Background / History

Creation and Early Survival

Nuwa discovers that the Spirit River is the River of Life and recognizes human creation as her path to the Dao. She molds three thousand figures using Nine Heavens Breathing Soil, life energy, her life-origin blood, and strands of her soul. The awakened humans call her Mother Goddess. Their creation earns Nuwa the merit needed for Sainthood, after which she forbids anyone from harming humanity for one epoch 58.

The early humans are relocated to the East Victory Divine Continent, where spiritual energy and blessed lands are abundant. Despite their favorable constitutions, they initially lack cultivation methods and survive predators and disasters through cooperation. Following Wang Shi’s advice, Laozi studies them, accepts the compassionate boy Xuandu as a disciple, and teaches his tribe. His establishment of the Human Religion brings him Sainthood but takes half of humanity’s fortune, which Nuwa regards as a serious debt 59 60.

Fuxi and the First Human Civilization

Fuxi reincarnates into humanity and is raised by the Thunder Dragon. At fifteen, he leaves to protect his people and rescues the Huaxu tribe from Demon Beasts. He finds scattered settlements without a civilization of their own: people use bowls hollowed from logs and preserve old embers to maintain their fires. He begins teaching writing, cultivation, agriculture, livestock raising, beast taming, and social rules 103 104.

Huaxu grows from several hundred people into a tribe of tens of thousands, capable of producing armor, weapons, and some magical treasures. Fuxi absorbs surrounding tribes, brings the East Victory Divine Continent into the Huaxu Kingdom, and becomes the first Human Emperor. Humanity’s expansion alarms other races, whose alliance approaches human cities protected by walls and formations. Fuxi reveals that he deliberately encouraged confrontation to restore humanity’s drive to cultivate and pursue a Human Dao 104 105 106.

The Witch Clan’s withdrawal into the Underworld removes the alliance’s principal rallying banner. Its collapse allows humanity to advance into prosperous regions across the Four Great Continents 109.

Shennong’s Recovery and Reunification

Rapid population growth creates an approaching food shortage. Wang Shi and Shennong travel between tribes, recording and distributing knowledge of cultivation, crops, spirit plants, medicines, growing seasons, and harvesting. Their teaching gives humans alternatives to reliance on hunting 110.

A century after Fuxi’s fall, rival rulers have fractured the Huaxu Kingdom, while external attacks threaten its borders. Shennong begins rebuilding in Lihuo City, requiring fair farmland allocation and standardized housing. With Su Li and the Su Family, he develops relief, public works, refugee shelters, and schools. He establishes the Ancient Li Kingdom and negotiates with Xuanyuan rather than destroying his rival alliance 114 115.

Xuanyuan’s tribe joins the kingdom, and Shennong reunifies humanity under a federation modeled on Fuxi’s system. After becoming a Saint, he continues promoting frugality, education, academies, and cultivation. When Nuwa summons him to confront the spreading darkness, he appoints Xuanyuan acting Human Emperor and entrusts him with the Human Emperor Sword 116.

War Against the Darkness

Humanity becomes a principal defender of the Primordial World. Five rounds of conscription bring a total of one hundred thousand Golden Immortals into the war. Wang Shi’s arrangements protect the souls of fallen defenders and allow their inclusion on the Investiture of the Gods List, supplying rightful gods and tireless divine armies. Xuanyuan deploys these forces to halt and briefly reverse the Dark Lifeforms’ advance 149.

Humanity suffers the greatest losses while sheltering other factions from the war. Wang Shi later mediates cooperation between Xuanyuan and Haotian, joining human armies with the rebuilt Heavenly Court in a campaign to unify the Primordial World 163 164.

The Xuanyuan Empire

Although Xuanyuan establishes an imperial court and administrative departments, many tribes remain effectively independent. His authority works best during external wars and rarely reaches their internal affairs. When he proposes abolishing slavery and tribal rule, chiefs defend a system in which ordinary people serve cultivators; fewer than ten support his reforms 121 179 180.

