The man wore an ink-black robe edged in gold at its four corners. Its silver-embroidered patterns were exquisite, the design appearing and disappearing beneath the light: a black dragon entwined with a Nine-Tailed Fox, its tail wrapped tightly around the fox in a gesture of deep attachment. His clothes were clearly a matching set with Jiujiu's.

His black hair was gathered beneath a golden crown, his skin a cool white. Even beneath his elaborate layers of clothing, his tall, slender figure was beautifully proportioned. His flawless face was tinged with a sickly pallor.

His dark-gold eyes held only the person on the bed. His gaze was complicated; beneath that profound love, something else seemed to lurk... a hint of obsession, perhaps?

His gaze did not linger on Sen Lijiu for long. A moment later, he raised a pale, slender hand with well-defined joints. A ball of light slowly took shape in his palm before flowing into Sen Lijiu's body. He let out a muffled groan, his face paling as his figure suddenly turned translucent.

As he watched the light heal Sen Lijiu's hidden injuries and replenish his depleted energy, his slowly fading figure finally vanished altogether. Until the very last moment, his gaze remained fixed on Sen Lijiu, filled with reluctance to leave.

Sen Lijiu knew nothing of what had happened. His expression was peaceful, his white hair scattered around him, lending him an added touch of beauty. His eyes were tightly closed, yet it was easy to imagine what a sight they would be when they opened.

The Black Dragon Bracelet also silently returned to his wrist. A closer look would have revealed that the rubies forming the black dragon's eyes had dimmed considerably...

Outside the room, several people were discussing matters. The man beside their leader spoke.

"Ji Ying, this Edwin is clearly interested in His Highness the Ninth..."

Beside him, Ji Ying remained cold-faced and gave no answer. Feng Luo could tell at a glance that he was not listening. Having been his close friend for years, he was used to it. He spoke again.

"Ah~ I wonder how things are going on Liu Shang's end..."

At those words, Ji Ying finally reacted, murmuring:

"Liu Shang..."

Seeing him like this, Feng Luo understood all too well. He said no more and walked aside, his eyes filled with loneliness.

"What am I going to do? I think I'm starting to miss you..."

Behind the two of them, Aier pressed a hand to his forehead and deftly changed the subject.

"What should we do about Pupula?"

That worked. A cold gleam flashed through Ji Ying's red eyes, and his rabbit ears twitched slightly. He looked adorable, yet his words were steeped in ice.

"Assign a few people to watch her and give her a warning. If she dares lay a hand on His Highness the Ninth... I don't need to spell out what will happen to her, do I?"

Aier acknowledged the order and assigned the personnel.

Fifteen people suddenly appeared in the previously empty space. The shadow guard leading them knelt on one knee to receive the orders, then they departed as silently as they had arrived.

Seeing Ji Ying take action, Feng Luo did not remain idle either. His clothes, woven from golden feathers, reflected beautiful flashes of light as he moved. His dazzling golden hair was held up with nothing more than a jade hairpin.

A mark glowed in his palm, and a token carved with a phoenix appeared before him. It was the token unique to the Phoenix Royal Family. Feng Luo pressed a finger against it.

The ruby eyes of the phoenix on the token began to shine.

A phantom phoenix flew out of the token and slowly circled Feng Luo, trailing specks of starlight before coming to rest above and behind him.

It lent Feng Luo a much cooler, more aloof air. His earlier languor vanished, replaced by the bearing befitting the Phoenix Royal Family.

His phoenix-shaped eyes brightened slightly. In an instant, divine light burst forth, and a vast shower of fiery-red meteors appeared on the horizon, hurtling straight toward them.

Ji Ying's and Aier's expressions barely changed. Both had lived through that great battle and naturally had seen this before, though the sight still awed them.

The other shadow guards were nothing like the three of them. They had never witnessed such a sight. After all, who would not panic at a swarm of meteors charging straight at them? They were about to act when Feng Luo stopped them with a smile.

"They're allies. No need to panic."
