Background / History
Gu Yuanqing was born into a princely household as a concubine's son. Without support within the strict hierarchy of the manor, he lived cautiously and endured a restrained upbringing. In his previous life, he was an ordinary man who died from overwork; he still remembers his parents from that life and wonders whether the stars above belong to the world he once called home 33 102.
The Great Gan Imperial Family confined him to North Spring Mountain. There he lived in a small courtyard with Feng Tao and an old servant, cultivated in isolation, and formed an affinity with the mountain's animals. North Spring Mountain gradually became inseparable from his cultivation, eventually transforming into a Spiritual Mountain and later the North Spring Grotto-Heaven 10 17.
His early seclusion was repeatedly disrupted by enemies, Imperial Guard schemes, and sect conflicts. After initially being treated as a prisoner, his rising strength forced the Great Gan court and the wider cultivation world to reassess him. Gu Yuanqing rejected attempts to compel him into defending the dynasty, maintaining that his confinement did not make him responsible for its commands or failures 44 51 54.
Over time, North Spring Mountain became the center of the Qian Yuan Realm. Gu Yuanqing cultivated its strength, protected its inhabitants, guided its younger generation, and confronted powerful forces including the Sanyang Sect, the Primordial Divine Sect, Heavenly Demons, and external realms 523 628 686.
Appearance
Gu Yuanqing appears remarkably young even after centuries of cultivation. His bearing is usually calm, restrained, and difficult to read; observers often fail to sense the scale of his strength until he acts.
- Wears green robes on formal public appearances 688.
- Keeps his long hair casually tied, with loose strands at his temples 688.
- Has deep, tranquil eyes that can become sharp and penetrating 688.
- Often appears ethereal and unassuming rather than overtly powerful 532.
- His aura increasingly carries a detachment from mortal concerns as his cultivation advances 264.
Personality
Gu Yuanqing values freedom, peace, and the ability to cultivate without interference. He dislikes being manipulated into action, indebted through favors, or drawn into conflicts for other people's benefit. This makes him cautious in political dealings and blunt toward those who attempt to pressure him 50 54 778.
Though initially isolated and at times cold toward outsiders, he is protective of those he accepts as his own. He guides his descendants and disciples, safeguards North Spring Grotto-Heaven, and provides aid to allies who have earned his trust 523 630 871.
His strength has given him a profound detachment from ordinary worldly concerns, but not complete indifference. He retains unresolved feelings for Li Miaoxuan, shows gratitude toward those who helped him survive, and continues to reflect on family, his former life, and the path he wishes to pursue 116 551 749.
