"Aren't you leaving?" An Shi turned back to look at the deathly pale middle-aged man, his expression cold. The man's legs were already trembling.
The neighbors gossiping around them all looked alarmed. None had left yet, but one after another, they took a few steps back.
Just then, a plainly dressed man wearing a black baseball cap emerged from the passage on the other side and slipped unobtrusively through the crowd.
As he walked, he abruptly changed direction and slammed into Lin Xingye's back.
"Ah!" Lin Xingye was still reeling from the discovery that there was actually a corpse inside. With all the noise around him, he hadn't noticed the man.
He stumbled forward several steps and collided with the middle-aged man directly ahead of him. Already shaking with fear, the man screamed at the sudden impact and toppled forward too.
An Shi instinctively dodged aside. There was no way he could support a man that heavy. All he could do was hurriedly catch Lin Xingye behind him before he kissed the ground. "What happened?"
There were too many people gathered behind them, and the man wasn't particularly tall. An Shi hadn't seen who had done it.
Crash!
The middle-aged man was too heavy, and the already dilapidated wooden door collapsed beneath him. Before he even realized what had happened, he grimaced and started picking himself up off the floor.
"That hurt! Who shoved me?" He was cursing as he tried to clamber out when he suddenly noticed the wooden door pinned beneath him. His entire body froze.
Trembling, he slowly turned his head. "Aaaah!"
The man scrambled out in abject terror. Despite his burly build, he burst into tears on the spot. "There's a dead body! A dead body!"
Everyone else cried out in alarm, but curiosity got the
