Chen Hao stared blankly at the two people chatting and laughing in the café, his mind a complete blank.
The man sitting opposite her was none other than Liang Hong, whose teeth he had smashed yesterday.
Chen Hao had thought that exposing Liang Hong's hypocrisy in front of everyone yesterday would be enough for people to see his true colors.
But he had never imagined that today, his girlfriend, Sun Jiaqi, would still be fooling around with him.
Seeing Sun Jiaqi laughing and chatting so happily with him through the window, Chen Hao couldn't help giving a helpless, self-mocking smile.
He took out his phone and called her.
Inside the café, Sun Jiaqi saw that Chen Hao was calling and deliberately stepped aside before answering.
"Jiaqi, what are you doing right now?"
She paused, then replied coldly, "What does that have to do with you?"
Hearing Sun Jiaqi's reply, Chen Hao's heart shattered completely.
He hung up. Faced with the scene before him, the call had already become meaningless.
In truth, Chen Hao had already anticipated everything that had happened. He just hadn't expected Sun Jiaqi to change so quickly.
When the call abruptly ended, Sun Jiaqi instinctively looked out the window.
The instant her eyes met Chen Hao's, guilty surprise flashed across her face.
Liang Hong had seen everything.
With a wicked grin, he pulled Sun Jiaqi into his arms, then forcibly dragged her out of the café.
Seeing the woman he had once loved so deeply in the arms of a scumbag like Liang Hong left Chen Hao with a bitter ache.
Liang Hong was clearly doing this to get back at him. He stared straight at Chen Hao, looking so smug that he was practically begging for a beating.
They stared at each other, sinking into a strange silence.
"I shouldn't have come, right? You really didn't have to lie to me," Chen Hao suddenly said.
His voice was calm, betraying not a trace of emotion.
Sun Jiaqi's expression was conflicted. Perhaps she knew she was in the wrong, because she didn't even dare look him in the eye.
Chen Hao let out a self-mocking laugh and pointed at Liang Hong. "I know I'm not good enough for you, but if you're going to find someone else, at least find a decent human being. Him?"
Being insulted to his face like that naturally infuriated Liang Hong.
But before he could speak, Sun Jiaqi suddenly shouted, "That's right! I like men like Liang Hong! So what?"
Chen Hao laughed, at a loss for what else to do. Shaking his head, he said, "You finally told the truth. You've been sleeping with him for a while now, haven't you?"
"Chen Hao, watch your filthy mouth!" Sun Jiaqi pointed at him and shouted angrily.
Seeing no point in saying anything more, Chen Hao sighed softly. "I never thought you were this kind of person. Forget it. I was blind. But remember this, Sun Jiaqi: I'm the one dumping you today. Don't come regretting it later."
At that, Sun Jiaqi abandoned all restraint and pointed right at his nose, cursing, "Bullshit! What gives you the right to dump me? You don't even have a decent job! I must have been blind to ever fall for you!"
Faced with Sun Jiaqi's accusations, Chen Hao no longer had the energy to argue.
To think he had once believed so firmly in their love. It had all been an act on her part.
Sure enough, love was utterly powerless in the face of money.
Tap!
Just as Chen Hao turned to leave, a cigarette butt flicked straight onto his head.
He stopped abruptly. When he turned around, his eyes had become frighteningly fierce.
Liang Hong had intended to mock him some more, but the sudden change in Chen Hao's demeanor made him frown slightly.
The memory of being knocked senseless by Chen Hao's slap yesterday was still fresh, and he couldn't help feeling a little nervous.
Sensing trouble, Liang Hong muttered a couple more curses and hurried toward his Mercedes-Benz with an arm around Sun Jiaqi.
As soon as he started the car, Liang Hong honked twice, rolled down the window, and cursed, "A good dog stays out of the way. Get the hell aside!"
Chen Hao curled his lip, took out a cigarette, and started smoking, clearly having no intention of moving.
A vicious look flashed in Liang Hong's eyes. He shifted into Drive and slowly drove toward Chen Hao.
Beside him, Sun Jiaqi patted his arm. "Don't do anything rash. Hitting him will only get you into a load of trouble. It's not worth it."
Though angry, Liang Hong wasn't an idiot. He understood that perfectly. He had never intended to actually hit Chen Hao; he only wanted to intimidate him into backing down.
But to his surprise, Chen Hao didn't move even after the car started forward. As it slowly approached him, he kept smoking and bouncing his leg as though he hadn't noticed.
Liang Hong was so furious that the corners of his eyes twitched, and he kept driving toward him.
The instant Chen Hao felt the car touch his leg, he drove his thigh forward with a sudden burst of strength, slamming it hard into the Mercedes-Benz's front end.
Rather than a push, it was more accurately described as a collision.
With a bang, the entire car jolted upward, deploying both front airbags.
The force of an airbag deploying was tremendous, every bit as powerful as a punch from a grown man.
Inside the car, Liang Hong and Sun Jiaqi were left dazed by the airbags slamming into them.
Chen Hao couldn't be bothered with them. He scoffed and prepared to leave.
With blood streaming from his nose after the airbag hit him, a dazed Liang Hong opened the door and roared, "Chen Hao, don't you fucking leave! I'm calling the police!"
Then he glanced at the front of his car and froze.
