated islands, or abandon their abodes and move in alone. Shi Feiyang’s preservation effort also creates debts and long-term obligations.
  • Master Tianchi’s Copper Coconut Island is moved and connected to a new magnetic-energy vein. Purple Cloud Palace is installed nearby beneath the Central Sea.
  • Shi Feiyang proceeds region by region, relocating numerous South Sea holdings, then Western Sea sites including Lizhu Palace and part of Mount Damei. He promises Divine Lord Lesser Yang that he will try to recover Old Man Cangxu so he can be reincarnated.
  • In the Eastern Sea, Shi Feiyang moves Great Roc Bay, a place from his own past, and reunites with old acquaintances such as the Little Musk Spirit. He also relocates two Rocs there.
  • Yu Wa joins Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain after deciding not to rebuild her damaged West Nether Island or take on debt. Frostglow Immortal Maiden Wen Liangyu and Gourd Granny Pei E are preparing to ascend, leaving their possessions to Ding Chang and Gan Biwu.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang combines practical planning with preservation: he protects valuable spiritual places and treasures, while financing the work through payments, loans, and leases. He also shows personal affection for Master Tianchi, improving the magnetic site for him, and for Great Roc Bay, which recalls his youth.
  • Third Phoenix and Shao Dongxiu demonstrate their business skill by negotiating a lower price and quickly rebuilding trade connections after moving.
  • Master Tianchi cares above all about keeping Copper Coconut Island and its whales intact; Liu He, who shares his attachment to whales, intervenes in the loan negotiations to secure better terms.
  • Divine Lord Lesser Yang is deeply grateful for the rebuilding of Lizhu Palace and Shi Feiyang’s promise regarding Old Man Cangxu.
  • The Whale-Riding Guest and Cui Haike accept a lease arrangement rather than lose their islands, praising Shi Feiyang’s generosity.
  • The Little Musk Spirit is terrified when its home is moved, then overjoyed to discover Shi Feiyang is responsible. The relocated Rocs are reluctant but accept their new habitat.

Significant themes

  • Preserving heritage against decline: The relocations protect spiritual landscapes, unique resources, and immortal culture from the coming age of diminished magic.
  • Generosity intertwined with obligation: Shi Feiyang’s aid saves homes, but it also involves debt, rent, and centuries of service.
  • Attachment to home and living things: Characters’ choices reveal their bonds to islands, palaces, whales, and other creatures.
  • Commerce as a means of survival: Trade and financial negotiation become essential tools for preserving the immortal world.

Ch. 695Shi Sheng's ascension

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang continues reshaping Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain. He plans to make it larger and eventually spherical, create a cold region for species from the Northern Sea, establish a realm of the dead and reincarnation, and develop the mountain into a grotto-heaven world.
  • Jinxu Nu slowly expands the mountain by refining energy from the sun, moon, planets, and stars. Shi Feiyang worries that growth is too slow to finish before the Dharma Decline Age.
  • Divination warns Shi Feiyang that someone close to him may betray him in the future. Unable to identify the person, he tightens control: only he may approve newcomers to the mountain.
  • Xiong Manniang and Shi Sheng, having completed their cultivation, ascend to the heavens. Xiong Manniang asks Shi Feiyang to help her former companions Luo Ziyan and Xiao Shijiu if they need it; he agrees. Shi Sheng struggles emotionally with leaving his master and fellow disciples, especially Lin Han.
  • Xiong Manniang ascends through corpse liberation, leaving a corpse; Shi Sheng ascends as a true-yang-spirit Heavenly Immortal, leaving an immortal husk. Their physical remains are burned and returned to nature.
  • Shi Feiyang uses their shared Heavenly Heart Ring to test whether communication between the mortal and immortal realms is possible. Concerned that contacting Shi Sheng might violate heavenly law and endanger him, he waits. More than three months later, the ring warms and Shi Sheng’s thoughts come through, calling for his master.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang is ambitious and forward-looking, planning several ways to secure Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain’s future. His concern about a hidden betrayal also makes him increasingly cautious and protective.
  • Xiong Manniang shows gratitude and humility, recognizing the limits of her own aptitude. Her farewell reflects lingering affection for Luo Ziyan and Xiao Shijiu despite past conflicts.
  • Shi Sheng reveals strong emotional attachment to Shi Feiyang and his companions. Though reluctant to leave, he ascends because his mother is in the heavens.
  • Shi Feiyang and his disciples share a close bond: he personally guards the ascension, grants Xiong Manniang’s request, and reassures Shi Sheng. Fellow disciples gather to bid the pair farewell.

