Background / History
Madara and Hashirama shared a childhood dream of founding a village. Their eventual alliance brought the Uchiha and Senju together to establish Konoha, but they disagreed over how peace should spread beyond it. Madara considered conquest and unified rule; Hashirama opposed further wars and favored love and mutual understanding. Madara later argued that the peace they achieved had depended primarily on Hashirama’s overwhelming strength 129 291.
Disillusioned with Konoha, Madara tried to persuade the Uchiha to leave with him, but none followed. He subsequently controlled the Nine-Tails and attacked the village, confronting Hashirama at the Valley of the End. Although widely believed dead, he had planned to fake his death and escape. He later explained that defeating Hashirama was uncertain and that intervention by the other villages could disrupt a plan requiring many years to mature 5 130 334.
After awakening the Rinnegan, Madara arranged for Nagato to serve as their vessel and sought a representative who could continue his work after his death. Black Zetsu selected Obito, whom Madara approved. His intended endgame was resurrection followed by the Eye of the Moon Plan, but Tetsuya’s intervention—including taking Nagato as a disciple with Izuna—redirected those arrangements 115 128 544.
Appearance
- Restored form: Long, spiky black hair, crimson armor, and an imposing stance 279.
- Before resurrection: Physically frail and nearing death, despite retaining a commanding presence 128 129.
- Six Paths form: Grayish-white skin, white hair, and clothing embroidered with tomoe patterns 423.
- Original Rinnegan: Purple; his eye configuration changes repeatedly through transplantation and borrowing 400 422 432 541.
- Susanoo: A blue, armored giant with wings and two faces; its complete form has four arms and long swords 281 473.
Personality
Madara is proud, confrontational, and eager to test exceptional opponents. Immediately after his resurrection, he assumes his restored strength and Izuna’s Rinnegan will let him determine the Shinobi World’s future. Nevertheless, he can acknowledge defeat: after Tetsuya overwhelms him, he openly admits that Tetsuya has surpassed both him and Hashirama and insists that their wager remain binding 280 282.
His cynicism about peace coexists with intense personal attachments. He rejects Hashirama’s belief that everyone can understand one another, yet repeatedly seeks Hashirama’s return and greets his lasting resurrection with unrestrained excitement. His reunion with Izuna likewise overwhelms him emotionally and immediately revives his protective hostility toward Tobirama 279 291 398 445.
Madara places clan identity above allegiance to Konoha. He condemns Itachi’s sacrifice of the Uchiha and argues that the clan’s history predates the village. His view of the future eventually shifts toward Tetsuya’s unified world and expansion into space, which he finds more compelling than preserving the existing shinobi order 335 402.

- Possesses genjutsu among the abilities Tetsuya gains upon reviving him 279.
- Teaches Sasuke without holding back, treating him almost as a second younger brother 364.
Susanoo
- Manifests the Two-Faced, Four-Armed Susanoo, a complete blue warrior with wings and enormous blades 281 473.
- Uses its swords to split terrain, cut through large-scale techniques, and overwhelm sand defenses 295 396.
- Applies Susanoo armor to wooden constructs, combining its defense with Wood Release 282 296.
- With Six Paths power, enlarges Susanoo further and merges its four swords into one blade to defeat an alternate Hashirama’s Wood Buddha 474.
Wood Release
His restored body possesses Wood Release and Hashirama-cell enhancement 279 295.
- Deep Forest Emergence: Rapidly creates a vast forest across the battlefield 281.

- Wood Clones: Deceives Urashiki into impaling a wooden substitute 295.
- Wood Dragon and Wood Golem: Uses enormous constructs for attack, restraint, and combinations with Susanoo 281 296.
- True Several Thousand Hands: Reproduces Hashirama’s enormous Wood Buddha technique and wins their direct clash 398.
- Technique adaptation: Copies Tetsuya’s Wood Golem Technique during their duel and later turns a lightning-coated wooden spear into a growing restraint 281 296.
Fire Release
- Majestic Destroyer Flame: His frequently used large-scale fire technique; sets the battlefield forest ablaze 281 536.
- Matches Tetsuya’s Fire Release during their initial duel and acknowledges his skill 280.
