At her signal, Mu Sheng quickly shut all the doors and windows. The two gathered beside the table and took the cloth containing the Beast-Shifter's ashes out of her storage space. Dongfang Minghui also glanced at Mairon, who lay on the floor. His eyes were tightly shut, and he seemed to still be unconscious.
"I found something else in these ashes."
Mu Sheng saw that the opened bundle contained not only ashes, but also many deep-blue granules mixed among them. Set against the dull gray ashes, they were particularly conspicuous. He reached out to touch them, only to receive a smack on the back of his hand.
When Dongfang Minghui had wrapped them in cloth earlier, they had nearly burned a hole through it. She tilted her head to explain, but happened to see the man on the floor stir. She quickly wrapped the cloth back up and whispered, "Better not touch things belonging to the dead. They're unlucky."
Then she frantically winked and made faces at Mu Sheng.
Mu Sheng looked utterly confused. Only after following her gaze did understanding dawn on him. "They certainly are unlucky," he agreed. He stood up and continued, "It's already noon. Eldest Uncle and Sister Wan Yu have been gone so long. Why aren't they back yet? I'll go check by the inn entrance."
"All right. Don't go too far."
After Mu Sheng left, Dongfang Minghui stood up and gave Little Fatty and Toothless some water. Little Fatty gulped it down like an ox, making loud glugging noises. Once finished, she patted her belly contentedly. That little belly was like a water tank, perfectly round.
