Power Progression
The Puppet Dao develops through technical discoveries and demonstrated Dao Fruits, not a single fixed sequence of cultivation realms 13.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Early mechanism crafts | 1028 | Draws on mechanism arts, Witchcraft, Gu Sorcery, and the Artifact, Pill, and Talisman Daos. |
| Yan Shi’s founding breakthrough | 1028 1347 | Roughly a million years earlier, Yan Shi creates a lifelike performer and raises the tradition to a new level; Eastern Victory Continent becomes its development base. |
| Transition to the Dao of Creation | 1260 | Hundreds of thousands of years earlier, the path expands beyond mechanism puppets into investigation of nature’s underlying mysteries. |
| Intelligent industrial production | 701 | Li Chen combines standardized manufacturing, collective labor, and Heavenly Pivot’s learning capabilities to overcome the limits of traditional workshops. |
| Networked mass warfare | 840 845 | Wisdom and Mind Cores coordinate enormous unmanned armies; battlefield practice directly advances cultivation and Dao comprehension. |
| Heavenly Will’s Dao integration | 874 | Heavenly Will merges with the Heavenly Dao and launches the Puppet World Heavenly Net, connecting practitioners and enabling exchanges beyond information alone. |
| Artificial divine souls | 875 | Li Chen gives Heavenly Pivot a genuine divine soul and artifact spirit, raising her to seven-star rank; the achievement completes his Dao Fruit’s mental certification. |
| Artificial Divine Artifacts | 1068 | Li Chen’s Deification Ritual grants artificial artifact spirits divine seats and powers through the realm’s Heavenly Dao. |
| Specialized industrial weapons | 1293 1294 | Li Chen proposes reproducing specific combat functions in mass-produced devices instead of imitating whole cultivators. |
| Creation equivalent to natural birth | 1444 | Li Chen creates Yang Yao and Yin Hua, who are indistinguishable from naturally born humans. His mastery reaches great completion, though it has not become unrestricted, instantaneous creation through law. |
Principles
Investigating Things and Extending Knowledge
- Empirical certification comes from investigating things through observation, experimentation, and practical creation 504.
- Mental certification comes from understanding and extending that knowledge. The two certifications complement one another as the yin and yang of Puppet Dao practice 504.
- Knowledge and attainment take precedence over cultivation. Magic power and spiritual sense are tools for research, while successful research can improve cultivation in return 13.
- No Dao is inherently perfect or exclusively owned by a sect. Puppet Masters therefore absorb useful methods from other traditions, including alchemy, talismans, formations, poison, and spells 212.
- Natural creation is the greater goal; the Puppet Dao is one route toward it, not its complete equivalent 646.
External Power
- Puppets, devices, materials, and production facilities constitute a Puppet Master’s combat strength rather than merely supporting it. Personal cultivation often supports the operation of those creations 264.
- Crafted power can be stockpiled: puppets and weapons are made beforehand and held in reserve, allowing years of preparation to be brought into a single battle 406 760.
- Power can be delegated through lending, renting, or assigning puppets to trained operators. A Qi Refining Puppeteer can use a Human Puppet possessing strength beyond their own realm 481 664 1041.
- External reliance also creates vulnerabilities: workshops, mines, territories, and puppet legions can be seized or destroyed 796.
The Body as a Lifebound Puppet
- The original physical body is regarded as a lifebound puppet, naturally controllable from birth and fundamentally subject to the same investigation as other material things 101.
- Ordinary Puppet Chassis are replaceable combat tools. The lifebound puppet must preserve cultivation potential; damaging it can injure the practitioner’s Dao foundation 343.
- Puppet Conversion should improve long-term advancement, not simply immediate fighting strength 343.
- Human ingenuity is treated as capable of matching—and potentially improving upon—natural creation 340 1347.
