The ogres of Alterac City belonged to the Crushridge ogres, but the Crushridge ogres were not just the ogres of Alterac City.
That sounded convoluted, but it was actually easy to understand. The ogres of Alterac City were part of the Crushridge ogres, yet the name encompassed far more ogres than just them.
The Crushridge ogres were a powerful ogre tribe, but that powerful tribe had now splintered.
Like most ogre tribes, they had scattered across Azeroth. The Alterac Mountains merely held the greater part of their strength.
Their defeat back then had sent the ogre race fleeing. As a result, they were now spread throughout the world, and their presence could be seen everywhere.
Even in the Alterac Mountains, Alterac City was only their largest gathering place. There were still plenty of ogre settlements of all sizes elsewhere in the mountains.
The Alterac Mountains had rugged, complex terrain, dominated by mountains and trees. They were an ideal place to hide.
The ogres liked it here, as did the orcs and other races, such as the gnolls.
The fundamental reason was that, as humans grew stronger, they began squeezing out the other races' living space. Those races lacked the dwarves' strength to hold a vast territory, so they could only eke out a living in places like the Alterac Mountains, where the terrain was complex and concealment was easy.
Scouts were dispatched continuously, and reports about the ogres of Alterac City flowed into Rex's hands. As he read through them, his initial gravity gradually gave way to relief.
This time, the ogres of Alterac City had not united all the other forces in the Alterac Mountains into an Expeditionary Alliance to attack Peace Town.
They were the only ones taking action. Without the Syndicate, the other gnolls, or the orcs