The front of his Mercedes-Benz had completely collapsed to the ground. The bumper lay shattered across the pavement, and the hood was bent, as though the car had slammed squarely into a utility pole. Liang Hong was so shocked that he couldn't recover for a long moment.
Chen Hao wore a wicked grin. You little punk. You dare drive into me? I'll show you what it means to ask for trouble. "Say, Liang Hong, isn't your car a little too cheaply made?"
"You... you... just you wait! I'm calling the police to arrest you right now!" Liang Hong took out his phone and dialed.
Chen Hao remained utterly relaxed. Go ahead and call. Who's afraid of whom?
Liang Hong quickly explained what had happened and where they were, then hung up.
Even after putting down his phone, Liang Hong refused to let it go. "Chen Hao, do you know how much this car cost? Four hundred thousand! You couldn't afford a car this expensive in your entire life! Paying for this will ruin you!"
As he spoke, Sun Jiaqi climbed out of the car as well.
A large patch of her face was bruised and swollen, and blood from her nose smeared her face. She looked utterly bedraggled.
Chen Hao felt no sympathy for her now. Seeing her ridiculous appearance, he couldn't resist twisting the knife. "Well, well, you two really are a perfect match. Even your nosebleeds had to happen on the same day."
Sun Jiaqi had clearly taken a hard blow from the airbag and was still dizzy. Hearing Chen Hao mock them, she cursed angrily, "Chen Hao, you actually wrecked Liang Hong's car like this! Let's see how you pay for it!"
Chen Hao couldn't be bothered wasting any more breath on the shameless pair. He found a spot to squat down and smoke.
The crumpled front end soon attracted a crowd, all of them bewildered. How had a perfectly good car ended up wrecked like this?
Before long, two police officers arrived. They glanced at the car, equally puzzled.
"Who called the police?" one officer asked as he got out.
With tissues stuffed into both nostrils, Liang Hong approached with a faint smile. "Officer, I did."
His disheveled appearance gave the officer a start. "What exactly happened here? Tell me."
After hearing Liang Hong's version of events, the officer was baffled. Pointing at Chen Hao, he asked, "You're saying he wrecked your car with one kick?"
Hearing the officer put it that way, even Liang Hong felt embarrassed. He could only scratch the back of his head and nod uncertainly.
Chen Hao walked up to the officer with a smile. "Officer, this guy drove straight into me. Obviously, there's something wrong with his car's quality, because it fell apart the moment it hit me. I haven't even accused you of intentional assault and dangerous driving yet, and you have the nerve to report me?"
"Bullshit! My car's a Mercedes-Benz! You think it's made of paper?" Liang Hong retorted indignantly.
"Officer, I don't want to waste time arguing with someone this uncivilized. Just check the surveillance footage," Chen Hao said calmly.
"All right. I'll gather the evidence. For now, come back to the station with me. We'll impound the car."
The officers began taking photographs to document the scene, then brought all three of them back to the police station.
As soon as they reached the entrance, Liang Hong smiled and leaned toward Sun Jiaqi's ear. "What a coincidence. I know the chief here. If I don't make Chen Hao's life hell today, I'll take his surname."
"You're amazing. You even know the police chief." Sun Jiaqi looked at Liang Hong with growing admiration.
Her praise made Liang Hong even smugger. "It's nothing much. Just some of my dad's connections."
Watching the pair whisper and flirt, Chen Hao's eyes filled with contempt.
Though they were several meters apart, his senses now far surpassed those of an ordinary person, so he had heard their conversation clearly.
If Liang Hong really knew the police chief, Chen Hao might be in for some trouble today.
He still wanted to believe that every police officer in Huaxia was upright and would enforce the law impartially, but reality often proved otherwise.
When they entered the station's mediation room, an officer immediately came over to take their statements. "All right, tell me what happened."
Smiling, Liang Hong took a Huazi Cigarette from his pocket and offered it to the officer. "Thanks for your hard work, officer. Here, have a smoke."
The young officer seemed put off by the gesture and refused. "Just tell me what happened. Smoking is prohibited in the station."
Putting the cigarette away, Liang Hong continued, "Could you let Chief Zhang know I'm here? I called him just now, but he didn't answer."
The young officer taking their statements looked up at him. "You know Chief Zhang?"
Liang Hong chuckled. "Yes, yes. Your chief and I are old friends."
"Whether you know him or not, we still need your statement. Get on with it and stop bringing up irrelevant things," the young officer said impatiently, refusing to play along.
Seeing how upright the young officer was, Chen Hao's opinion of him immediately improved.
Liang Hong felt differently. Faced with the officer's attitude, he inwardly cursed him for not knowing how things worked, then ignored him and went off to make another call.
The young officer's expression darkened when Liang Hong turned away and ignored him.
Chen Hao stepped forward. "Officer, let me give my statement."
While Chen Hao was giving his statement, three or four officers hurried in from outside.
Liang Hong's eyes immediately lit up. He jogged over to greet them. "Uncle Zhang, remember me? It's me, Hong!"
Chief Zhang looked to be in his fifties and had a fairly upright appearance. He frowned when someone rushed toward him, studying Liang Hong for a while before saying, "Oh, now I remember. You're Old Liang's son, aren't you?"
