"Porygon-Z, you did great. Come back and rest!" Dragonite had seemed to be in serious danger during the previous battle, but had actually taken very little damage. This drove home to Liu Qing just how unfathomable Lance and Dragonite's strength was. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Liu Qing threw his third Poké Ball with a backhand toss. "Gyarados, I'm counting on you!"
As the Poké Ball opened, Gyarados appeared on the field amid golden sparkles. Its purplish-red scales gleamed translucently in the sunlight, yet looked immensely thick and heavy. Its nearly ten-meter-long body stretched across the ground, and it let out a majestic roar at Dragonite that shook the heavens. Its ferocious expression made its Intimidate ability all the more imposing. An ordinary Pokémon would probably have quailed at that roar, but Dragonite was not frightened at all. Instead, like a monarch who had been challenged, it radiated overwhelming majesty without so much as changing its expression, leaving everyone trembling and oppressed.
"What a Gyarados! An opponent worthy of Dragonite's full attention!" Lance had seen Liu Qing's Gyarados back in Hoenn, but it felt far stronger now than it had then. Moreover, as far as Lance knew, Liu Qing still had Latios and Salamence with him. Though he did not know whether Liu Qing would use them both, Liu Qing's remaining resources were already no worse than his own. If he wanted to defeat Liu Qing, the burden on the Dragonite he was currently using would be immense. Having thought this through, Lance issued the first command. "Dragonite, use Thunder!"
At his command, Dragonite's two antennae immediately crackled with golden electricity. Power gathered amid the flashes, forming a dazzling golden pillar of lightning that shot toward Gyarados with overwhelming force.
