Standing in the room, Li Wei stared at the corpse before him, his face expressionless, though inwardly he marveled.
After all this time in this world, this was his first encounter with an actual murder case.
An actual murder case without any supernatural elements, presumably.
And this corpse... wasn't unfamiliar, either.
In fact, Li Wei had seen her at the ball just last night.

She lay on the bed in her nightclothes, a gunshot wound in her temple.
Yes, the cause of death was obvious.
"You're finally here, Mr. Li Wei."
The man currently in charge of the scene was a plump old fellow, the North Star's Chief Inspector. It was difficult for the police to perform their duties at sea, so ships naturally had their own positions responsible for such matters. The Chief Inspector handled conflicts between sailors, incidents aboard, and anything else along those lines.
Naturally, now that a murder had occurred, that too fell within his jurisdiction.
But the victim's identity was clearly more than the Chief Inspector could handle.
Even Lestrade would probably have gone weak at the knees.
He had therefore sent someone to fetch Li Wei almost immediately. At least this famous detective had a formidable reputation and was far better equipped to shoulder the responsibility.
"Go and find a few people."
Li Wei glanced over the scene, then turned to the Chief Inspector.
"A photographer, a doctor, and a few sailors to maintain order. Bring a sound recorder, too."
"Of course."
Seeing Li Wei take charge of the scene and start issuing orders, the Chief Inspector obeyed without hesitation. Only then did Li Wei turn to him and begin asking about the circumstances.
The circumstances were actually quite simple. That morning, the