Xuanyuan relinquishes authority over the resisting tribes and establishes the Xuanyuan Empire within ten million li of Human Emperor City. With Wang Shi’s guidance, he abolishes slavery, develops education and industry, and gives ordinary people productive roles alongside cultivators. Over a century, the empire’s population rises from tens of millions to one billion 181.

After studying other civilizations with Wang Shi, Xuanyuan further adapts schooling and work to individual abilities. Meanwhile, independent tribes enter escalating wars and eventually encroach on his empire. After twelve hundred years of development, Xuanyuan mobilizes an advanced military, conquers the East Victory Divine Continent in one month, and controls the mortal realm within six months. He avoids mass slaughter and then concentrates on the slower task of integrating conquered communities 182 187 188 193.

Saint-Backed Division and Renewed Unification

The Saints subsequently obstruct lasting unity by supporting human puppet rulers and dividing humanity’s faith among their own spheres of influence. Wang Shi’s return provides Xuanyuan an opportunity to resume reunification. The first major confrontation targets Northern Di, which holds Northern Kuru Continent under Nuwa’s protection 223 224.

Xuanyuan spreads leaflets describing oppression and the possibility of freedom, while an orderly human camp provides evidence of the promised alternative. Human weapons and coordinated formations then devastate the supporting demon army. Northern Di’s King Yu surrenders; Xuanyuan releases him to persuade the remaining northern tribes, offering him a future role rather than preserving his throne 225 226 227 228.

Collective Awakening and the Human Dao

System Lifeforms infiltrate the Primordial World but conspicuously fail to parasitize humans. When system-controlled forces attack, Fuxi’s prepared protective formations hold. Fuxi attributes humanity’s safety to racial fortune, but Wang Shi identifies a deeper cause: its collective will is awakening. The Fortune Golden Dragon subsequently recognizes Wang Shi as humanity’s guardian 234 242 243.

The final isolated branch is the Chi You Tribe. Yu the Great and the God of War Squad compel its return using binding ropes and cages, causing virtually no casualties. Xuanyuan welcomes its chief, acknowledges humanity’s past failure to protect the tribe, and promises assistance. With the last branch returned, reunification is complete 261 262.

Humanity’s united faith and will then establish the Human Dao. The Fortune Golden Dragon blesses every human, and Hongjun acknowledges that the Primordial World now possesses the Daos of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. Fuxi promises an everlasting monument honoring Nuwa’s creation of the race, while Nuwa celebrates humanity’s achievement through its own struggles 263.

Abilities & Skills

Innate Cultivation Aptitude

Humanity’s original innate Dao physiques make it unusually well suited to cultivation 59.

  • Recorded humans attain immortality in a hundred years and Great Luo within ten thousand years 103.
  • Human constitutions attract immortals seeking disciples 109.
  • Aptitude varies: Xuanyuan’s later reforms recognize that forcing unsuitable people into cultivation can waste their lives and talents 187.

Population Growth and Recovery

Large numbers and rapid population growth give humanity a major advantage in prolonged competition with older races 105 179.

  • Wang Shi warns that human numbers and recovery from setbacks make sustained war against them disastrous for the Witch Clan 105.
  • Improved food and cooperation strengthen bodies while supporting population growth 181.
  • Expansion can create pressure on resources: early victories and rising survival rates lead to an approaching food crisis 110.

Invention and Technological Warfare

Humanity combines cultivation with research, toolmaking, machinery, and organized production rather than relying solely on individual power 181 224.

  • War behemoths resist tribal flying swords with energy shields and turn lightning attacks into usable energy through lightning rods 188.
  • Explosives destroy massed demon forces, while cultivator formations isolate stronger opponents 226.
  • Advanced weapons help the newly unified race fight the darkness and earn recognition from established powers 211.

Fortune and Collective Will

Human faith and fortune can empower representatives of the race and eventually form a shared will 224 243.

  • Humanity’s fortune and faith enhance Xuanyuan’s battlefield strength and help him resist Dark Lifeforms 224.
  • Wang Shi identifies the collective will’s awakening as the reason humanity escaped the System Lifeforms’ influence 242 243.
  • The developing Fortune Golden Dragon initially appears only to Wang Shi; Fuxi senses the event without seeing it 243.