Significant themes

  • Ambition and transformation: Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain is being remade into a self-sustaining world, with its own climate, life, and afterlife.
  • Caution amid uncertainty: Shi Feiyang’s unexplained betrayal prophecy and his restraint around heavenly laws show the risks of acting without full knowledge.
  • Affection and parting: The ascensions test the bonds between master, disciples, and companions, while the Heavenly Heart Ring offers hope of continued connection.
  • Different paths to immortality: Xiong Manniang’s corpse-liberation and Shi Sheng’s true-yang-spirit ascension illustrate unequal levels of attainment and the physical cost of transcendence.

Ch. 696Immortal Official Shi Sheng

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang successfully uses the Heavenly Heart Ring to contact Shi Sheng, first ruling out the possibility that the message is an illusion or deception.
  • Shi Sheng reports that, after ascending, he was appointed a superintendent at the Langhuan Library. He now manages a repository, with twelve stewards and eighty-eight Heavenly Guards, and has his own residence.
  • Shi Sheng has reunited with his mother, Lu Rongbo, and visited Perfected Bliss. Lu Rongbo and Xiong Manniang received lower-ranking posts under the White Emperor; Perfected Bliss serves the Azure Emperor.
  • Shi Sheng shares political intelligence: the current Emperor Ziwei is seeking another term, while the Azure Emperor is building merit in preparation to challenge him. The Azure Emperor is also facing accusations that he violated the ban on immortals forming families by fathering a son—an accusation he admits, while arguing the relationship was karmic and that he showed no favoritism.
  • Shi Feiyang learns that the Immortal Realm spans many worlds and that ascending or descending is difficult because beings’ bodies are suited to different levels of spiritual purity. Heavenly immortals who descend risk losing rank and suffering tribulations; those who bring lower-realm beings upward may violate the Heavenly Laws and face execution.
  • After ending the risky communication, Shi Feiyang considers how to move Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain and its inhabitants out of the lower realm before the Dharma Decline Age. He resolves to pursue three options at once: ascend to the Heavenly Realm, move to another world, or create an independent cave-heaven refuge.

Character developments

  • Shi Sheng proves both capable and devoted: without prompting, he chooses a library post that may help Shi Feiyang pursue knowledge, while carefully gathering information for him. He remains innocent in manner but perceptive and clever.
  • Shi Feiyang gains a clearer understanding of the Heavenly Realm and shifts from speculation to strategic planning. Though wary of Heaven’s power, he draws confidence from examples of strong lower-realm cultivators and decides not to rely on a single escape plan.
  • Lu Rongbo shows principled restraint, refusing special treatment from her son on the grounds that favoritism would undermine the Heavenly Laws.
  • The Azure Emperor emerges as a powerful political contender whose past attachment to a mortal child has become a vulnerability in the succession struggle.

Significant themes

  • Duty versus personal bonds: Lu Rongbo’s refusal of preferential treatment reflects the tension between family affection and impartial law.
  • Power and politics: The succession contest and accusations against the Azure Emperor show how personal history can become political ammunition.
  • Natural law and cosmic order: The different spiritual “constitutions” of heavenly and earthly beings make travel between realms difficult, while the Heavenly Laws impose further limits.
  • Preparation amid uncertainty: Shi Feiyang responds to the coming Dharma Decline by developing several possible paths rather than betting everything on one.

