They were from some of the sects Chu Jingtang had dragged into the affair but which had yet to show themselves. Shi Chun had summoned them.

Mai Zhanchang pretended to invite them somewhere to get better acquainted, but the people from the three sects said they had business to attend to and could not stay. They were frank about what they were going to do, too: serve as scouts for the forces here.

There was nothing they could not disclose. Shi Chun had told them to answer honestly if anyone asked.

Mai Zhanchang could only express his regret and suggest they meet another time. He courteously saw the group off, then suddenly looked back and spotted someone leaving on Wind Scales. It seemed to be Wang Sheng. Where was he off to now...?
