History

Itachi’s Betrayal

Sasuke’s safety becomes a central means of manipulating Itachi. Hiruzen and Danzo persuade his older brother to participate in a purge of the Uchiha Clan while promising to protect Sasuke. Before the planned attack, Itachi shares an unusually tender farewell with him, touching his forehead and apologizing 31 66 68.

The massacre is prevented, and Sasuke instead sees Itachi publicly displayed as a condemned traitor. Uchiha Yao explains that Itachi intended to kill their parents and clan while leaving Sasuke alive to grow through hatred. Horrified, Sasuke declares that he hates his brother and flees 100 101.

At Mikoto’s urging, Sasuke later visits the dying Itachi at the Naka River. Their final meeting ends with Itachi’s apology and death. Yao tells Sasuke that his brother’s intended protection would have trapped him in revenge, while identifying Konoha’s leadership as responsible for turning Itachi against his family 106.

Rejection and Rivalry with Naruto

Fugaku and Mikoto ask Yao to accept Sasuke as a disciple, although Sasuke himself insists that he does not need a teacher. Yao’s system records his loyalty at 40% and warns of a high betrayal risk. Yao refuses the request and warns him that the Uchiha’s future has no place for someone living in the past 110.

Naruto’s subsequent acceptance as Yao’s disciple intensifies Sasuke’s resentment. After losing a school exercise to Naruto, Sasuke begs Fugaku for merciless training; his father increases the regimen tenfold 130 139.

Their next major contest exposes Sasuke’s limited endurance. Although he initially dominates through taijutsu, Naruto’s Multiple Shadow Clones exhaust him. Graduation Dispute

When Naruto and Hinata seek early graduation, Sasuke decides to follow rather than fall behind. Mikoto supports him but warns him never to become like Itachi, provoking an angry response 313.

During the graduation assessment, Sasuke attacks Naruto, turning their rivalry into a disciplinary matter. He also uses Chidori to escape Gaara’s sand restraints. Brought before Yao, he openly admits his jealousy of Naruto’s success 317 318 319.

Yao punishes him with the Cycle of Life and Death genjutsu, making him experience Naruto’s childhood hunger, rejection, and abuse. Sasuke emerges shaken and recognizes that Naruto’s former life was far harsher than he had understood 320.

Sasuke later takes a ten-minute graduation examination against Special Jonin Kimura Tsukasa. His Sharingan allows him to withstand Kimura’s close-range attacks, and his Dragon Fire overwhelms the examiner’s Phoenix Sage Fire. The supplied account ends during Kimura’s counterattack through dense steam, without establishing the result 348.

Meeting His Parallel-World Counterpart

While serving in the Police Force, Sasuke notices a suspicious one-armed traveler accompanying Boruto. He follows them, summons police reinforcements, and attacks the stranger, only to discover that the man possesses both Sharingan and Susanoo 422 423.

The visitor identifies himself as an adult Sasuke from another world. Yao explicitly clarifies that he is not the younger Sasuke’s inevitable future. Learning that Itachi successfully massacred the clan in that world finally resolves Sasuke’s lingering doubts about whether his own brother’s punishment was excessive 425 426.

After Urashiki’s defeat, Sasuke leads the visitors to his family home, allowing his adult counterpart to meet the living Mikoto 432 433.

War and Mangekyō Awakening

Fugaku initially refuses to let Sasuke enter the battlefield. Sasuke demonstrates his three-tomoe Sharingan and a lightning technique tinged with Fire nature, earning his father’s acknowledgment and assignment to Shunichi’s assault squad 448.

The appearance of the reanimated Itachi reignites his fury. Meanwhile, fighting beside Naruto and Gaara leaves Sasuke frustrated by the gap between his abilities and their tailed-beast power 456 457 460.

Inside Tsukuyomi, Itachi persuades Fugaku to stage his own death to trigger Sasuke’s Mangekyō. Believing his father has died in his arms, Sasuke awakens the eyes and attacks Itachi with Susanoo, Amaterasu, and Kagutsuchi. Fugaku remains alive and continues the deception while Sasuke fights 461 462 463.

The awakening does not make Sasuke Itachi’s equal. He cooperates with Naruto and receives protection from Gaara, but is eventually incapacitated by Tsukuyomi. Yao intervenes before Itachi’s Totsuka Blade can strike him and Gaara 466 467 475.

Land of Lightning Campaign and Aftermath

Sasuke subsequently leads an Uchiha vanguard into the Land of Lightning, using Susanoo to overwhelm border defenders. The unit destroys nearly all the border outposts within two hours before rejoining Jiraiya’s main army 498.

Against the Third Raikage, Sasuke’s Susanoo is pierced and his ninja blade shattered. Naruto joins him before Kakashi and Might Guy take over the engagement. Sasuke then fights the reanimated jinchuriki, reaches third-stage Susanoo, and burns the Five-Tails with Amaterasu. Personality

Sasuke strongly identifies with his reputation as an Uchiha genius. He initially treats Naruto as an inferior “dead last,” making Naruto’s victories—and selection as Yao’s disciple—particularly difficult to accept. His jealousy eventually becomes severe enough to provoke an attack on a fellow examinee 130 148 319.

That pride also sustains exceptional perseverance. He trains beyond exhaustion, asks Fugaku for harsher instruction, and continues Chidori practice alone at night. Kakashi recognizes his determination but warns that impatience and fixation on surpassing others interfere with precise chakra control 139 188 190 191.

Family and clan loyalty remain central to him. His feelings toward Itachi combine affection, hatred, shame, and lingering doubt before his parallel counterpart’s testimony brings him relief. He is similarly uncompromising toward Obito’s betrayal 313 426 596.
