Skywave City.
As the four figures entered the city one after another, all of them let out a long sigh of relief.
"We're finally back! Come on, let's head to the Heavenly Prison and turn in the mission first." Xu Fang's booming voice rang out before he turned to Ye Wuyou.
The burly man grinned, then walked over and gave Ye Wuyou a punch, declaring heartily,
"I don't know how you did it, but at least you made it back safe and sound. Come on, let's turn in the mission, then drinks are on me."
"I'll tell you a few things about our Heavenly Prison while we're at it. Our captain, for instance-now that's someone incredible..."
Before he could finish, Ye Wuyou extended his left hand and offered him a token from his waist.
That spectral blue left hand, so terrifying and hideous just last night, now looked entirely ordinary.
[In Three-Foot Alley at the right corner of the city gate, a woman is secretly watching you with ill intent. Her measurements are...]
His gaze briefly swept across a corner of the city gate, then withdrew.
"I have something to take care of. Collect my reward for me. I'll come find you afterward."
Xu Fang was just about to ask what it was when Lin Qingqing took the token first and dragged him away.
"You wench, are you asking for a beating?"
"Don't ask what you shouldn't, you idiot!"
Once the others had gone, Ye Wuyou glanced at his arm, then headed into the alley beside him.
Through his own eyes, Ye Wuyou could see his left arm's true appearance, but to everyone else, it looked normal.
It was merely an illusion, cast through his restored Crimson Right Eye.
Of course, that uncanny eyeball could not possibly be as simple as something that helped him see.
He had stayed awake all night, and through the narrator's scattered remarks and his own repeated attempts, he had discovered the eye's peculiar ability.
Illusions.
Through his uncanny right eye, he could cast illusions he had never known how to use.
This time, he had simply chosen his own arm as the target.
Of course, he could also use an illusion to make his eye look ordinary again, but after some thought, he had decided against it.
One less complication was better than one more. An eye blinded just yesterday, healed the very next day-how would he explain it if Lin Qingqing and the others asked?
He wondered whether this method truly had no side effects.
[You sneer, a thousand thoughts flashing through your mind. To you, great Dao remnants are nothing but trash, and this thing bearing great Dao aura is trash among trash. This piece of junk was previously shut away and used as a bell. Had you not damaged an eye, it would never even have been worthy of appearing on your body.]
All right, all right...
The narrator's ceaseless flattery nearly went to Ye Wuyou's head after he heard enough of it, even though he let it go in one ear and out the other.
But he quickly suppressed his swelling ego and looked at the smiling woman in the alley.
"How did you spot me? I was planning to notify you once you reached the Heavenly Prison," Chun Tao said with a smile.
As she finished speaking, Chun Tao walked over to him. She first examined his bandaged eye, then circled him, her delicate brows drawing together as she spoke with a hint of reproach.
"Seriously, Little Ye? How did you lose an eye on one trip?"
"Something happened. It's nothing serious." Ye Wuyou chose to skip over the subject.
Seeing Chun Tao here, having come specifically to find him, the implication was self-evident.
"Zhao Changhe wants to see me?" he asked.
Chun Tao shook her head. "How would Lord Zhao know when you'd return? It's the Prison Warden who wants you."
Chun Tao's words left Ye Wuyou startled. How had the Prison Warden known when he would arrive in Skywave City?
Still, that worked out well. He had returned to the city intending to seek the man out anyway.
The narrator's utter bullshit yesterday had thoroughly destroyed Ye Wuyou's confidence.
He certainly could not wait quietly until his entire body took on an uncanny form before looking for a solution. That would be courting death.
He had only truly been able to control Ghost for half a month.
What would he become after half a year?
He could only seek another way to resolve the uncanny encroachment upon his body.
But ordinary people certainly could not help him with that. Even Xia Anmeng, who seemed to know everything, probably would not understand what was happening to him.
That left only the Prison Warden he had met once.
Because the man quite clearly had a great Dao remnant within him as well.
And from what he had said that day, he seemed to want to take Ye Wuyou as his disciple?
A short while later, Ye Wuyou met the mysterious Prison Warden in an upper room.
Chun Tao left after bringing him to the door. The nearby streets were quiet and deserted; he did not know whether they were normally empty or had been deliberately cleared.
A soothing scent of sandalwood incense drifted through the room. Several goldfish darted about in a tank, and bookshelves lined the surrounding walls, packed tightly with books Ye Wuyou could not even understand.
Ye Wuyou drew his gaze back from the room and looked toward the figure by the window, whose entire bearing exuded a scholarly air.
He looked less like a prison warden and more like a middle-aged man of letters-or, to put it less kindly, a pedantic old scholar.
He did not know much about the man before him. After all, their acquaintance amounted to that one punch on the eighth floor of the Heavenly Prison.
He knew only that the man was named Lu Qingshan, a Fifth Realm cultivator with mighty divine abilities, and the warden of the Heavenly Prison.
And that, like him, the man seemed to carry a great Dao remnant.
A soft rustle of turning pages sounded. Lu Qingshan was reading a book with complete concentration, as though unaware that someone else was in the room.
Ye Wuyou frowned, but rather than interrupting immediately, he focused his attention behind the man.
He could see great Dao remnants, so he wanted to get a clear look at the uncanny thing within Lu Qingshan.
An illusory figure emerged behind Lu Qingshan. Its human shape was visible, but its features remained indistinct, as though behind a hazy curtain.
Ye Wuyou strained to see more clearly.
Under his scrutiny, the illusory figure finally grew clearer, bit by bit.
But just as Ye Wuyou was about to make out its face, the illusory figure seemed to notice something. It turned its head slightly and looked toward him.
Snap.
The book closed in Lu Qingshan's hands, and his gentle, composed voice sounded at the same time.
"Stop staring. It isn't good for you."
Feeling the man's gaze upon him, Ye Wuyou hesitated, then cupped his fist and bowed, about to say something.
But Lu Qingshan spoke again, his tone as calm and even as before.
"Your left hand has already become like this? So quickly. I thought it would take at least three months for the first signs to appear."
Perhaps he was in a good mood, because the Prison Warden even cracked a joke.
"You've been away less than half a month, yet you've ended up like this. You must have overused it. Surely you weren't using that remnant to slap every dog you saw by the roadside?"
The joke was not funny, and Ye Wuyou certainly could not laugh.
The subject weighed too heavily on him, because earlier, he had even wished he could use the ghost hand to eat.
His pupils contracted slightly. He was not surprised that the man could see through the illusion concealing his arm.
What concerned him was the information in the man's words.
He had not called it an "uncanny thing," as ordinary people would, but a remnant.
This Prison Warden seemed to know a great deal about these great Dao remnants.
He raised his head to look at the man, meeting his warm gaze.
Lu Qingshan watched Ye Wuyou quietly, seemingly unsurprised by the arm. His gaze swept across Ye Wuyou's simply bandaged eye.
"You can take that off. Afterward, just say I cured your eye," Lu Qingshan said.
Ye Wuyou removed the strip of cloth over his eye, revealing that eerie crimson iris.
Of course, to an outsider, this eye of Ye Wuyou's would look normal.
But the man before him was no such outsider.
Ye Wuyou stood there quietly. He had not spoken a word since entering.
Yet it seemed the man had seen through everything about him.
Looking at the smiling Lu Qingshan before him, a thought arose in his mind.
Was there anything this man didn't know?
As though to confirm his thought, Lu Qingshan smiled faintly and spoke in a composed voice.
"Ye Wuyou, ask me anything you wish. After all, I'm the one who sent for you."
"I know everything."
