"But..."
Jiang Shuyue looked at Lan Ruoyue and asked in surprise, "Miss Lan, are you particularly fond of that outfit? You've actually worn the same one for days."
Pfft!
Zhou Luming burst out laughing without the slightest decorum.
In her opinion, it probably wasn't that Lan Ruoyue didn't want to change, but that she couldn't.
Everyone else realized it too.
Disdain appeared on several porters' faces. It was hardly dignified for grown men to scowl at a young girl, but they couldn't help themselves.
This girl couldn't even afford new clothes, yet she had the nerve to dodge her debts. Shameless!
Lan Ruoyue snapped, "I-I wear it because I like it!"
"Oh, I see! It's not that you haven't changed, Miss Lan. You've had lots of identical outfits made!"
Zhou Sesong laughed without a shred of decorum either. "The clothes are nothing special, but different flowers please different eyes. If you like them, Miss Lan, having eighty or a hundred sets made would be perfectly reasonable."
Lan Ruoyue's pride wouldn't allow her to admit that she only had one outfit.
She could only grit her teeth and nod.
"This outfit means a great deal to me, and I treasure it. So even though it isn't valuable or eye-catching, I still hope you'll respect it."
Jiang Shuyue was speechless. Did this outfit bring peace to the country, or did some mighty elder once wear it? She wants me to respect a shabby set of clothes? What a joke!
Huahua chimed in with a complaint. She didn't even buy it. She got hungry on the road, and a family selling tofu took her in and cared for her for two days. The woman had a fiancé who'd given her an outfit and some jewelry. They were planning to marry next month.
