As the portal opened, Rex, Thrall, and their companions slowly stepped out.
In an instant, the light changed.
Hellfire Peninsula had still been bathed in brilliant sunshine, waves of heat pouring down from the sky and making the land unbearably hot. There were no real seasons there; every day was the same, all year round. Zangarmarsh, however, was different. The moment Rex passed through the portal and emerged on the other side, he felt a refreshing chill. The sky was no longer bright, but somewhat gloomy.
Beneath that dim sky, Rex raised his head and looked up. Towering plants filled his vision. Elsewhere, these plants would have been perfectly ordinary, many no larger than a palm. In Zangarmarsh, however, they had grown into enormous things. Even the most common mushrooms resembled gigantic, open umbrellas.
If it rained, Rex and his companions could easily shelter beneath those huge mushrooms.
This time, their portal had not taken them directly into the joint camp of the Alliance and the Horde.
Camps like this had defensive measures in place, especially against teleportation. Opening a portal directly inside the camp was simply impossible.
After all, everyone had to guard against a portal suddenly appearing inside their camp in the middle of the night, with enemy troops pouring through in an endless stream. Even the strongest camp would eventually fall under such circumstances. The strongest fortifications were often breached from within.
Cities, military camps, and other important locations all prohibited teleportation. Teleporting straight into them was simply impossible.
Although they could not teleport directly inside, the portal was not far from the camp at all. It stood just beyond the edge of the area where teleportation was forbidden.
After emerging, Rex and his companions headed toward the camp.