- Chakra-absorbing opponents can neutralize his flames: Urashiki absorbs them with his basket and, in Crane Form, directly through his mouth 295 296.
Rinnegan
- Limbo: Border Jail: Creates invisible clones that assist him in combat. The narration links this power to his isolation and reliance on himself 202 536.
- Tengai Shinsei: Summons meteors. A second meteor overwhelms the alliance’s attempt to stop the first and devastates the battlefield 401 402.
- Absorption Seal: Forms a blue barrier that absorbs the chakra of Minato’s Rasengan 401.
- Uses his Rinnegan to suppress the Ten-Tails and draw it into his body, though the creature initially resists his control 422 423.
Kamui

- Enters the Kamui Dimension to confront Kakashi and transports Tsunade, Neji, and Jiraiya into it 404 405.
- Later gives up the eye in exchange for Tetsuya’s golden Rinnegan; it is eventually returned to Obito 422 432.
Taijutsu, Recovery, and Battle Strategy
- Delivers a high-speed kick that smashes Urashiki’s ribs and evades a barrage while airborne 295.
- Possesses healing without hand seals, immense chakra, Hashirama-cell enhancement, and a supply of senjutsu chakra in his restored state 279 295.
- Counters Urashiki’s time reversal through sustained area attacks, deception, pollen, and close combat rather than matching the time ability directly 295.
- Remains capable of fighting Kaguya after becoming a Ten-Tails jinchūriki; she cannot quickly settle their confrontation 427.
- Can detect White Zetsu surveillance with a glance at Six Paths level and later erases Black Zetsu with Six Paths power 470 478.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Crimson armor — Worn when he emerges from Tetsuya’s resurrection 279.
- Sealing scroll — Stores the Sharingan removed when he reinstalls his first recovered Rinnegan. He later keeps his resurrection-supplied Eternal Mangekyō pair sealed away 400 480.
- Gunbai — Leaves a gunbai that Obito retains in the Kamui Dimension. The similar weapon used by Tetsuya’s Izuna duplicate is a separate, system-obtained item 305.
- Ten-Tails Cub — Obtained from Jigen, then summoned and matured with the nine tailed beasts before Madara absorbs it 367 422 423.
Relationships
- Uchiha Izuna — Younger brother and the source of his original Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Their resurrection reunion is deeply emotional; Madara attacks Urashiki when he threatens Izuna 129 279 294.
- Hashirama Senju — Childhood friend, fellow Konoha founder, ideological opponent, and favorite rival. Madara later offers his stored Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan for an experiment that successfully gives Hashirama Rinnegan 129 445 480 536.
- Chiba Tetsuya — Initially an irreverent stranger using the name Tobi; later his resurrector, superior opponent, and leader. Madara participates in Tetsuya’s plans and accepts his vision of unification 128 280 282 394 402.
- Tobirama Senju — Longstanding enemy associated with Izuna’s death and Konoha’s treatment of the Uchiha. Their disputes continue after resurrection, especially over political responsibility for the clan’s destruction 21 279 331.
- Uchiha Sasuke — Student whom Madara regards almost as another younger brother. Their shared identity as Indra’s reincarnations reinforces his willingness to teach Sasuke everything he can 364.
- Uchiha Obito — Chosen representative and intended instrument of resurrection. Their later cooperation is marked by coercion, distrust, and an exchange of Rinnegan for Kamui 115 128 404.
- Nagato — Selected vessel for his Rinnegan. Tetsuya and Izuna’s mentorship prevents Nagato from following Madara’s intended course 137 544.
- Black Zetsu — Apparent subordinate who secretly manipulates him for Kaguya’s revival. Once informed of the deception, Madara becomes openly hostile and destroys an alternate-world Black Zetsu 115 400 471 478.
- Jigen / Isshiki Ōtsutsuki — Source of the Ten-Tails Cub Madara needs. Madara also questions him about the Sharingan supplied to Danzo 364 367.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Impersonation and the Hidden Survivor
- Izuna’s appearance under Madara’s name terrifies the villages and helps bring the Second Shinobi World War to an abrupt end. The real Madara remains separate from the masked fighter who defeats Hanzo 61 114 130 372.
