Background / History

Childhood in the Third Era

Lin Feng grew up in the Mortal Realm’s Great Li Dynasty under an elderly adoptive guardian. The dynasty collapsed into famine, warfare, and blood sacrifices as its emperor pursued an “immortal opportunity.” Spiritual energy was so scarce that even entering the Embryonic Breath Realm was ordinarily unattainable 411.

After his guardian was killed, starving refugees nearly ate the ten-year-old Lin Feng. Hateful Monk rescued him and sheltered him in a ruined temple. Lin Feng questioned whether a Buddha who permitted such suffering could truly exist, while the monk refused to harm others for food 411.

Before dying, Hateful Monk urged Lin Feng to eat his flesh and survive. Lin Feng initially retched but ultimately complied. The experience intensified his hatred of his own weakness, the emperor, and cultivators who preyed upon ordinary people 413.

Qingyang True Person then offered him a place in the Greenwood Sect. Lin Feng recognized Qingyang’s connection to the disaster, while Chen Fan, observing the painted reconstruction, identified the encounter as a scheme targeting Lin Feng’s Heaven’s Mandate. Before the painting shattered under Lin Feng’s surging hatred, Qingyang claimed that he was also a victim and that a Golden Core True Lord had caused the events 413.

Beyond Heaven and the Buddha Ancestor

Lin Feng eventually created Beyond Heaven’s thirty-three layers, each constituting a realm and a Dao. Their highest boundary reaches between existence and nonexistence. His rise earned him the title Supreme Dao Immortal Venerable and the reputation of being unrivaled throughout history 472 607.

He deliberately sent a fragment of his true spirit through ten thousand lifetimes, erasing its original imprint and severing its karmic connection to him. This allowed it to survive as the Buddha Ancestor even within a Dream Realm that had erased Lin Feng’s existence. Its rise was carefully arranged around Emperor Zhenwu’s demon-suppression campaign 146.

The design changed when hidden beings interfered with Lin Feng’s original body and the incarnation’s suppressed Time Shepherding activated. Lin Feng states that he assimilated its future self and later destroyed its present self, including its Dao lineage and path of return. His account leaves the remaining temporal complications unresolved 146.

Appearance

  • Usual appearance: A fair-faced, refined scholar, typically holding and gently waving a fan 60 507.
  • Clothing: Appears in blue scholar’s robes when revealing himself to Chen Fan’s remaining true spirit; white robes are described during the later temporal conflict 163 612.
  • Fans: Uses both a folding fan and a feather fan in different appearances 31 73 163.
  • Buddha Ancestor form: A gaunt old monk in a kasaya with one shoulder bare; this form transforms into his scholarly appearance before Chen Fan 163.

Personality

Lin Feng is warm, teasing, and unusually tolerant toward Chen Fan. He notices the junior’s guardedness without demanding disclosure of his Golden Finger’s mechanics, and repeatedly accepts karmic punishment while helping him. Chen Fan regards his presence as a powerful source of reassurance 30 60 123.

His relaxed manner coexists with extreme confidence in battle. He openly belittles opponents whose abilities he has understood, yet recognizes ingenuity when it genuinely threatens his position. Wang Hao’s coordinated scheme makes him cautious and earns his explicit admiration 607 608.

Lin Feng is also a guarded strategist. He withholds dangerous historical knowledge and has engineered entire lives to serve long-term plans. A disciple’s accusation that he treated their suffering as necessary sacrifices receives no answer, complicating his otherwise protective relationship with Chen Fan 146 150.

Abilities & Skills

Beyond Heaven

Beyond Heaven, also called Heaven Beyond Heaven, is Lin Feng’s Void-Proven Fruit Position, cultivation ground, and foundation. It is described as one of two transcendent powers spanning the heavens and myriad worlds 33 220.

