Background / History
Identity across temporal lines
Past Li Ping distinguishes himself from Li Ping’s other temporal counterparts. He explains that higher-dimensional Past, Present, and Future are independent, parallel lines, not successive stages of one timeline. They proceed synchronously and can influence one another without becoming the same line 363.
He initially argues that his dead future counterpart’s actions are not his responsibility. Nevertheless, he claims to want information about that counterpart’s killer so he can arrange a resurrection: the death itself is fixed, but events afterward may still be changed 364.
Ancient conflict
The Last Supper reveals a battle in which one Supreme Existence fights nine others across several eras. The Human Realm is shattered, and the surviving figure above its ruins is identified as Past Li Ping. He subsequently works to repair the realm 585 592.
A deeper historical scene reveals his confrontation with Lin Feng, whom he had previously claimed to have fought. At his peak, Li Ping possesses a complete nine-card Ring and eleven Colorful Entries, yet remains intensely wary of Lin Feng 382 602 603 604.
Li Ping survives Lin Feng’s initial probe through Omnipotence, then escalates to the Supreme Primordial Unity Sage Dao Fruit. Lin Feng counters with another manifestation of that Dao Fruit and Beyond Heaven, suppressing Li Ping’s usable power. Li Ping sincerely concedes defeat after seeing Beyond Heaven’s thirty-three layers, but declares that the other participants have not lost 603 604 607.
Personality
Past Li Ping combines patient preparation with overt contempt for less experienced opponents. He anticipates Chen Fan’s reactions, withholds decisive information, and frequently calls him too young. Even when acknowledging Chen Fan’s potential as a “Chess Player,” he dismisses his existing abilities, memories, and reserves as inadequate 362 366 454.
His confidence is not absolute. He approaches Lin Feng cautiously, demands credible assurances before risking additional trump cards, and abandons a possible attack on Zero when the cost would prevent him from influencing the Present. He can also admit defeat and genuinely admire an opponent who has surpassed him 603 607 616 625 655.
Despite his attempts to manipulate and replace Chen Fan, he condemns Chen Fan’s Herding All Beings program as ruthless. Later, he offers serious warnings about dangerous cultivation breakthroughs and presents direct evidence of Zero’s schemes rather than a selectively edited account 586 626 628 629.
Abilities & Skills
One Entry a Year
His Golden Finger draws one entry annually. Lin Feng identifies the mechanism after investigating Li Ping through Time Shepherding 603.
- His accumulated arsenal includes eleven Colorful Entries 604 625.
- Entries are Golden Finger-derived abilities, giving them substantially higher priority than ordinary divine abilities, Great Daos, and fruit-position mystique 464.
- Their effects remain subject to opposing ability priority, temporal restrictions, and countermeasures; their names do not establish unconditional supremacy 548 607 619.
The Last Supper
A Golden Entry that creates an interactive memory scene anchored to the time Li Ping obtained it. The scene allows him to communicate with—and potentially affect—someone on another temporal line 363.
- Chen Fan cannot initially close the scene or end the communication by recalling his Other-Self 362 363.
- Li Ping describes a transaction involving the visitor’s abilities, possessions, or memories, but admits this is not the entry’s complete effect 363.
- Present Li Ping initially claims it can activate voluntarily or after his death. Past Li Ping later states that projecting the memory requires his present counterpart to have fallen, exposing the apparent Present Li Ping as an impostor 584 597.
- Although initially described as single-use, later events establish multiple charges: two have been spent before Li Ping considers preserving his final charge, which he eventually uses against Zero 363 625 651.
- Exhausting its remaining power removes his final manifestation from the Present 655.
Omniscience
A Colorful Entry and the disclosed source of his extraordinary foresight. Li Ping confirms that prediction, rather than unrestricted control of events, enabled him to guide Chen Fan toward advantageous outcomes 455.
- Supports long-term planning across temporal lines 455.
- Accompanies his ability to read Chen Fan’s thoughts, memories, experiences, and contingencies 382 454 456.
- Does not guarantee access to every secret: he cannot read relevant information about Chen Fan during a later encounter and cannot discern Zero’s origins 586 601.
Omnipotence
A Colorful Entry whose existence Li Ping confirms when Chen Fan merely thinks to ask about it. Lin Feng later identifies it as the reason his initial attack failed 456 603.
- Enables Cause-Reversal, redirecting karmic punishment onto Lin Feng 604.
- Supports Li Ping’s planned manipulation of the Third Group Mission’s destination 599.
- Works with Omniscience to replace the Humanity Dao during the expansion of True Heaven and True Hell 617.
- Can pressure or penetrate Chen Fan’s Effect Before Cause protection, though Chen Fan repeatedly uses the ability to interrupt his influence 475 476 477.
