"Liu Qing, my Milotic and Gastrodon are still out in the sea. That only leaves Togepi, so I'll leave this to you." Since they were on vacation, neither she nor Liu Qing had brought all their Pokémon, leaving the others to rest at the breeding park. She had brought Milotic and Gastrodon not only for protection, but also because they were Water-type Pokémon, perfectly suited to traveling through the Southern Islands.
"Heh, good thing I brought Arcanine, or we'd be stuck now." Liu Qing chuckled, set the Togepi in his arms on the ground, and tossed out a Poké Ball. Arcanine appeared, taking a battle stance facing Crystal Onix with a low growl rumbling in his throat.
Crystal Onix immediately reared up and opened his mouth, launching chunks of crystal at Arcanine with Rock Throw. But neither the speed nor the power was anything impressive. There was no way Arcanine would be hit by a move like that; he ran lightly out of the way. Onix roared in anger and charged at Arcanine with Tackle.
"Arcanine, Fire Blast!" Just then, footsteps sounded again from the passage they had entered through. Liu Qing frowned slightly. He had intended to take the battle slowly so Liu Yuan and Lusana could watch a real fight unfold, but that no longer seemed possible. He had no idea who was approaching, and Arcanine was their only fighting force. He could not afford to drag things out, so he went straight for a powerful move.
"Roar!" Arcanine growled, gathered his power, and opened his mouth to unleash a blast of flame. It struck the charging Onix head-on. The tremendous force and searing flames drove Onix straight back, making him cry out in pain as his sky-blue crystal body burned red.
