Ch. 701Side story two: My struggle in another world
Plot points and events
- Minato Namikaze awakens alone in an unfamiliar forest, frightened and desperate to return home. He is soon abducted by bandits who plan to ransom him or sell him into slavery.
- The bandits use Minato as bait to ambush a white-haired young ninja. Minato tries to warn him, but the ninja calmly deflects the attackers’ weapons and frees him.
- The man—Jiraiya—protects Minato during a violent battle, using techniques that resemble Pokémon moves. Afterward, he offers to take Minato to the Hidden Leaf Village, where orphans are being housed.
- Jiraiya brings Minato to the Hokage, who gives him a residence permit. Minato moves into a small, humble room and struggles with loneliness, hunger, and the drastic change from his former privileged life.
- Though he finds the orphanage’s food nearly unbearable, Minato forces himself to eat, reasoning that he must survive and grow stronger if he hopes to return home. He gradually adapts to village life and stores away his fine clothes as his last link to home.
Character development
- Minato shifts from a frightened, homesick child to a stubborn survivor. His pride in his family and determination to return home help him endure danger, poverty, and isolation.
- Jiraiya shows compassion beneath his rough manner: he rescues Minato, comforts him, and finds him shelter. He also quietly watches over him afterward, suggesting concern that he does not express openly.
- The Hokage is authoritative but practical, questioning Minato before granting him a place in the village.
