In the Hokage Office, Naruto sat at his desk, which was already piled high with documents.
But even so, he hadn't touched any of them.
He was consumed by worry over Boruto and Kawaki's futures.
He worried about what Kawaki would do from now on. As things stood, Konoha probably no longer had a place for him.
But if he left Konoha, what would he do?
Yet if Kawaki stayed, how would the village treat him? And how would he face Boruto?
The First had told him that Kawaki still harbored a powerful desire to kill Boruto. Would he make another attempt on Boruto's life?
But Kawaki was a poor, troubled kid too...
Naruto felt as though his brain had turned to mush. On one hand, he pitied Kawaki and felt he should let him stay in Konoha. On the other, he felt that doing so would betray Boruto, and the rest of Konoha wouldn't agree to it either.
For a moment, Naruto felt utterly torn.
"Lord Hokage!"
An ANBU operative knocked on the door, then walked straight in.
"Lord Hokage, I have an urgent report. The village's hidden lookouts spotted two people on the street who appear to be the First and Madara Uchiha. They're heading toward the Hokage Building."
"The First and Madara Uchiha!"
At the news of those two, Naruto snapped out of his troubled thoughts and immediately stood up.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. They're already on their way here. We expect them to arrive at the Hokage Building in ten minutes."
Naruto made a swift decision.
"Quick, tell everyone to gather in the conference room. I'll wait for them at the entrance."
With that, Naruto immediately headed for the entrance to the Hokage Building.
But when he arrived, he found someone already waiting there.
