"Now I really can't slack off even if I want to..." Lin Hao gritted his teeth.

The violent energy storm was still raging through the Research Station, sending every table and chair flying into the air. Lin Hao shielded May behind him. Amid the dazzling golden light, the shadow hovering in midair finally came into clear view.

It had no wings or sharp fangs. It was just a palm-sized little thing with snow-white fur and long ears. It was unmistakably an Eevee!

But a mystic golden divine rune was emblazoned on its forehead! Golden light continued to swirl through the rune, radiating a suffocating pressure.

The system panel in Lin Hao's mind was flashing red frantically: [Warning! Unknown mythic law mutant detected! Warning! No Pokédex entry found!]

The white Runic Eevee blinked its big, watery eyes in midair and looked around. When its gaze landed on Lin Hao, its eyes lit up. "Vee!" It let out a shrill cry, turned into a white blur, and flew straight at him!

"Holy shit! Stay away!" Lin Hao stumbled half a step back in fright.

But Runic Eevee was too fast. With a smack, it plastered itself right onto Lin Hao's face. It stuck out its tiny pink tongue and licked his cheeks frantically. An intense surge of attachment flooded straight into Lin Hao's brain through telepathy. Daddy! Daddy! Cuddles!

Lin Hao froze on the spot. "I'm not your dad! I don't even have a girlfriend!" He hurriedly reached up to peel the Eevee off his face.

The system space in his mind erupted into chaos. "How dare you!" Ho-Oh's piercing shriek made Lin Hao's head throb. "Where did this stray fox come from? How dare it cling to Master's face! Let me out! One blast of Sacred Fire, and I'll roast it into a bald-tailed dog!"

Mewtwo sounded curious. "Master, it contains some unknown chaos law. I suggest dissecting it for research. I can perform the procedure."

Groudon: "Roar! (Crush it! Crush it!)"

"All of you, shut up!" Lin Hao snarled through clenched teeth. "Anyone who dares come out gets a hundred years in solitary confinement!"

The system space fell silent. In the real world, Lin Hao finally pulled Runic Eevee off his face and held it by the scruff of its neck. Its legs flailed in the air as it pouted. "Vee..."

"My God! A miracle! This is a mythical miracle!" Ake's hoarse shout came from beside them as the researcher crawled out of the pile of scrap metal. His hair stood on end, one lens of his glasses was broken, and his eyes were bloodshot.

"It actually chose a master! It's a Psychic-type life-form containing a mythic law!" Researcher Ake rushed up to Lin Hao and threw his arms around his leg. "You! You're no ordinary person!"

Lin Hao's face went blank. "I really am an ordinary person. I just deliver takeout."

"Bullshit! Can a delivery guy calm Mythical energy?" Researcher Ake stood up and pulled a syringe from his lab coat pocket. It was a full half meter long and as thick as a thumb.

"What are you planning to do with that thing?" Lin Hao's eyelid twitched wildly.

"Draw blood! I'm going to draw your blood!" Ake's eyes gleamed with a ravenous light. "You have a special magnetic field that attracts Mythical Genes! I need to extract your genetic material! I need tissue samples from your entire body for comparison!"

"Isn't that syringe meant for elephants?" Clutching Eevee, Lin Hao backed away.

"Don't run! For science! Give me two liters of your blood!" Researcher Ake had completely lost his mind. He lunged forward with the half-meter syringe raised.

"May! Run!" Lin Hao grabbed May, who was still standing there in a daze, turned, and sprinted for the door.

"Stop! Let me draw one syringe! Just one!" Ake chased relentlessly after them.

"You're insane! I'm not donating blood! Go find someone else!" Lin Hao raced out of the Research Station's front entrance, pulling May along. The instant he cleared the doorway, he shouted without looking back, "Pikachu, weld the doors shut!"

The Pikachu on his shoulder sighed and waved a little paw. "Pika-chu!" A golden bolt of lightning struck the Research Station's iron doors, melting them shut with its intense heat.

Bang! Researcher Ake crashed headfirst into the iron doors and howled. "Let me out! Science cannot be stopped! That boy's genes are priceless!" His voice carried through the iron doors, gradually fading.

Lin Hao dragged May along for two kilometers without stopping. Only after making sure that lunatic hadn't caught up did he lean against a large tree and gasp for breath. "I'm... I'm dead tired." He wiped away his sweat.

The Runic Eevee in Lin Hao's arms looked perfectly content, still rubbing against his chest. "Vee~"

May stood beside him, her chest heaving. Instead of looking at the extraordinary Eevee, she stared into Lin Hao's eyes with a dark expression. "Lin Hao." Her voice was flat.

"Huh? What's wrong?" Lin Hao played dumb.

"Done running?"

"Yep, all done. That old nutjob was way too creepy. He actually wanted to draw my blood." Lin Hao patted his chest.

May sneered, pulled a red ID booklet from her pocket, and slapped it against the tree trunk in front of Lin Hao. "Since you're done running, let's settle our accounts."

Lin Hao glanced down at the ID, and his heart lurched: [Kanto League · Special Investigator: May]. "Well..." He gave a couple of awkward chuckles. "Officer, I'm a law-abiding citizen."

"A law-abiding citizen?" May stepped closer and stared at him. "Then please explain why this Mythical mutant Pokémon insists on calling you Daddy."