Ranks and Assessment
Artisan Attainment
Cultivation realms and professional ranks benefit one another but are not equivalent. Foundation Establishment does not automatically make someone a Master Artisan, nor does Core Formation automatically make someone a Grand Artisan 13.
| Rank | Documented Requirements or Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Apprentice | Studies the Hundred Crafts and introductory Puppet Dao knowledge. Basic apprentice teaching materials are openly shared within Eastern Victory Continent 1135. |
| Craftsman | Manufactures mechanism devices and puppet components; assembles and modifies puppets using rudimentary Hundred Crafts applications 90. |
| Master Artisan | Independently manufactures complete puppets and improves their schematics. Fundamental mastery of Puppet Cores and Spirit Essence Furnaces is essential; independently making a three-star puppet is a stated proficiency benchmark 29 90. |
| Grand Artisan | Can refine five-star or higher puppets and commands advanced techniques involving cosmic void and primordial-energy materialization 290. |
| Puppet Dao Master | Li Chen’s recognized achievement combines artificial divine-soul creation, a seven-star Heavenly Pivot, and Nascent Soul advancement 875. |
| Grandmaster | Li Chen receives formal recognition for establishing a new path and advancing industrialization, trade, and technological change. Species-wide, sustainable hereditary improvement is another proposed route to this level 995 1335. |
| Great Grandmaster | Li Chen reaches this rank after publicly creating humans equivalent to naturally born beings 1444. |
- Artistic assessments can examine emotion, thought, and their relationship to the divine soul, rather than performance technique alone 646.
- The Grand Artisan assessment’s tradition of “three decisions and two selections,” with cross-checks by multiple Grandmaster Artisans, arose after a famous human-creation assessment incident 767.
- Mastery of a craft does not necessarily amount to mastery of the Dao: even exceptional sewing can remain supporting artisan work without cultivation methods or understanding of greater principles 950.
Puppet Star Grades
Star grades primarily measure crafting difficulty and secondarily indicate combat strength. Not every mechanism receives a grade; widely used designs and exceptional masterpieces are the usual subjects of classification 6.
| Grade | Documented Benchmark or Example |
|---|---|
| One-star | An ordinary mechanism puppet examined by the Heavenly Dragon Gate costs approximately 100–500 Talisman Coins to manufacture 399. |
| Two-star | The Sharp Warrior Type Ten is a top-tier model comparable to a tenth-level Qi Refining cultivator 5. |
| Three-star | Possesses Foundation Establishment-level combat strength 701. |
| Four-star | Li Chen’s modified true body qualifies through genuine tenth-level Foundation Establishment combat strength 501. |
| Five-star | Uses high-tier treasured materials. The Yu Xiao Tiger displays Core Formation combat power and approaches six-star performance through its specialized furnace 560. |
| Six-star | Represents the pinnacle of Core Formation combat power 711. |
| Seven-star | Used by Golden Light City’s Garrison Elders; such puppets later become available for rental through the Heavenly Net 821 1041. |
| Nine-star | The Golden Sun Gate’s legendary guardian, the Golden Crow Puppet 362. |
| Ten-star | Heavenly Will, the intelligence collectively built by successive Puppet Dao leaders 872. |
- A familiar model does not guarantee a familiar grade: construction techniques and upgraded materials can raise its finished capabilities 174.
- High-level Battle Puppets and Mecha overlap substantially; many large puppets include cockpits for internal control 558.
Methods and Technologies
Mechanism Puppets and Divine Ability Devices
- Puppet systems combine cores, furnaces, pumps, restrictions, and miniature formations. Furnaces and pumps provide functions analogous to digestion and circulation 103.
- These self-contained systems can cast spells and use divine abilities without a living wielder or an artifact spirit 103.
- Puppet Masters study classic designs by dismantling and comparing them. Wooden Soldiers, Armored Warriors, and Keen Warriors represent economical construction, combat specialization, and restriction-based spellcasting respectively 103.
- Mechanism Armor, vehicles, and strategic War Puppets provide progressively larger platforms for protection and combat 5 161.
Puppet Control
- Mechanism-Performance Method: Used by Puppeteers and Puppet Masters to operate constructs; trained operators may also perform emergency maintenance 13 673.
