Leaving Lordaeron City and returning had taken Rex more than a month, most of it spent traveling. His feet sank into a fine carpet as he climbed the stairs one step at a time. Everything in this most prosperous tavern in Lordaeron spoke of luxury. Carpets covered the floors, the walls gleamed, and the entire layout gave an impression of gilded splendor.

This was the Mermaid Inn, the most luxurious inn in all of Lordaeron. Powerful fighters patrolled it twenty-four hours a day, and a Ninth Rank expert oversaw its security. Not only was the setting excellent, but it was also exceptionally safe. The Mermaid name was famous throughout Lordaeron. It operated taverns as well as inns, and was a merchant consortium of considerable strength on the continent of Lordaeron.

"This way, please. We've kept your room ready for you," a beautiful woman standing before Rex said softly with a smile.

"Mm." Rex nodded, his manner rather cold. The beautiful woman paid it no mind, however, and her smile only grew brighter. Anyone who could afford to visit the Mermaid Inn was someone she could not afford to offend.

Once inside his room, Rex repeatedly brushed his pale fingers over his Spatial Ring. At last, unable to resist any longer, he took out a black crystal and began examining it closely. The Black Crystal was quite large; otherwise, it could never have been forged into a weapon. A dark aura streamed from it without end, filling Rex with instinctive revulsion.
