"What should we do?"
Leaving the dining room, Inspector Lestrade approached Li Wei and asked in a low voice. Logically, they should have made an excuse to leave and searched the place. After all, everyone in the hotel was going to attend that séance, so the other rooms would surely be empty.
The problem was that these people looked for all the world as though they were about to summon a boss and unleash an ultimate attack. Even Inspector Lestrade felt a little uneasy.
He had never believed in this sort of thing before. Now... it was harder to say.
"Let's see what they're up to."
Li Wei did not consider this much of an opportunity. He was more worried about this supposed séance. The investigation could wait until everyone was asleep that night.
The house was not going anywhere, after all. If all else failed, Li Wei had already decided to send Inspector Lestrade back to notify the tax office. They would certainly be happy to come and have a nice little chat with these tax evaders. Then they could seal the place off for ten days or a couple of weeks, and search it however they pleased.
They might run, but their property could not. Li Wei refused to believe the house could sprout legs and escape.
But if the séance caused something to happen, that would be trouble.
Li Wei would rather have the tax office shut the house down than have a murder on his hands.
