The sight before them was utterly absurd.
As that booming voice rang out, everything around them began to distort.
"The world is a stage, and every joy, rage, sorrow, and delight is scripted. The audience has arrived, and the curtain has risen!"
The enormous silver-white Doll spread its arms, its bizarre, starfish-like head swaying constantly.
"And now, dear audience! This play has reached its climax! Alice, and all those pursuing Alice, all of you who are actors and audience alike, welcome to the opening of the final act!"
The booming voice rang out, and Li Wei's expression darkened as he listened. Even Katie looked uneasy.
The old man, by contrast, merely tightened his grip on his gun and stared at the statue, remaining calm and composed.
"What a pain... I hate this kind of development."
Li Wei stared at the statue, gritted his teeth, and muttered under his breath. Katie blinked at his complaint.
"Huh? Mr. Li Wei? Is it going to be hard to deal with?"
As far as Katie knew, Li Wei did complain and gripe sometimes, but he rarely seemed this tense-at least, she had never seen him like this.
"Hard to say..."
Li Wei stared at the statue. To be honest, the instant he heard it speak, he understood everything.
This god-whatever its true identity might be-was probably terrifying.
Not because of its personality, but because of its... power.
To it, all of this was a play.
Li Wei could understand that. In fact, practically every case he investigated could be turned into a novel. If someone wrote a novel about this case, its central premise would be "a young lady from a distinguished family mysteriously disappears, and a detective searches for the missing girl."
The question, then, was who had written this story.
And what