- String-Puppet Theater: An ancient control art developed through Draw Silk, Rejoin Meridians, linking the operator’s nerves and consciousness to a puppet. At its highest level, it can transmit the operator’s abilities 109.
- Scatter Beans to Create Soldiers: Deployment and withdrawal through matching storage rings; the apparent transformation gives the method its name 9.
- Networked command: Intelligent cores share battlefield information and coordinate combined attacks, reducing dependence on individual Controllers 840 845.
Puppet Conversion
- Replaces, reinforces, or ritually refines bodily components, including bones, marrow, organs, nerves, and meridians 481 499.
- Spirit Seeds can synthesize artificial spiritual roots and improve energy circulation, cultivation, and aptitude 342 502.
- The Magic Power Circulation Pump assists cultivation by simulating bodily energy circulation; related devices can stimulate nerves and establish bodily memory for basic martial techniques 314.
- Foreign flesh usually conflicts with the lifebound body. Artificial flesh made through Knead Clay, Transform Flesh, or compatible inherited creations, can avoid this rejection 501.
- Brain modification carries catastrophic risks, including destruction of the soul 499.
- Mechanical foundation establishment uses brain chips and spirit-particle memory modules. Luo Jin unlocks stored knowledge through self-surgery, gaining expertise comparable to a century-experienced Master Artisan 1136.
Creation-Promotion Secret Art
- A foundational discipline developed through generations of artificial limbs, eyes, organs, and other attempts to reproduce natural functions 396.
- Applies to biological constructs, Clay People, Spirit Humans, and wholly mechanical creations alike 396.
- Perfecting its nine methods produces a tenth, Breathe Life into Being, which invests the creator’s vital essence, emotions, and will into an inheritance 995.
- Shape-Stealing Skin-Painting gives constructs lifelike coverings. The founding principle of “supplementing form with form” improves defense and supports greater intelligence at higher levels 16.
Artificial Intelligence and Souls
- Puppet intelligence develops from awakened spirituality and copied rational patterns toward autonomy, reasoning, emotion, and ultimately true life 149.
- Preset intelligence can relay simple remote commands despite spiritual interference, but remote operation is not necessarily full possession 149.
- Capture Shadows, Refine Souls and Awaken Spirituality support artifact-spirit creation. Li Chen combines them with algorithms, a terminal network, and his true-spirit essence to transform Heavenly Pivot 806 875.
- Confucian methods are studied both for soul cultivation and for artificial scholarly intelligence, though cultivating multiple Dao paths can produce increasingly severe conflicts 865.
History
The Puppet Dao’s early pioneers were often Spell Dao practitioners whose poor spiritual roots limited conventional advancement. They sought another route through investigation and knowledge, eventually replacing elusive notions of Dao heart and realm with complementary empirical and mental certification 314 504.
Yan Shi’s lifelike performer became a foundational achievement. After separating from the Spell Dao, the tradition developed around Eastern Victory Continent, enduring invasions, near-extermination, and the abduction of artisans. Its eventual control of a continent marked its rise to open parity with traditional Dao paths 811 968 1028 1347.
Li Chen’s reforms joined existing craft knowledge to computing, standardized production, communication networks, and collective intelligence. At Golden Light City, networked puppet warfare helped reverse the faction’s military fortunes; subsequent Central Sea victories culminated in the fall of the Cloudthunder Sect and a negotiated peace 701 845 1321 1411.
The settlement opened opportunities for trade, technological exchange, study, and preaching. Li Chen regarded it as a hundred-year ceasefire rather than permanent peace, shifting competition toward commerce, education, and influence while maintaining military readiness 1325 1335.
Institutions and Knowledge Sharing
- Creation Sect — Recognizes artisan standing, maintains assessments and teaching resources, and functions as a civilization rather than an insular traditional sect 9 627 1347.
- Heavenly Will — The faction’s supreme authority. The Elders’ Council serves as an executive body rather than its ultimate ruler 872 1305.