Human Dao

The Human Dao is humanity’s own Great Dao, established through complete reunification and shared resolve 262 263.

  • Its founding blessing improves every human’s talent, weakens cultivation bottlenecks, and increases strength 263.
  • It protects Xuanyuan without an explicitly documented advancement to Sainthood 263.
  • Humanity’s extinction would require destroying its Great Dao and every human; the Dao can also perish if the worlds sustaining it are destroyed 263.
  • Human migration can spread the Dao beyond the Primordial World. This is a basis for collective endurance, not a declaration that every human is individually immortal 263.

Society & Governance

Civilization and Education

  • Fuxi’s foundations: Writing, etiquette, marriage and funeral customs, fishing, hunting, grain cultivation, livestock raising, and Spirit Beast taming establish humanity’s own civilization 104.
  • Shennong’s practical teaching: Distributed records preserve cultivation, agricultural, and medicinal knowledge across tribes 110.
  • Imperial schooling: Children receive broad instruction before specializing in cultivation, physical training, machinery, or other work according to ability and interest 181 187.
  • Division of labor: Agriculture, commerce, administration, and industry give ordinary people recognized roles alongside cultivators 181.
  • Public contribution: Education gradually shifts emphasis from cultivation and longevity at any cost toward meaningful work for humanity; contributors are remembered in its history 187.

Equality and Internal Conflict

  • Traditional chiefs defend slavery by claiming that people without cultivation talent owe cultivators their loyalty and lives 180.
  • Xuanyuan’s empire rejects slavery and develops cooperation between ordinary people and cultivators 181.
  • Reunification is framed as freeing fellow humans and improving their lives, not slaughtering rival populations 224.
  • Shared ancestry does not ensure loyalty: Wang Shi discovers selfish cultivators, resentful citizens, and human spies serving other races 244.
  • Inclusion can be coercive. The Chi You Tribe is forcibly transported despite refusing reunion, although its people are spared and subsequently welcomed 262.

Political and Spiritual Independence

  • Fuxi first proposes a Human Dao able to rival the Heavenly and Earthly Daos 106.
  • Xuanyuan seeks to reclaim human faith and fortune from the Saints and redirect worship toward human ancestors 179 180.
  • During humanity’s fragile transformation, Wang Shi refuses the Buddhist Sages permission to proselytize among humans 251.
  • The independence movement coexists with expansion beyond humanity: Wang Shi later proposes conquest and enslavement of other worlds, assigning humans to collect resources 257.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Human Emperor Sword / Xuanyuan Sword — A merit-bearing weapon entrusted by Shennong to Xuanyuan for maintaining order; Xuanyuan uses his sword against the Dark Lifeforms 116 224.

  • Shennong — Agricultural and medicinal teacher, Flame Emperor, and second Human Saint. Rebuilds humanity after fragmentation and supports its defense and reunification 110 115 116 227.
  • Xuanyuan — Reforming Human Emperor who develops the empire’s combined technological and cultivation system, completes reunification, and receives the Human Dao’s protection 181 188 262 263.
  • Wang Shi / Stone Spirit — Adviser, teacher, reform architect, and guardian deity. His allegiance stems partly from having been human before transmigration 110 181 243 257.
  • Haotian and the Heavenly Court — Military partners in unifying the Primordial World. Haotian later congratulates Xuanyuan while privately fearing humanity’s expanding military capacity 164 188.
  • Witch Clan — A former rival displaced by humanity’s rise; its withdrawal into the Underworld collapses the anti-human alliance 105 109.
  • Demon Tribe — A recurring adversary, including in the Saint-backed Northern Di campaign. Defeated demon kings are placed under Shennong’s supervision 224 226 227.
  • Yu the Great — Expedition commander who brings the final Chi You branch back into humanity and insists that no human be abandoned 261 262.
  • Dark Forces and System Lifeforms — Existential enemies. Humanity fights the Dark Invasion and withstands the systems’ coordinated assault while avoiding their parasitism 149 234 242.
