After hearing her daughter's explanation, Shen Shuyi was convinced. She had known the answer couldn't be that simple.
Especially when she heard her daughter's final remark-
"If I were Vivian, I wouldn't have left such a clear set of fingerprints on the murder weapon, let alone just one set. It was too perfect, which only made it suspicious!"
When your understanding differed from most people's, that didn't necessarily mean you were wrong. As long as you had enough evidence to support your view, you should stand by it.
Shen Shuyi looked at her daughter with pride. Her daughter wasn't like her love-blinded mother, who had foolishly let herself be deceived and planted the seeds of her family's destruction.
Her daughter could think independently, form her own opinions, and stand firm.
She felt so fortunate to have such a special daughter!
"Mom, today was your first official day at work. How did it feel?" Shen Banxia asked with concern and curiosity.
Too bad I had school. Otherwise, I'd have loved to go to the company with her and get a front-row seat to the drama!
Hearing her daughter's thoughts, Shen Shuyi didn't know whether to laugh or cry. After a moment's consideration, she replied,
"It felt wonderful!"
Before this, she had been a little anxious, worried that once she started working, she'd be running around like a headless chicken, with no idea where to begin.
She hadn't expected it to feel so good in practice.
When she sat in the spacious, bright office, looking at the documents and financial statements her secretary brought in,
it was as though something had suddenly clicked. Her mind cleared, her senses sharpened, and she could quickly identify the key points.
She even regretted not joining the Shen Corporation right after graduation. By delaying until now, she had missed out on so much.
She had once trusted Xu Junshan far too much and felt no sense of danger, so she had left everything to him. He could have sold her out, and she would have helped him count the money.
"Looks like you've found the right direction in life, Mom." Shen Banxia was happy for her mother.
Now I'm kind of looking forward to seeing Mom become a powerhouse career woman. She'll definitely be fierce, decisive, and unstoppable.
Shen Shuyi nodded with a gratified smile. She looked forward to that day, too.
She had been a full-time homemaker for nearly twenty years. Though she had kept up with fashion, she had long since fallen out of touch with society in other respects, let alone being ready to suddenly take over a major company.
The Board of Directors had elected her chair only because she held a controlling stake. Another reason might have been that she was a newcomer and therefore easier to control.
Fortunately, she had spent the past year studying and following current events so she could fulfill her responsibilities.
That had kept her from falling apart completely after seeing Xu Junshan's true colors.
After dinner, Shen Banxia curled up on the living room sofa and scrolled through her phone. Shen Lingyun had just returned and was about to change and head out again, looking rather rushed.
"Big brother!"
"Seventh Sister, it was your first day at your new school today. Are you settling in?" Seeing his youngest sister, Shen Lingyun still stopped to ask after her.
"I am. Big brother, are you going out again in a bit?"
"Yes. How did you know?" Shen Lingyun asked with a smile.
"You look like you're in a hurry. I bet you're rushing off to a date!"
"You guessed it. I'm having dinner with your future sister-in-law, and I'm almost late. We'll talk when I get back." With that, Shen Lingyun headed toward the stairs.
Big brother's being cheated on so badly it's practically flashing in neon, and he doesn't even know it!
Fu Ya really is a bold, cunning player. Otherwise, she wouldn't have him wrapped around her finger while he happily enjoyed every second.
Suddenly, Shen Lingyun's feet felt as heavy as lead, and every step became a struggle.
"Seventh Sister, are you free tonight?" Shen Lingyun turned back and asked a moment later.
"I need to review my lessons. Do you need something, big brother?" Shen Banxia replied, looking puzzled.
"Have Third Brother help you study when we get back. I'll take you out for something delicious."
"But I've already had dinner!"
Though I could still fit in a late-night snack. Studying is nowhere near as interesting as watching drama unfold.
"That's fine. Think of it as a late-night snack. You can meet your future sister-in-law, too. I'll change, then take you out."
Wow, another front-row seat to the drama tonight! What an unexpected surprise.
Shen Lingyun nearly missed a step, giving himself a fright.
What did Seventh Sister mean by that? Was something going to happen tonight?
Shen Lingyun went upstairs to change. Rather than simply waiting, Shen Banxia returned to her own walk-in closet and picked out another outfit as well.
After all, things might turn into a brawl tonight. She needed something that made it easy to fight-no, easy to dodge or run away, so she wouldn't get caught in the crossfire. Something lightweight and sturdy.
After changing, Shen Lingyun came downstairs to find his youngest sister already dressed and waiting for him.
He hadn't expected her to be faster than him.
"Why didn't you change into something pretty?" Shen Lingyun asked with an amused, helpless smile as he looked at her tracksuit.
"This outfit is pretty!" Shen Banxia looked down at herself and replied with complete confidence.
Shen Lingyun couldn't argue with that. After all, confidence was the best makeup.
Shen Banxia marched out with her big brother, full of spirit.
Otherwise, she would still have been trying to decide which brother to ask to take her out tonight so she could get in on the drama without raising suspicion.
"Big brother, if you bring a third wheel like me along on your date, won't my future sister-in-law mind?" Shen Banxia asked with feigned innocence.
"No. I've brought Mingyue before, too, and the two of them got along really well." Shen Lingyun smiled and shook his head.
"But I'm not Mingyue!"
"You're my sister, too-my biological sister, at that. Fu Ya will like you as well. Don't worry."
Big brother seems a little too optimistic!
He has no idea Fu Ya's set a trap tonight and is just waiting for him to take the bait. Instead, he's bringing a third wheel like me along!
The look on Fu Ya's face when she sees me is going to be priceless!
Shen Lingyun turned to glance at his youngest sister, his heart churning with unease.
Could Seventh Sister predict the future?
When they arrived at the Lotus Pavilion,
a server led Shen Lingyun and Shen Banxia to the Orchid Private Room they had reserved.
Shen Banxia turned to look at her big brother, and Shen Lingyun's hair stood on end almost reflexively.
Big brother would never imagine that while he's having dinner here with Fu Ya, her lover is waiting for her in the private room next door.
In a moment, she'll come out of that room, walk into his, and have dinner with him. She's practically a master of time management.
Shen Lingyun frowned. Fu Ya had another man behind his back?
"Seventh Sister, go in first. I'm going to the restroom!"
Shen Banxia nodded and entered the private room first.
Fu Ya hadn't arrived yet. Since Shen Banxia was already full anyway, all she had to do was sit back and wait for the show.
After calling Fu Ya, Shen Lingyun stood in the shadows around a corner. Sure enough, before long, he saw Fu Ya emerge from the private room next door.
When the door opened, he saw the man inside who had walked her to the doorway and was still reluctant to part with her.
It was none other than Liu Ziyan, one of the buddies he hung out with.
Shen Lingyun clenched his fists, veins bulging.
Then he remembered what his youngest sister had just said about Fu Ya setting a trap for him, and forced his anger down.
He wanted to see exactly what kind of trap Fu Ya had laid for him!
