The sky was a clear blue, the blazing sun hung overhead, and only a few thin clouds drifted along the horizon. It was a rare day of fine weather.
On the ground below, Rex and the Night Elf walked steadily forward.
The camp was tightly guarded. Its proximity to the Night Elves had not made its defenders any less vigilant. Five armed Night Elves stood on either side of the entrance, keeping watch. Along the camp's wooden palisade, figures stood on thick tree trunks, their armor colored much like the surrounding trees. Concealed by those colors, they drew their bows and aimed at Rex and the Night Elf approaching the camp. They did not lower their guard simply because a Night Elf was walking in front of him.
The Jungle Stalkers concealed among the tree trunks were skilled at hiding, but Rex's senses were exceptionally keen. He had noticed them the moment their bows were aimed at him. Although a quick glance revealed nothing unusual, a little thought told him exactly where that faint sense of danger came from.
Rex showed no reaction and watched as the Night Elf in front of him handled matters.
"Luna, why are you back? Aren't you leading the patrol today?" Once a female Night Elf standing at the entrance recognized the approaching figure, she lowered the weapon she had been gripping tightly. Clearly acquainted with the Night Elf in front of Rex, she spoke up to ask.
"This is His Highness Rex of the Kingdom of Gilneas. He's here to see the Grand Priestess, so I'm showing him the way," the Night Elf explained.
