Despite the wounds covering his body, Jon did not pause for a moment.

He turned and walked toward Davos Seaworth.

The Onion Knight was leaning against a fallen beam. His left arm was wounded, hastily wrapped in a few strips of cloth, and blood was still seeping through.

Seeing Jon approach, he straightened and shook his head. "More than two hundred brothers of the Night's Watch died. The Wildlings lost even more. We haven't finished counting yet."

Jon nodded. "Has the tunnel been closed?"

"It's closed. The gate is shut," Davos said. "I've also reassigned the sentries on the Wall. Every stretch has someone watching it."

"How are the wounded?"

"We're still trying to save those we can. Those we can't are waiting to die," Davos said in a low voice.

Jon fell silent for a moment and asked nothing more.

He turned and headed elsewhere, assigning men to clear the rubble, carry away the bodies, and reinforce the damaged walls.

He passed collapsed houses and stepped over bodies, issuing orders to every man of the Night's Watch or Wildling he encountered.

No one questioned his orders. No one argued.

Those who had just survived the desperate battle saw that blood-soaked figure pass them and silently did as he said.

By the time everything was arranged, dawn was breaking.

Only then did Jon head toward the room where the gravely wounded Mance Rayder had been taken.

Jon entered and saw Mance Rayder lying on a wooden bed, with several Wildlings tending him.

Thick bandages covered Mance's chest, but blood had soaked through every layer and was still seeping out.