- Is initially countered by Beyond Heaven’s Golden Finger nullification 604.
Supreme Primordial Unity Sage Dao Fruit
A Colorful Entry that drastically raises Li Ping’s power and the priority of his abilities. Zero likens it to a cheat that immediately grants maximum level and seemingly permits whatever abilities its user wants 604 605.
- Restores Cause-Reversal after Lin Feng nullifies it and halts the tolling of Beyond Heaven 604.
- Allows Li Ping to deny Lin Feng’s existence in the observed Past, although Lin Feng remains able to respond 606.
- Reaches through the observed past scene to overwrite Chen Fan’s present reality and crack I Am the Chess Player 605.
- Chen Fan escapes only after the Primordial Chaos Bell briefly frees him to activate Ten Gates 605.
- Lin Feng’s higher-level authority weakens and seals its usable power, even though its origin survives 607.
True Heaven and True Eighteen Levels of Hell
Two Colorful Entries that produce genuinely existing great realms rather than ordinary illusory domains 616 617.
- True Heaven grants immense merit, resurrection, sealing immunity, an eternal soul, and resistance to copying 617.
- True Hell supplies endless karmic punishment and judgment, alongside its own indestructibility and unique nature 617.
- Together they replace the Heavenly and Earthly Daos and contest Beyond Heaven and the present world 617.
- Li Ping resurrects after Lin Feng extracts and annihilates him; his survival persists while the realms endure 617.
- Their genuine nature prevents Twin Blossoms from copying them, although copied lesser realms can obstruct and batter them 617.
- Li Ping deliberately leaves them incomplete, primarily using them to buy time. Lin Feng subsequently casts him and both realms into possible futures 618.
Class Card Mastery
Li Ping combines and borrows Class Card powers without always adopting their classes directly 372 377 604.
- Forms a flawless Ring from nine Colorful Class Cards, or an incomplete Ring from six 602 600 651.
- Uses Creator to create and destroy countless realms and form an escape Ring 527.
- Borrows Thinker for strategic perspective and analysis 372.
- Borrows Lie Eater to detect deception, though he still cannot see through the full circumstances of the Longevity Realm’s assimilating being 377.
- Can manifest through a six-card Ring to confront Zero in the Present 600 621 651.
Other Documented Entries
| Entry | Grade | Documented use |
|---|---|---|
| Choose and Get Rewards | Purple | Tells Li Ping that Chen Fan will abandon the Gods and Devils Realms expedition if he does nothing 362. |
| Unscheduled Future | Purple | Previously glimpses Chen Fan’s existence as the Chat Group’s Group Leader 362. |
| Voices of All Things | Purple | Li Ping claims it could reveal Chen Fan’s thoughts, but initially says he cannot apply it across spacetime 362. |
Temporal Intervention and Restrictions
Li Ping can influence observers through memory scenes, but cannot freely intervene across higher-dimensional temporal lines 460 464.
- Claims that direct intervention would attract powerful observers and karmic law 460.
- Admits that he is being watched and cannot act freely, while refusing to fully identify the force restraining him 464.
- Requires Chen Fan himself to activate Sage of Today as part of a proposed route around those restrictions; simply obtaining or recreating the ability is insufficient to explain his plan 464.
- Attempts to imprint his true form into Chen Fan’s Sea of Consciousness and assimilate him 475 476.
- A simulated substitute erases Chen Fan’s Past, Present, and Future imprints while replacing his identity 523.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Colorful Class Cards — His peak Ring contains nine cards, spanning Zero Returner through Creator. Six later serve as reserves for his present-world manifestations 604 600 651.
- Creator — Offered to Chen Fan as payment for ensuring the Fifth Group Mission begins and obtaining its reward. A simulated substitute later strains and cracks the card while escaping higher-dimensional enemies 366 527.
- Thousand-Lifetime Fate-Reversing Book — A Golden Finger ability stolen from another Otherworldly Demon and counted among his Colorful Entries. Enables reincarnation while retaining abilities and pushing them beyond their limits 619 625.
- Thinker and Lie Eater — Purple Class Cards whose powers he borrows for analysis and lie detection 372 377.
Relationships
- Chen Fan — Target, bargaining partner, and occasional adviser’s counterpart. Li Ping repeatedly manipulates him and seeks to replace his identity, but later provides evidence and cultivation warnings useful to him 454 464 626 628 629.
- Present Li Ping — His counterpart on a separate temporal line. After Zero replaces Present Li Ping, Past Li Ping attempts to reclaim that identity 597 601 625 655.
- Future Li Ping — A distinct counterpart whose death activates the initial contingency encounter. Past Li Ping disclaims responsibility for his actions while professing an interest in arranging his resurrection 362 363 364.
