Azure Cloud County was hardly a large place, and there were only a handful of well-known physicians in its county seat. Su Guangju recognized the physician who had fallen: Liu Danggui, the proprietor of Spring Return Hall. The hall stood right next to the Good Fortune Inn, making the two men neighbors. The servants cursed at him. "A worthless, unscrupulous quack like you dares come here and put on airs? If you delay our second young master's treatment, we'll take your miserable life!"
The gates of the Wan Residence slammed shut with a bang! Though a large crowd had gathered, no one volunteered to help. It was not that human hearts had turned cold or the world had grown callous; the Wan Family was simply too wealthy and powerful, and ordinary people were afraid of offending them.
Only after the gates closed did Su Guangju dare go over and help Liu Danggui up. Full of sympathy, he asked, "Proprietor Liu, what on earth happened?"
Recognizing Su Guangju, Liu Danggui looked dejected and heaved a long sigh. "Brother Guangju, it's a long story!"
Hu Xiaotian and Murong Feiyan helped gather up his medicine chest. Liu Danggui had twisted his ankle when he fell, so Su Guangju called a carriage and accompanied him all the way back to Spring Return Hall. Just before they arrived, however, Liu Danggui changed his mind. He did not dare go straight home and asked to rest at the Good Fortune Inn instead. His son, Liu Kuohai, was upright but hot-tempered. If he learned that the Wan Family's people had beaten his father, he would charge over to fight them to the death, heedless of the consequences. The Wan Family's wealth and power made them people a household like his could never afford to offend.