- Tetsuya follows White Zetsu to Madara’s hideout, captures the guards, and presents a Mangekyō Sharingan identical to Izuna’s. Their alternating questions expose Madara’s political regrets and Tetsuya’s knowledge of his plans 128 129 130.
- Tetsuya reveals that Izuna has returned and offers to revive Madara in exchange for his service. Their wager later specifies that Madara will work for Tetsuya if the promised aliens appear; otherwise, Tetsuya must not interfere with his plans 130 282.
Resurrection and the Ōtsutsuki Threat
- Izuna brings gold for Madara’s recruitment, and Tetsuya spends half of it on the system resurrection. Tobirama seals the area to conceal the chakra disturbance 279.
- Madara challenges Tetsuya, escalating from Fire Release to Wood Release and Susanoo. Tetsuya’s Susanoo-armored Wood Buddha leaves him with only his head and part of his torso intact; the system restores him immediately 280 281 282.
- He fights Urashiki using Tetsuya’s intelligence, then develops new combinations of Wood Release and Susanoo against Urashiki’s transformed body 291 295 296.
- He accompanies Tetsuya and Izuna into Jigen’s dimension and secures the second Ten-Tails Cub 364 367.
War, Six Paths Power, and Unification
- Tetsuya authorizes his battlefield deployment after Kabuto receives Black Zetsu’s order to revive him. Madara arrives through Izuna’s portal and breaks Gaara’s sealing technique, freeing the reanimated Four Kage 394.
- Kabuto presents him as a specially prepared reanimation, but Madara is actually alive. He fights the Kage and the reanimated Hashirama before recovering a Rinnegan and unleashing two catastrophic meteors 396 397 398 400 402 404.
- After acquiring Kamui, he removes several fighters from Obito’s reach in accordance with Tetsuya’s wish for a happy ending 404 405.
- He matures and absorbs Jigen’s Ten-Tails, attains Six Paths power, confronts Kaguya, and eventually reclaims both original Rinnegan 422 423 424 427 432.
- Following Hashirama’s lasting resurrection, the two oversee Naruto and Sasuke’s duel as safeguards. Madara accompanies Hashirama when the latter ends the fighting and declares Konoha disbanded 445 449.
Alternate-World Intervention
The visiting Six Paths Madara and that world’s young Madara are distinct participants.
- Young Madara refuses greater power if it requires sacrificing Izuna, whose injuries Tetsuya stabilizes 470 471.
- Six Paths Madara impersonates his younger counterpart to attract Black Zetsu. He falsely claims Izuna has died, battles the local Hashirama, and wins by revealing power beyond the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan 472 473 474.
- Tetsuya shows young Madara two histories through genjutsu: an unaltered future ending in Black Zetsu’s betrayal, and the divergent history shaped by Tetsuya’s intervention 476.
- Six Paths Madara traps the local Black Zetsu in the Hokage Office and erases him, removing a major obstacle to his counterpart’s future 478 480.
Rinnegan Experiment and the Boruto-Era World
- Madara and Hashirama test whether transplanting Madara’s stored Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan can awaken Hashirama’s Rinnegan. The experiment succeeds; Hashirama’s new copying ability briefly causes Madara to mistake him for an impostor 480 536.
- In another Shinobi World, Madara absorbs a counterpart God Tree and gains additional strength. His arrival with Hashirama and Tetsuya alarms Konoha’s leadership 540 541 542.
- He distinguishes his own history from that timeline’s Madara, denying responsibility for Nagato’s destruction of Konoha because Tetsuya derailed those plans in his world 544.

Trivia
- “Tobi” is not Madara’s personal alias here. Tetsuya uses that false identity, while Izuna and Obito separately impersonate Madara 130 137 280 372.
- Sasuke rejects Itachi’s identification of the massacre’s masked accomplice as Madara because he has already met the real man 337.
- Madara dismisses the idea that being an Indra reincarnation defines him: he considers himself simply Madara, and values Hashirama rather than an interchangeable reincarnation of Asura 297.
- During the alternate-world expedition, he proposes bypassing his temporary stay by returning home and being summoned again 471.