Character interactions

  • Shi Feiyang and Shi Sheng exchange a long, confidential mental conversation, balancing their affection and trust against the danger of being discovered.
  • Shi Sheng’s concern for his master is expressed through his choice of post and the intelligence he gathers.
  • Lu Rongbo gently but firmly rejects Shi Sheng’s offer to house and support her, explaining her commitment to fairness.
  • Perfected Bliss welcomes Shi Sheng, asks after Shi Feiyang, and rewards him, reinforcing the connections between the newly ascended and those remaining below.

Ch. 697A Gaze of Venomous Hatred

Plot and events

  • Shi Feiyang continues transforming Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain into a self-sustaining world. He builds its magnetic defenses, reshapes its earth veins into a circulating system of heat and air, and has Red Snake and hundreds of thousands of Dao Soldiers create a vast network of Heavenly One True Water springs.
  • With help from resident immortals and independent cultivators, he organizes the work. Meanwhile, Black Tortoise leads another large force in making 360 All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Shuttles—more than the estimated minimum needed to propel the mountain into the Lingkong Immortal Realm.
  • The shuttle project requires complex Daoist and demonic techniques. Shi assigns the Daoist procedures to various immortals and recruits the Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon for the demonic work.
  • The nine Child Demons complain about Shi and threaten to eat him. When a Loose Immortal challenges them, their gaze nearly overwhelms his soul, prompting alarm among the Sword Immortals. Their mothers restrain them, and Lingxuzi advises his disciples not to act rashly.
  • Shi arrives after sensing the demons’ agitation. The Child Demons instantly pretend to be diligent and obedient, and Lai’er proudly shows him his refined fiendfire. Shi praises him, while privately recognizing the danger behind his apparent submission.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi emerges as a powerful organizer, coordinating specialists, Dao Soldiers, and cultivators to reshape the mountain on an immense scale. He also understands the psychological and karmic risks of his own demons.
  • The Nine Child Demons shift abruptly from vicious threats to childlike obedience around Shi. Their mothers, though courteous to outsiders, firmly control them; Lai’er is especially dangerous and resentful.
  • Lai’er’s hostility has a karmic source: he would have been the son of Qian Kang and his wife, both killed by Shi. Unable to be born to them, he entered Shi’s demon embryo, and his instinctive hatred reflects that unresolved connection.
  • Lingxuzi acts cautiously, discouraging Yang Li and the others from confronting the demons before they understand the situation. The Loose Immortal’s encounter shows how vulnerable even cultivators can be to the Child Demons’ power.

Significant themes

  • Creation through collective effort: Building a living world demands vast resources, specialized knowledge, and cooperation.
  • Power’s hidden cost: Demon Heads offer great strength and utility, but bind their master to their evil deeds and may become an enduring karmic burden.
  • Appearance versus reality: The Child Demons’ adorable looks and sudden obedience conceal genuine malice.
  • Karma and unintended consequences: Shi’s past actions have shaped Lai’er’s resentment, suggesting that demonic power may ultimately turn back on its creator.

Ch. 698Red Lotus Hell

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang establishes Red Lotus Hell inside Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain, using its concentrated turbid yin to contain the mountain’s impurities while keeping them away from the nearby Pure Yang True Fire.
  • He expands the material Red Lotus Small World and fuses it with the All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Divine Lamp. A Ghost Gate and the Human Sovereign Soul-Guiding Banner ensure the souls of Yu Kingdom subjects return there after death, even if they die far away or their bodies and souls are badly damaged.
  • Hell’s system divides judgment and afterlife into rewards, punishment, and eventual reincarnation. Good deeds earn time in a pleasure realm; evil deeds require service under Venerable Poison Dragon. Souls may reincarnate once their evil karma is fully expiated, though the most irredeemable are confined to the fire prison forever.
  • Revered One Yideng, with Venerable Five Obscenities and Venerable Poison Dragon, administers the system. Yideng has spent years redeeming more than two hundred thousand demons through a vast scripture, the Celestial Venerable Primordial Yang’s Sutra for Delivering Demons.
  • Shi Feiyang makes a bargain with the Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon: her nine children may eat one indefinitely condemned demon each year, provided they copy the sutra in their own blood after every meal.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang shows himself as both a powerful creator and a caretaker: rather than abandon the people and beings under his protection, he devises a way to preserve their souls and carry the mountain’s yin with them.
  • Yideng has transformed from a tormentor of demons into their teacher and judge, dedicating himself to their redemption and refining his scripture through practice.
  • The nine young demons are thrilled at last to be allowed to eat demons, but their feast comes with a spiritual obligation intended to guide them toward goodness.