- Lin Feng — Overwhelming rival whom Li Ping initially uses to unsettle Chen Fan’s trust. Their revealed battle ends in Li Ping’s sincere acknowledgment of Lin Feng’s superiority 382 603 607.
- Wang Hao — Tactical collaborator against Lin Feng, but also the apparent architect of the duplicate-identity trap that annihilates Li Ping’s simulated substitute 527 528 616 619.
- Zero / Past Zero — Rival who replaces Present Li Ping, exploits the Fate-Reversing Book, and defeats him twice: first through planning, then through superior power 597 625 626 655.
- Venerable Lord of Yin-Yang Authority — Concealed contingency associated with Li Ping’s scheme around Chen Fan. The Venerable Lord’s own objective is later inferred to differ from Li Ping’s desired descent into the Future 461 464 470.
- Lord of the Heavenly Court, Nine Heavens — Co-combatant against Lin Feng during the struggle involving multiple Supreme Primordial Unity Sage Dao Fruits 616 617.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Initial Contingency and Bargains
Chen Fan encounters Past Li Ping through an ancient memory while exploring the Gods and Devils Realms. Li Ping identifies him from sparse clues and entry-assisted predictions; Chen Fan immediately tries, unsuccessfully, to disengage 362 363.
Li Ping offers Creator and information in return for guaranteeing the Fifth Group Mission and obtaining its reward. He refuses to explain the mission’s significance, suggesting that full knowledge might make Chen Fan decline 366.
As an ongoing observer, he helps expose deception in the Longevity Realm and negotiate access to the true Supreme True Realm. His later admission that he deliberately borrowed Lin Feng’s catchphrase to reveal access to Chen Fan’s memories makes his warning about Lin Feng equally suspect 377 379 381 382.
Attempt to Replace Chen Fan
Chen Fan discovers that Li Ping has been influencing his judgment and hides his real consciousness inside I Am the Chess Player. Li Ping reveals Omniscience and Omnipotence, while Chen Fan gradually identifies the intended combination of Wish Echo, Sage of Today, and Transform All Beings 453 454 455 456 457 464.
The plan develops into an attempt to make Chen Fan become Past Li Ping and enable intervention in the Fourth Group Mission. Li Ping’s repeated pressure forces Chen Fan to consume his Effect Before Cause safeguards 464 475 476 477.
A later attacker admits that he is only a simulated Past Li Ping created through two Colorful Class Cards. After taking over Chen Fan’s simulated clone, this substitute is annihilated when it observes another “Chen Fan” arriving at the same higher-dimensional point in time. His final cry implicates Wang Hao 523 527.
Third Future Letter and Zero’s Replacement
The Third Future Letter instructs Chen Fan to find Past Li Ping to correct an impending disaster. Chen Fan deliberately activates the contingency, explains the letter, and establishes continued contact 583 585 586.
Past Li Ping spends years repairing the Human Realm and calculating events. He eventually warns that Present Li Ping is already dead and identifies Zero as the architect of a trap aimed at himself 592 596 597.
During the Gods and Devils Realms mission, six Colorful Class Cards form a Ring and manifest him opposite Zero’s replacement of Present Li Ping. Zero defeats his opening attack and ultimately uses the Fate-Reversing Book to obtain a reincarnated avatar with access to the Present 600 621 625 626.
Hidden Battle with Lin Feng
Chen Fan’s temporal investigation exposes Li Ping’s ancient duel with Lin Feng and draws his present self into danger from the Sage Dao Fruit’s influence 602 603 604 605.
The wider struggle includes Wang Hao and Nine Heavens. Li Ping deploys True Heaven and True Hell to delay Lin Feng, but Time Shepherding removes him into possible futures. His attempted escape through the Fate-Reversing Book is then intercepted by another hidden player 616 617 618 619.
Final Contest with Zero
After his first defeat, Li Ping presents Chen Fan with the Book’s settlement record, revealing Zero’s control over intelligence from Listening. He also warns against unsafe Qi Refining Limit-Breaking, estimating roughly 50,000 layers as a likely ceiling under Chen Fan’s existing circumstances 626 628 629.
Li Ping later recognizes Chen Fan’s intended arrangement with Zero and spends his final Last Supper opportunity to manifest through the six-card Ring. He nearly wins—erasing Zero and preparing to reclaim Present Li Ping’s identity—before Zero’s true Golden Finger reverses the outcome 650 651 655.
Before fading, Li Ping concedes defeat and asks whether Zero’s ability operates at the level of narrative. He also questions Zero’s unusual care for Chen Fan, receiving no complete explanation of their relationship 655.
