"He likes moving in various social circles, posing online as a rich heir and 'flaunting his wealth,' making money through advertising deals. He was detained for three months after drunkenly causing trouble and injuring someone. He was only recently released."
After sending Su Chuchu's boyfriend away, Su Jiansen received the personal profile his secretary had sent him.
He read it aloud without skipping a word, his voice flat, betraying neither pleasure nor anger.
"You met him at a party a year ago and started dating soon afterward. You were still together right up until he went to jail."
"So, Chuchu, is the baby you're carrying his?"
Su Jiansen set down the computer and looked at Su Chuchu across from him.
Su Chuchu was already a sobbing mess, completely incapable of answering his questions.
She didn't know how to answer, either.
She had only discovered she was pregnant nearly two months in. It wasn't that she hadn't considered an abortion, but the doctor had told her she had difficulty conceiving. If she terminated this pregnancy, she might never be able to have a child of her own again.
After much hesitation, she had decided to keep the baby. She was about to go abroad to study anyway, so she could use the opportunity to break up with him and keep it from her family, killing two birds with one stone.
Who could have known the baby's father would end up in jail for assault!
That made it even more important to keep her father from finding out she was pregnant.
Yet just days before she was due to leave the country, he had found out in this way!
"Our family doesn't have a tradition of arranged marriages, and I don't interfere in your private lives. Who you spend time with or date is your own business. I trust you and your sister to handle your relationships, and your brother too, when he's older."
Su Jiansen's tone grew grave. "But no matter how much freedom you have, you can't just bring a baby into the family without saying a word, can you?"
"And the baby's father has a criminal record..."
"Honey." Wei Shufen interrupted him unhappily. "The assault only happened in the last few months. Our Chuchu is a victim too."
Su Jiansen wearily rubbed between his brows. First, he had learned what the future held for Xia Jing and Tang Beichen, then about Su Chuchu's intentions, and now about her pregnancy and the identity of the baby's father...
In just two hours, he had been bombarded with so much unbelievable information that his head was spinning.
Had he trusted his children too much and neglected to teach them properly?
His head aching, Su Jiansen closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them again, he watched Su Chuchu in silence for a long while. "From your attitude, you intend to keep this baby. And at this stage of the pregnancy, an abortion would take a toll on your health..."
He looked at Wei Shufen. "Chuchu is going abroad in a few days. Shufen, go with her."
Thinking he had accepted the situation and wanted her to accompany Su Chuchu overseas to give birth, Wei Shufen smiled in relief.
But before she could express her gratitude, Su Jiansen continued.
"Chuchu should focus on her studies abroad. Don't come back for the next few years."
Wei Shufen's expression froze, her smile vanishing. Su Chuchu even stopped crying.
Mother and daughter abruptly raised their heads and stared at him, dumbfounded and disbelieving.
"Honey!"
"Dad!"
"I'll have someone arrange everything. You can go without worrying."
"No, honey, hear me out first..."
Su Jiansen gave them no chance to respond and stood up.
Even if that man hadn't shown up today, his secretary would have uncovered the truth sooner or later, and he would still have sent Su Chuchu away.
He had already made that decision on his way home.
He could not, and would not, stand by and watch his own daughter be bullied again.
At lunchtime, Tang Beichen received a message from his secretary.
[Mr. Tang, it's been taken care of.]
[He went straight to the Su residence and ran into Su Jiansen, Su Chuchu, and her family as they returned at the entrance to their residential complex.]
His secretary sent a few more updates, but Tang Beichen had no interest in reading them. He locked his phone and ate in peace.
Tang Tang had slept too much the night before. Even after eating and drinking her fill, she still wasn't sleepy, so she lay in her crib, clutching the gold jewelry her grandfather had just given her and staring into space.
After the meal, Tang Beichen poured a cup of hot water for himself and another for Su Xiajing.
He took a sip, set down his cup, and went over to lift Tang Tang out of her crib. Then he took a document from his briefcase and handed it to Su Xiajing.
"I've had the lawyer redraft the divorce agreement. Take a look."
Tang Tang immediately perked up even more.
My scumbag dad actually brought up the divorce himself?
Not bad, not bad. He deserves some praise.
Tang Beichen: "..."
The little one was pretty heartless.
She wasn't reluctant to part with him at all!
Su Xiajing gave him a surprised look, took the divorce agreement, and opened it to read.
"The division of assets... Why did you..."
Su Xiajing looked up in shock.
This divorce agreement was essentially the same as the one she had drafted. The only change was the division of their marital assets.
In Tang Beichen's revised divorce agreement, apart from the equity in his company that couldn't be transferred and similar holdings, he had actually given her all the funds, cash, and real estate in his name?!