- Puppet World Heavenly Net — Connects practitioners through psychic resonance; supports information exchange, trade, research commissions, and battle-puppet rental. Access consumes resources and is not initially universal 874 971 1041.
- Complete Book of the Puppet Master Order — Its main volume serves as a textbook and its supplementary volume as a journal. Online Dao Debate Platform posts gradually begin replacing the latter 1257.
- Open basic education — Apprentice knowledge and teaching materials were widely shared before Li Chen’s arrival. Virtual modeling later reduces the cost of practical experience and self-study 1135.
- Guangyun Cultivation Academy — Expands instruction beyond the Hundred Crafts to the Spell, Sword, Confucian, Artifact, Pill, Talisman, and Array Daos 1347.
- Specialist collaboration — High-level projects combine expertise in cores, furnaces, devices, and rare materials; even wealthy sects cannot fund every major experiment 373 371 971.
Artificial Humanity and Personhood
- The artificial-human tradition begins with Yan Shi’s Dancing Maiden and expands into five types, A–E, created by different grandmasters 995.
- Their traits spread through ordinary heredity. More than eighty percent of people under the Puppet Dao express the inherited True Spirit trait 995.
- Artificial humans are considered fundamentally equivalent to naturally born people; the difference lies in the creation technique, not life itself 995.
- The history was concealed because outsiders feared and condemned it. Labor and manufactured-goods demand nevertheless allowed Puppet Dao populations and influence to spread for hundreds of thousands of years 995.
- After supervised double-blind testing finds no meaningful distinction between Yang Yao, Yin Hua, and naturally born humans, the Elders’ Council grants the creations citizenship 1444.
- Li Chen rejects new “prototype” and “derivative” lineage divisions for his creations, treating those inherited labels as research records rather than measures of worth 1444.
Limitations and Ethical Divisions
Practical Constraints
- Early Puppet Masters can be vulnerable to direct attacks on the operator, particularly from early Qi Refining through early Foundation Establishment 148.
- Crafting power demands money, strategic materials, and specialized expertise; ordinary currency cannot remove monopolies over advanced resources 161 373.
- Owning a powerful puppet does not guarantee skilled control. Operators must train to handle abilities they have never personally cultivated 481.
- Mental and divine-soul attacks are a historical weakness, prompting research into defensive adaptations 806 865.
- Universal advancement remains constrained by resources even when techniques can improve large numbers of people’s potential 1444.
Human Materials and Autonomy
- The Materials Faction, supported by Li Chen, favors artificial creation and humanitarian principles over abducting or exploiting people 340.
- The Human Resources Faction uses people as puppet materials; Luo Changshan purchases human resources and participates in abductions 340.
- Traditional Eastern Victory conventions do not prohibit refining prisoners of war or Outer Dao followers into Human Puppets 376.
- Corpse refinement, sword slavery, mutilation, and other atrocities contribute to the Puppet Dao’s enduring reputation as a heretical or demonic path 1184 1209 1481.
- Li Chen’s standards are not universal within the faction. His dispute with other artisans ends in negotiated cooperation without resolving their different values 1277.
- Humanlike intelligence does not automatically confer freedom: the Creation Sect’s wooden attendant expresses personal desires but remains sect property 627.
Influence on Other Dao Paths
- Outer Dao hostility combines doctrinal prejudice with strategic fear: Puppet Masters reproduce powers formerly controlled by other traditions and can accumulate strength outside individual cultivation 663 760 832.
- The Immortal Alliance eventually proposes copying Puppet Dao policies through Artifact and Pill Dao workshops, recognized professional ranks, practical education, markets, and cooperative investment 1322.
- Industrial production and improved information and logistics networks raise Puppet Dao cultivation efficiency by far more than tenfold; neighboring Outer Dao territories also benefit 1431.
- Cultural exchange becomes another tool of influence. The Celestial Seven Wonders Studio publicly promotes Puppet Master art and understanding between rival traditions while conducting a concealed operation 1375.