  • Thirty-three layers: Each layer is a realm and a Dao, with the summit bordering existence and nonexistence 607.
  • Attack suppression: Erases the Heavenly Court Lord’s fruit-position manifestations and life-bound divine abilities 389.
  • Imprint armies: Manifests thousands of Immortal Venerable imprint-phantoms whose attacks exceed those of their original counterparts 603.
  • Dao Fruit containment: Weakens and seals the outward power of Past Li Ping’s Supreme Primordial Unity Sage Dao Fruit without destroying its undying origin 607.
  • World replacement: Can replace the present world and ascend in rank to withstand a higher-dimensional attack 612.
  • Limit: Rank ascension requires an anchor to preserve Lin Feng’s direction; Wang Hao disrupts it by bringing down the Higher-Dimensional Land 612.

Time Shepherding

Lin Feng’s life-bound divine ability manipulates his own existence across time. Its initial explanation uses his present self as the sole anchor for past and future selves, with a stated range of one complete era 73.

  • Temporal intervention: Sends other versions of himself into different timelines to confront enemies 73.
  • Power restoration: His future self can merge with a weakened manifestation and restore substantially greater strength 220.
  • Future observation: Claims to inspect every future, using that knowledge to identify Li Ping’s Golden Finger and colorful entries 603 604.
  • Possible-future attacks: Can reach a possible future, use that future to suppress an enemy, and have his self within it attack 393.
  • Historical alteration: Changes “the past of the past,” erasing higher-dimensional attackers before their intervention can occur 614.
  • Cost and risk: Temporal interference provokes karmic punishment; during the coordinated conflict, the backlash becomes strong enough to threaten him 603 612.

Golden Finger Nullification

Lin Feng possesses a Golden Finger whose taboo name is not disclosed. He associates Beyond Heaven with the ability to nullify Golden Finger powers 528 604.

  • Suppresses Otherworldly Demons’ Golden Fingers and cancels Li Ping’s Golden Finger-derived Cause-Reversal 528 604.
  • Its incomplete form can disable only abilities that have not already been activated at the relevant point in time. Wang Hao exploits this restriction by securing an outcome in advance 528.
  • Does not simply erase the genuinely existing realms carried by True Heaven and True Eighteen Levels of Hell 617.
  • Li Ping’s Supreme Primordial Unity Sage Dao Fruit interrupts the earlier nullification effect, forcing Lin Feng to answer with his own Dao Fruit 604 606.

Supreme Primordial Unity Dao Fruit

Lin Feng manifests a Supreme Primordial Unity Dao Fruit to counter Past Li Ping’s apparently absolute power. Their clash operates beyond conventional dimensions and temporal order, rewriting reality and its laws 606.

  • Uses Time Shepherding to manifest a second matching Dao Fruit 607.
  • Combines his Dao Fruit’s superior authority with Beyond Heaven’s suppression to defeat Li Ping’s usable power 607.
  • Later dominates Li Ping and Nine Heavens despite their two opposing Dao Fruits confronting his one 616.

Divine Ability Deployment and Rule Alteration

Lin Feng can deploy other cultivators’ abilities through Beyond Heaven and alter a realm’s rules directly 421 617.

  • Twin Blossoms: Wields his second disciple’s life-bound ability to create countless lesser realms that obstruct and bombard Heaven and Hell 617.
  • Copying restriction: These replicas lack the originals’ quality of “truth”; Twin Blossoms cannot reproduce the two genuine realms themselves 617.
  • Extraction: Pulls Li Ping out of the protecting realms into Beyond Heaven and annihilates him, although their continued existence enables his resurrection 617.
  • Rule alteration: While confined to a painting, issues a command that disperses observers, changes the True Realm’s rules, and stops a rift from expanding 421.

