King Ghidorah ignored the ships lagging behind. Instead, she lowered her enormous body almost to the water and skimmed swiftly across the bay, heading straight for the fog bank. The wind howled beneath her wings, yet her speed never slackened.
Viserys and Daenerys pressed themselves against King Ghidorah's back, keeping their eyes open against the oncoming sea wind and spray. They could clearly see that the Ironborn longship flying the little black flag had already sailed far ahead.
By the time they reached the edge of the fog bank, the ship had been all but swallowed by the gray-white sea mist. Only its stern and a section of its mast remained visible.
Without a moment's hesitation, as soon as Viserys gave the command, King Ghidorah's right head jerked upward. Dragonfire erupted from deep in her throat, driving straight into the gray-white wall of fog like a pillar of flame. It did not stray an inch, striking the section of stern still exposed outside the mist.
The longship's planks caught fire almost the instant the dragonfire touched them. Tongues of flame raced along the hull into the fog, bathing the surrounding gray-white mist in orange-red light.
The exposed section of mast barely swayed twice in the flames before snapping at its base with a sharp crack and toppling into the sea. A few sparks spilled from the stern into the water, where the churning waves quickly swallowed them.
King Ghidorah did not stop. Her right head dipped a little lower, and an even fiercer stream of dragonfire poured forth, tearing an opening straight through the thick gray-white fog. Mist billowed to either side, and the fire lit up everything around it.