Significant themes

  • Justice and redemption: Good and evil are counted separately; punishment may be temporary, while redemption remains possible for most.
  • Protection and responsibility: Shi Feiyang’s plans are shaped by loyalty to those who have relied on him, especially the people of the Yu Kingdom.
  • Transformation through discipline: Even demonic appetite can be directed toward moral change through the sutra and its practice.
  • The balance of yin and yang: Shi Feiyang uses the opposition of turbid yin and pure yang not simply to destroy one side, but to stabilize a larger system.

Character interactions

  • Shi Feiyang entrusts Yideng and the two venerables with running the afterlife, reflecting his confidence in Yideng’s rehabilitation work.
  • Yideng’s sermons praise Shi Feiyang’s compassion and present the scripture as a rare chance for demons to change.
  • Shi Feiyang sets firm conditions for the Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon’s children, turning their new freedom to feed into a path toward eventual reform.

Ch. 699The Azure Emperor's Son

Plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang establishes the Red Lotus Hell as a home for demonic ghosts and soul beings, while the Nine-Child Mother Heavenly Demon and her nine demon children continue helping refine the All-Heavens Stellar Mystic-Demon Shuttle. The children are delighted by their new place in Hell, and their contagious happiness spreads through the surrounding region.
  • Shi Feiyang organizes Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain into regions for cultivation, settlement, and seclusion. He welcomes wandering cultivators and arranges new homes for several sects.
  • The Green City Sect establishes Heaven Beyond Qingcheng Mountain under Jiang Shu’s leadership. His disciple Chen Taizhen oversees an ambitious construction project, hiring powerful demons and showing remarkable skill as both an organizer and businessman.
  • The Snow Mountain Sect prepares to ascend. Ling Hun and Cui Wugu withdraw into seclusion, leaving Liu Quan to lead the sect and move its people to Great Snow Mountain.
  • Shi Zhu is sent to retrieve the belongings of his previous life from Trackless Ridge, with Shi Feiyang warning him not to engage with Divine Lord Giant Wood, the Azure Emperor’s son.
  • At his old cave, Shi Zhu finds familiar surroundings and old formations, but his sealed memories remain just out of reach. He packs his possessions while Giant Wood watches from nearby.
  • Giant Wood tries to draw Shi Zhu into conversation and invites him to a feast. When Shi Zhu ignores him, Giant Wood traps the valley in a tightening ring of azure force, threatening to crush it. Shi Zhu responds with the Six Roots Purity Bamboo. The chapter ends as their opposing attacks are poised to meet.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates his growing authority by creating a structured realm and accommodating multiple sects and communities.
  • Chen Taizhen emerges as an especially capable leader, combining practical judgment, construction skill, and business talent.
  • Liu Quan accepts responsibility for the Snow Mountain Sect and vows to fulfill his teachers’ hopes.
  • Shi Zhu remains disciplined and obeys Shi Feiyang’s warning, despite the emotional pull of his former home and Giant Wood’s provocation.
  • Divine Lord Giant Wood is revealed as powerful but resentful: he feels rejected by his father, the Azure Emperor, and bitter toward the Heavenly Laws that forbid gods from loving, marrying, and having children.

