Background

Sasuke initially idolizes his older brother, Itachi, and trains with the ambition of becoming a powerful shinobi like him 68. His world collapses when Uchiha Yao publicly identifies Itachi as the clan's traitor and details his attempted attack on Fugaku. Sasuke tries to reach his bound brother but is restrained by other clansmen 100. Unable to reconcile his love for Itachi with the betrayal, he withdraws into grief and hatred until Mikoto urges him to see Itachi one final time 106.

Fugaku and Mikoto later ask Yao to take Sasuke as a disciple. Sasuke resists the request, while Yao refuses it because Sasuke's hatred, confusion, and unstable state make him too risky to trust 110. At the Ninja Academy, Sasuke becomes fixated on proving Uchiha superiority and treating Naruto as an obstacle to be crushed 148. Naruto's Shadow Clone Technique overwhelms him despite the Sharingan, deeply wounding his pride 149.

Fugaku responds by training Sasuke harshly and demanding that he master Fire Style: Dragon Fire Technique within a week. Sasuke accepts the pressure because he is determined to surpass Naruto and win his father's recognition 177. Yao later arranges Lightning Release training for him, assigning Kakashi to teach him Chidori so that Sasuke's Sharingan can compensate for the technique's dangerous high-speed blind spot 184.

Sasuke eventually leads an elite Uchiha Hunting Squad against rogue ninja. During the pursuit of former Iwagakure jonin Kurokawa, he uses Chidori Senbon and Chidori to break through Earth Release defenses, then stops his final strike just short of Kurokawa's chest to take him alive 348. Fugaku later recognizes Sasuke's Three-tomoe Sharingan and composite Chidori, assigning him to an assault squad in the coming war 446.

His confidence suffers another blow when Chidori cannot pierce Kinkaku's Tailed Beast Cloak. Naruto and Gaara defeat the Gold Brothers through coordinated Tailed Beast attacks, leaving Sasuke feeling powerless and unnecessary 458. Itachi and Fugaku subsequently arrange Fugaku's apparent death to force Sasuke's Mangekyō awakening. Believing his father has been killed, Sasuke's grief and hatred trigger the Mangekyō Sharingan, Amaterasu, Kagutsuchi, and Susanoo 459 460.

Parallel-world counterpart

An adult, one-armed Sasuke from a parallel future arrives in Konoha with Boruto. He initially attempts to conceal his identity, but his younger self senses their shared bloodline and alerts the Police Force 420. The adult Sasuke defeats his younger counterpart with ease, then reveals his Mangekyō Sharingan and Susanoo to shield Boruto from the Police Force's Fire Release attacks 421 422.

After Uchiha Yao transports them to Heavenly Imperial Space, adult Sasuke confirms that he is the teenage Sasuke's future counterpart. He reveals that, in his world, Itachi exterminated the Uchiha Clan, including their parents 423. He later fights alongside Yao against Otsutsuki Urashiki, protecting Yao from Urashiki's Chakra attacks with the Kusanagi Sword 427. After Urashiki's defeat, he remains in Yao's world long enough to reunite with the living Mikoto and experience the peaceful Uchiha Clan his own world lost 430 431.

Sasuke is intensely proud of his Uchiha heritage. This pride becomes a driving force behind his training, his desire for Fugaku's acknowledgement, and his unwillingness to accept being surpassed 177 446.

His competitiveness can become destructive. After Naruto overwhelms him and later displays greater power alongside Gaara, Sasuke experiences humiliation, jealousy, and a growing fear of being left behind 149 458. However, he is also capable of discipline and restraint: as Hunting Squad leader, he captures Kurokawa alive rather than killing him with Chidori 348.