Divination, Karmic Protection, and Treasure Crafting

  • Divination: Investigates identities, schemes, and threats, though probing significant causes triggers heavenly lightning or karmic-law punishment 30 509.
  • Protective intervention: Bears backlash for Chen Fan and blocks punishment severe enough to annihilate a Heavenly Venerable 31 75.
  • Indirect guidance: Frames information about treasures in the past as “legends,” reducing the danger of direct historical disclosure 31 87.
  • Treasure creation: Fuses three treasures into the Supreme Limitless Dharma Seal 35.
  • Cultivation-system expertise: Had worked on resolving cultivation-system problems and later helps Chen Fan address the pitfalls of limit-breaking 670 696.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Folding fan / feather fan — His characteristic accessory and a combat instrument. His feather fan can become a sky-covering barrier against Nine Heavens and a Spirit Transformation Dao Master 31 73.
  • Spacetime Token — Uses the token to converse with Chen Fan across eras. Explains that odd-numbered activations reach the past and even-numbered activations reach the future, and that it exceeds Spirit Transformation Dao Master-level treasures 39 60 670.
  • Heavenly Mystery Creation Jade Butterfly — Also called the Heavenly Secret Creation Jade Butterfly. Once belonged to a fallen close friend; Lin Feng has Chen Qingyan bury it for Chen Fan. It conceals fate and later protects Chen Fan from karmic punishment 31 32 39.
  • Golden talisman — Left alongside the Jade Butterfly. Fully awakens the artifact, granting five years of concealment from heavenly and karmic detection below the Dao Master level 87 88.
  • Supreme Limitless Dharma Seal — A True Treasure he created for Chen Qingyan by combining three treasures. Its Rewind ability has limited uses and cannot reliably escape Nascent Soul True Lords’ notice 35.
  • Light placed in Chen Fan’s sea of consciousness — A final aid left by his future self before dissipating, following a warning about the obstacle at fifty thousand limit-breaking layers 696.

Relationships

  • Chen Fan — Fellow transmigrator, protected junior, and “young successor.” Lin Feng provides treasures, guidance, and direct intervention, eventually forcing Wang Hao to accept a contract forbidding harm or schemes against him 30 123 387 696.
  • Chen Qingyan — Third disciple. Buries the Jade Butterfly on Lin Feng’s orders, later guards it and awaits Chen Fan; Lin Feng also arranged his acquisition of Hidden Dragon in the Abyss through an exchange 31 32 206 240.
  • Venerable Lord of Yin-Yang Authority — Second disciple and original holder of Twin Blossoms. Explicitly identifies Lin Feng as his master and the Third Era’s Otherworldly Demon 472 617.
  • Eternal Pole Dao Venerable — Member of Lin Feng’s disciple circle; his Creation from Nothing is among the top-ranked titled life-bound divine abilities 402.
  • Bajie — Disciple whom Lin Feng initially calls to handle the Jade Butterfly mission. Chen Qingyan arrives instead because Bajie has gone to the Supreme True Realm 31.
  • Hateful Monk — Childhood rescuer and companion. His final sacrifice allows Lin Feng to survive starvation 411 413.
  • Qingyang True Person — Greenwood Sect master who offers to teach the young Lin Feng. Connected to the disaster surrounding him, though Qingyang claims the ultimate instigator was a Golden Core True Lord 413.
  • Buddha Ancestor — Incarnation originating from a severed fragment of Lin Feng’s true spirit. Their connection becomes adversarial after the incarnation divides into temporal selves 146.
  • Nine Heavens, Lord of the Heavenly Court — Long-standing adversary with unresolved karma. Battles Lin Feng repeatedly and later joins the attempt to break the sealing of the past 73 388 608.
  • Past Li Ping — Fellow Otherworldly Demon and opponent. Lin Feng exposes his Golden Finger and defeats his Dao Fruit; Li Ping sincerely acknowledges his superiority before the wider conflict resumes 603 607 608.
  • Wang Hao — Adversarial strategist whose ingenuity Lin Feng respects. Organizes the temporal conspiracy against him, but is later compelled to abandon actions against Chen Fan through a binding contract 528 608 696.