Significant themes

  • Community and belonging: Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain becomes a refuge where sects and cultivators can settle and build new lives.
  • Order balanced with freedom: Shi Feiyang assigns regions and responsibilities while allowing groups to establish their own homes and traditions.
  • Memory and identity: Shi Zhu’s familiar old home stirs memories that he cannot fully recover.
  • Power and restraint: Shi Zhu tries to avoid conflict, but Giant Wood’s pride and coercion force him to defend himself.
  • Love versus divine duty: Giant Wood questions a heavenly order that separates immortals from family bonds, arguing that compassion for all is difficult without love for one’s own.

Character interactions

  • Shi Feiyang works with Jiang Shu and other sect leaders to arrange their relocation, while his warning to Shi Zhu frames the coming confrontation.
  • Chen Taizhen manages the Green City Sect’s move with the help of hired demons, sparing his junior disciples unnecessary labor.
  • Ling Hun and Cui Wugu entrust the Snow Mountain Sect to Liu Quan before withdrawing from public life.
  • Giant Wood repeatedly addresses Shi Zhu, first courteously and then angrily, interpreting his silence as disrespect. Shi Zhu’s refusal to engage ends in an attack that forces him to fight back.

Ch. 700A visit to the Divine Wood Palace

Key plot points and events

  • Following Shi Feiyang’s warning, Shi Zhu tries to avoid provoking Divine Lord Giant Wood. Giant Wood attacks anyway, and the two clash.
  • Giant Wood expects to exploit weaknesses in Shi Zhu’s old, unorthodox techniques, but finds that Shi Zhu now practices the Orthodox Mystic Sect’s methods. His defenses are seamless, strengthened by the restored Six Roots Purity Bamboo, and he withstands Giant Wood’s Seven-Kill Rings.
  • Shi Zhu says he plans to leave Wuzhong Ridge forever and offers Giant Wood the ridge and his cave abode. Giant Wood insists he visit the Divine Wood Palace for a farewell banquet. Shi Zhu agrees, partly to avoid making a powerful enemy and partly out of curiosity.
  • Before departing, Shi Zhu gathers his possessions, plants, herbs, and beloved bamboos. He briefly feels the sadness of leaving, then reminds himself not to let attachment to worldly things bind his Dao heart.
  • At the hidden, living-wood palace, Shi Zhu meets a powerful woman he does not recognize. Giant Wood reveals that she is Lu Yu, a former rival of Old Man Withered Bamboo.
  • Lu Yu and Giant Wood comment on Shi Zhu’s sealed memories and changed temperament. Lu Yu mocks him for no longer resembling his fierce former self. Shi Zhu stays calm and asks Giant Wood why he summoned him.

Character developments

  • Shi Zhu shows the practical strength of his new cultivation and a more composed, self-controlled temperament. Though he knows he could recover his past-life memories, he refuses to break the seal out of respect for Shi Feiyang and concern that doing so would revive old faults.
  • Divine Lord Giant Wood is surprised by how much Shi Zhu’s techniques have changed and persistently presses him to attend the banquet, suggesting that his invitation has a purpose beyond simple courtesy.
  • Lu Yu appears to harbor lasting resentment toward Shi Zhu’s former incarnation and takes pleasure in his apparent gentleness and inability to recognize her.

Significant themes

  • Transformation and the past: Shi Zhu’s new methods and temperament sharply contrast with Old Man Withered Bamboo’s former life.
  • Self-discipline and memory: Shi Zhu treats the sealed memories as a beneficial safeguard, choosing not to reclaim them even though he could.
  • Freedom from attachment: His farewell to the valley emphasizes the ideal of moving through the world without being bound by possessions or sentiment.
  • Power and restraint: Shi Zhu can defend himself, but chooses diplomacy to avoid turning a neighbor into a dangerous enemy.

Character interactions

  • Shi Zhu and Giant Wood move from a brief magical duel to a tense but civil exchange; their long history as neighbors and former trading partners tempers their hostility.
  • Giant Wood’s insistence on the visit contrasts with Shi Zhu’s desire to leave, creating the chapter’s central tension.
  • At the banquet, Lu Yu’s taunts test Shi Zhu’s restraint. His calm response surprises both her and Giant Wood, who questions whether Shi Zhu can tolerate her insults.
